SH Figuarts & D-Arts (Non-Toku) Combined Discussion
Discussion for all Non-Tokusatsu related SH Figuarts should go here. Including SHF's such as:
DBZ Tiger & Bunny One Piece Pretty Cure Accel World Daft Punk Mario Etc. EDIT 2/6/14: Bandai has recently begun folding characters from it's D-Arts line into SH Figuarts. This thread will now be good for such releases including Lucario, Imperialdramon, etc. and will retroactively cover the D-Arts line as well. |
From a strictly toyetic POV, the One Piece figuarts were terrible and I hope that it is never revisited. The proportions of the One Piece characters do not lend themselves well to a fully poseable line like Figuarts.

I'm hoping Tamashii makes SH Figuarts Ronin Warriors with armor molded on, and swappable heads. Have the unarmored figures as TWE's. I have the Armor Plus Rekka and Inferno Ryo's but find the armor too be finnicky. SH Figuarts Tekkaman Blade, and GUYVER would be incredibly cool too. Also YuYu Hakusho! |

I actually hope for the really cool complimentary stuff like a Figuarts Koji Kabuto (from Mazinger Z/Mazinkaiser) or a Duke Freed (from Grendizer) since Bandai does own the rights to make the Bots in their Soul of Chogokin line. There are also quite a few characters from the Tatsunoko Productions stuff I'd like to see like Casshern, Tekkaman like you mention and maybe some of the Gatchaman dudes. |

Complimentary characters would definitely be cool. GATCHAMAN Figuarts are a must! Need Joe! Barely watched that series but Joe is bad ass. Oother cool characters for SH Figuarts Vampire Hunter D 8 Man Ultimate Muscle |

I will NEVER touch those stupid statues. I want some poseable figures for One Piece characters and I have faith it can totally work. |
if they ever made a Guyver Figuart...oh my lord I would be all over that..

I'm not sure how licenses work in Japan but its always possible to see characters from an anime appearing in 2 different toylines. During the height of the Evangelion RE: movie craze I remember seeing Rei, Asuka, and Mari being made into Figmas and Revoltechs.
Not sure how that would affect certain characters. For example, I really think Rurouni Kenshin characters would look great in fully poseable Figuarts form especially before the Live-Action movie hits and hopefully rekindles a craze in the old property. But right now the only fully poseable RK figure is the atrocious looking Revoltech Kenshin. Yet, we see Bandai releasing a Figuarts Zero version. So, yeah, I am putting it out there: Rurouni Kenshin Figuarts. C'mon Bandai. |
I know no one is on board with me, but I want a YuGiOh Figuart, specifically, the Pharoah/Yami Yugi.
He was so gleefully insane in the manga I couldn't help but love him (Group of seniors steal your spot at school fair? Send their group leader to the hospital and take it back!), and I would love to have a Figuart of him stalking my Riders :lol Other figures I would like to see: Karas Casshern. More Karas. Skullomania Viewtiful Joe (And Alastor) Karas (Seriously). |

If I had the money, I would get the OP Zeros, but I don't, so I am going to stick with the Stylings. Plus, I have a bunch of the Stylings already, so I might as well keep going.
As for Yu-Gi-Oh!, I wouldn't mind Figuarts of Yami Malik, Pharoah Atem, Priest Seto, and Thief Bakura. |

RE: license- it's usually by scale/series |
Alright, this may be the most stupid question asked in this thread ever, but you guys will at least know the answer:
How does Bandai's toyline coincide with Bandai's rights with their Namco/Bandai games? I'm just wondering, because it'd be awesome to finally get nice figures of Tekken characters. |
Quote:
I'd say yes but they seemed to have licensed it out to Square Enix's Play Arts Kai:confused: Interestingly enough we see Capcom and SNK characters showing up in their D-Arts line. |

Anyone else find it weird that Bandai would make a line dedicated exclusively to just video game characters/robots/robots with metal/giant superheroes/daikaiju, but anime characters, who belong to one of the more well known genre/medium/don't wanna open that bag of worms, have to share a toyline with normal sized spandex wearing superheroes?

D-Arts are for figures that represent digital or robotic characters (Like Omegamon or Metabee) or video game characters (That's pretty much the only explanation for I can think of for Terry Bogard being in the D-Arts line). Figuarts is for everyone else. It's not specifying anything, so that branding can be used for a variety of characters. Henshin heroes being the most populous, is all :P As for the Tekken thing, does Bandai have full control over something produced by Namco Bandai? |
The only non-toku figuart I have is Takuto Tsunashi from Star Driver

RE: Tekken - I don't think Bandai has full control because Namco Bandai is a different division. It's like Yamato's 1/60 Macross Plus line, though the Macross Zero OVA was released by Bandai Visual, the 1/60 toy license was obtained exclusively by Yamato. Licenses do expire over time. Now if a toy company sponsors a visual or game production, they may have 1st dibs over the license. With regards to Tekken in D Arts, I think what Tamashii is slowly doing is going for not only a comprehensive SNK roster, but one for not only Capcom VS SNK, but also Street Fighter X Tekken. Last November Tamashii hinted at not only KOF but Samurai Showdown. Characters to crossover into CVS include Haomaru and Nakororu. |

I think the licenses do vary in a degree of what products can be produced from a property. So right now we see Square Enix displaying two grey prototypes of Kazuya Mishima and Jun Kazama at SDCC. Yet on the same show we see Kotobukiya showcasing Tekken girls for their Shunya Yamashita Bishoujo line of which I am unashamed to admit I have picked up Christie and am eagerly awaiting J.C./Julia Chang. Its kind of like what Lucas does with Star Wars I guess. Hasbro has all rights to create toys of the 3-3/4 inch scale, Sideshow has rights to release 12-inch figures+ Statues, Kotobukiya has rights to release Vinyl kits on smaller scale staction figures. Now maybe its a word of contract thing. i.e. the contract states that the toy company in question is able to release Street Fighter figures based off Street Fighter 4 designs. This leaves the license-holder more freedom to offer rights to other companies to do Street Fighter 2 figures or Street Fighter Alpha...etc etc. |
So are all the poseable Figuarts in scale with each other? I want to refrain from collecting if they aren't at least rough scale.
I noticed the new DBZ figures coming out, and the scale Nappa/Vegeta got me interested in this line. |

Ok, I have been very negative, so now onto the positives. Like I said, it is very show accurate, all the details are there. Very clean, crisp paint apps. I like the white they used for his coat, it's like a shiny pearlescent white-ish color, think SHF Fourze, but a little shinier. I also really like his boots. They are a really shiny, glossy black, I can't tell of it's paint, or if that's the color that the plastic is molded in. His articulation is great as well, as is to be expected from a Figuart. His accessory count is really good. He comes with Star Sword holding hands, Ginga Bishounen pose/ Galatic Tau Beam hands, relaxed hands, fists, and a Kiraboshi salute hand...for some reason. He also has 3 swap out faces, a smirking face, an open mouth happy face, and a yelling angry face, all of them look really good, the sculpting is great on those. Now onto his toothpi- I mean his Star Swords, there's not much to say since they're very simple, he holds them very well, though on my first one Emeraude was a little bent, since they are very thin at the tip. Also the sheathed sword is nice, but I wish that it came with an unsheathed version, it's ok though. Also, he comes with his own custom Tamashii stage, it doesn't say anything, it's clear red, and it's in the shape of a star, so they didn't have to include that, but I'm glad they did In closing, while it's a good figure, I would only recommend it to fans of Star Driver, and I wouldn't recommend paying more for it than I did, which was $27 shipped from HLJ. For you specifically, ZeorangerV, I would say get it at some point to go with Tauburn, but don't go out of your way to get one, since he's very easy to find for a good price, I hope my "review" helped you in some way |
Cheers for the review! Star Driver is one of my favourite animes so I'll definitely pick him up when I have spare cash, but I'll make sure not to overspend on him then :)
|
I have Vegeta, and Domon Kasshu from G-Gundam.
Domon was actually my first ever SHF, but I keep forgetting I own the guy. :lol |

Been looking through the size of some of the figures in online shopping sites. Cure Black is 13in tall, while Akiba Blue is 15in. Seems to scale to me, since Cure Black is a few years younger. |
i keep hearing how figma would be better, but i really want to see sailor moon figuarts. especially princess serenity and tuxedo mask.

What about Gundam characters. God Gundam lends itself incredably well to Figuarts. Master Asia, Domon, Rain. Asia could even come with Fuunsaki. Also would love some Digimon, but they're all D-Arts and somehow I doubt I'm ever getting a Gargomon. ... I am sad. Naruto would be great figuarts. Naruto can come with parts to do the Rasengan, and Sasuke can come with Chikori effect parts. That epic scene needs on my shelf! Spider-Man too. Only because I want a Figuarts treatment of Venom and Symbiote Spider-Man. |

Naruto would work well enough, but if they did make Naruto Figuarts, it would most likely be the Shippuden versions. I would love to see Tatsunoko Figuarts. I know Figma covered Tekkaman Blade, but characters like Casshern, Karas, or Gatchaman would lend themselves to Figuarts quite well. |
