Kamen Rider Ex-Aid LVUR18 Maximum Gamer & Muteki Gamer Set

Hyper Dai Henshin!
With the conclusion of Kamen Rider Ex-Aid, we thought it was only necessary (and way overdo) to show off some of the figures from the Level Up Rider line of figures, or LVUR. These were the mainline toys for the Kamen Rider Ex-Aid show and feature all of the main Kamen Rider characters as well as nearly all of their various forms and power-ups. Today, we look at the final release of the line - LVUR18 Maximum Gamer and Hyper Muteki Gamer set. The Figures - Maximum Gamer There's not much to write home about here. This is primarily a shell with zero articulation (the arms attach via a peg and can swing up and down). Hyper Muteki can fit inside and the arms from Maximum Gamer can attach to his arms giving you a different range of motion (forward and backwards as opposed to just swinging side to side), but even then Muteki ends up hanging out a bit on the back because you'll snap off the hinge that has Ex-Aid's face if you try to push him in any further. The paint application is actually pretty good considering it's a mass release budget figure, and as usual the Game Driver is not painted, only molded in different color plastic. The Figures - Hyper Muteki Gamer This is where the release shines. Hyper Muteki Gamer has the standard 17 points of articulation that you get with the budget line (head, arms, bicep, elbow, wrist, legs, thighs, knees, ankles), however the dreadlocks type hair causes the head articulation to be very, very limited. You can move the dreadlocks a bit to make for more articulation but I was afraid that I'd end up snapping one off if I wasn't careful. The paint apps on Hyper Muteki are great. The dull yellow gives the impression of a gold color, and there's even some gold chrome/gold vacuum paint on his visor, chest plate, and removable gauntlets. The gauntlets come off to allow you to "wear" the Maximum Gamer arms while he's in the Maximum Gamer shell. They don't fit too snuggly and I'm afraid that over time they will begin to become rather loose and not want to stay in at al. The Accessories Sadly, this release doesn't come with any accessories. They instead refer you to previous releases for weapons, etc. I didn't have the Mighty Bros LVUR figure handy with me, so I wasn't able to show off the sword with Hyper Muteki, but I will do so when I get around to doing a gallery of those two releases. Overall While I enjoy the paint applications on Hyper Muteki and Maximum Gamer, at the end of the day there's nothing to really set this figure apart from the other releases in the line. I'm sure when the S.H. Figuarts version eventually releases (and is revealed), it will blow this out of the water very easily. I'd give this set a 3/5 total, and recommend purchasing only if you're a huge fan of the series, are completing the toy line, or if it's at a considerable discount (original retail was around $50). I'm starting to lose hope about getting a Figuarts Maximum Mighty X. It's been so long since we've heard any news about it, and Perfect Knockout, which debuted after Maximum Mighty, was already announced. Seems to me like they might skip it. Shame, I really liked that form, and the figuarts looked amazing.
This figure looks great. I want to get it as even with the secondary market mark-up it'll likely be cheaper than the figuart...and easier to find
Go gold gamer!
I can never say anything bad of Maximum Mighty X. It is my special child who I love dearly. Shame Muteki doesn't work well without golden sparkles everywhere
If only maximum was more than a shell
While this guy is inevitably going to be ignored by many for the figuarts release, if it ever comes, it doesn't look too bad by itself.
If only maximum was a figure instead of a literal empty shell, at least Muteki looks nice.
Perhaps the single thing that bugs me most about LVUR is the "you're only ever planning to display your figure facing straight forward, right?" assumption on the level 1, the Gamers, and Maximum Mighty.
Muketi looks terrific (by the standards of Rider retail figures.) Maximum Mighty seems like it'd be a fun figure... until you get to the back. I look back at OOO and boggle over Rider retail figures becoming less friendly to action poses over time. Poor Ex-Aid. Poor Build. |
I'm always wary of Bandai Japan "gold" since I got the Go-On Gold Ranger Key with my Machalcon and it looked like burnt caramel.

Hyper Muteki is one of those suit designs that looks impossible, but when it's actually used, it totally rocks.
1 of the 2 or 3 LVUR figures I havent been able to get a hold of. Looks okay, but not my favorite power up mode by any rider standard :/

Hey this is my obligatory comment to enter the giveaway

I actually like Maximum Gamer the most, though they cheap him out on the backside. I'm just not a fan of Hyper Muteki Gamer. The hair totally reminds me of Predator dreadlocks.
Cool looking figures! I better give exaid another shot.
I liked how Maximum was used like the Lv1 gamer modes were used, and shoulder articulation was much more than I expected. Not bad for Muteki either!
Hyper Muteki nice

Can you say Guy Shishioh from GGG?
Still love it! |
I could never really get over the gold braids on Hyper Muteki. The figure and suit themselves are nice though.
What weird designs...
The gold plating highlights are nice, even if it does make the rest of the Hyper Muteki figure look a little dull. As for Maximum Gamer, as a toy it's incredibly disappointing only being half a shell, but it almost works for me as the giant armor upgrade it's emulating. Still not a fan of the big ol' face in the front though. |
Ah, still not a huge fan of the Ex-Aid designs. Looking at this gallery really reinforces the fact that I only want Figuarts, too. I understand it's supposed to be "standard"-type quality, but it's hard to swallow after seeing so many beautiful Figuarts. I really feel like this guy would be a prime candidate for the Figuarts treatment, though. It's really fierce, but those huge goggle eyes just don't do it for me.
Action poses seem a thing of past. At least the gold painting seems good.
The big guy has got to be one of the goofiest things out of Ex-Aid but it kinda works.
Hyper Muteki is an..interesting design. It's definitely better than Ghost's final forms were at least. |
The main figure is very nice.
The shell is a shell. |
For a gimmick figure, it's decent enough. Would have preferred an actual posable Maximum Gamer, though.
Ah Hyper Muteki, truly a faithful Super Mode for a video game, also has a rocking tune when it comes to the jingle. But it's also scary whenever we get to the SH Figuarts because how would they work with the hair you know? It definitely looks nice but sad because they included the shell that they couldn't include any weapons.
It's a shame that Maximum Mighty X is just a shell but considering the way the Level 1's and 10 got treated I had a feeling it would be the same because of how the suit was built. Not to mention the transformation sequence all but sealed that deal with it being a shell. |
Both these forms look so freaking ridiculous, and I love it. But I will echo everyone else, I just wish Maximum wasn't a shell
It's beautiful too bad it's like $80 on Amazon
UGH, such another disappointment in this line. It's sad that there are some things that can't be helped such as the articulation and try to get as screen accurate as possible with plastic. But that shell of Maximum is just... why. I mean I know why, but it's just sad.
too much gold too gaudy too silly can't take it
I like this one !!
The design of this is just not for me. The colours are all over the place and the face is just... horrid.
Not a fan of Maximum Gamer design, and the fact the it's just a shell proves how worthless it is.
Boo to shells with zero articulation. That is all.
This is the design that made me kind of dislike the line, but I like the marbled gold plastic a lot.
One of the last 3 I need for my set. Absolutely in love with this design and can't wait to have him up with my Zombie gamer so I can have the pinnacle of light and dark from Ex Aid.
Muteki looks pretty decent for a retail figure. Maximum Mighty X is a huge disappointment, especially after seeing that incredible figuarts of him. I guess you get a lot of stuff for you money with these, but neither of them are anything special. My biggest complaint here is that you can't really customize the figures. With Ex-Aid, Brave, Snipe, etc. you can buy the armor upgrades and attach them, which makes me prefer the LVUR releases to the figuarts. But that's not the case here, so I think i'd rather just splurge and buy the figuarts if I wanted them at all. Then again, I'm usually a cheap-o, so maybe not.
I don't think I'll get over how disappointing the Maximum Mighty X is though... |
