Just as good as the first episode.
Love the new way to Morph. I Like it very well done. Love the look of it. Loved the very small off to the side cross over of Operation Overdrive. Like evil HQ. Very cool. |
This is making more hopeful for the franchise than Beast Morphers did! The team didn't seem to have any pretense in mind when trying to warn people about Sporix. I also like the idea of a "Ranger Hotline".
The Easter Eggs continue. The Android came in a box from "Hartford Robotics", which is evocative of Overdrive. "Mr. Lynn" is a straightforward reference to Judd Lynn. The J-Borg felt like a play on both J-Pop and Beet J. Stag from Go-Busters. The first Boost Key is a fart joke, but it's not a heavy-handed fart joke. Kureon is now the "Mighty Mucus", which is more in the vein of a sidekick and comic relief character. Love the idea of such a retro hideout for Void Knight called "Area 62", which is such a cheap play on the obvious, but it kind of works despite the goofiness. Felt like the battle between Shockhorn and the T-Rex Champion Zord was sped-up from the Ryusoulger version. The cockpit weapon this time is the "Megafury Saber", which is remarkably generic and rather fun despite the superfluous ChromeFury Saber being present alongside it. Still not clear on Void Knight's plan, but a supercharged Sporix which can apparently survive the demise of a monster isn't enough. Like I said, I'm hopeful for the future right now. Are you? |
Really enjoying these episodes. I'm starting to see how they integrate the Ryusoulger footage. Glad to see Kreon/aka Mucus still being the lil funny monster kid. Hope he turns good in the future like Ryusoulger.

I like how adorably excited Mucus is about everything. She seems like the kind of villain who could be redeemed later since she seems to be just as indestructible as Kleon was. Not sure what her role is though besides obvious comic relief since she's just another Sporix but I look forward to seeing her dynamic with Wiserue's counterpart and just how that character is even going to show up, considering his design has more in common with the Hengemen than the Sporix. The comedic tone of this show generally continues to be classy. It even makes fun of itself like with the Morphin' practice which is usually something people just automatically know how to do. The only thing that really seems to be a little tacked on is the Jean and J-Borg duo but they're not so much actively annoying or anything, more like just unnecessary. Maybe that will change though. There's already so much personality in the first 3's interactions than there was in most of Beast Morphers. I don't want to be too hard on BM though since I genuinely liked the kind of casual best buds friendship between Devon and Ravi and how that was tested by Fury Mode. But this here is something else. Dino Fury is just putting so much focus on these character interactions and I really appreciate how actively the show is trying and definitely succeeding to make me care about them. |
Zayto looks back, "Smooth" LOL!

You know, credit where credit is due, I said that the theme song lacked identity, but that kinda aggressive electronic-y sound actually is a consistent and unique motif throughout for the Rangers. The way PR has been scored for the past decade has always been one of my bigger issues with it (the audio in general is, really), so the apparent total absence of Noam Kaniel in favor of someone (I believe?) totally new is much appreciated.
|
Noam Kaniel is out?!? Oh thank god! I never thought I would live to see this day. Not to disperage the guy or anything but having the exact same composer for over a decade is just... tiring to me. Hopefully Hasbro dosen't stick with the new guy another decade to come lol.

Someone was a fan of God of War when designing that cockpit sword.
|
At least in terms of the theme song I'm not the biggest fan unfortunately, while I'm glad it's not quite back to the Samurai/Megaforce days of just the MMPR theme again for whatever reason it's just not grabbing me. What I DO like and is better than Ryusoulger is the morphing sequence, although that was admittedly not that terrible on this occasion I can say yes, I do definitely prefer the PR version of that transformation! I couldn't get too excited about the Operation Overdrive reference lol but I suppose my initial impressions are that it may be Turbo or possibly Wild Force level bad so far as opposed to full-on awful, to give a backhanded compliment!
