A good episode, character development, plot moving forward and an organic (heh) way of introducing new powers with new foe types.

We finally have our first clear look at Horobi's suit:

good episode. Very plot-centric which will require subtitles to be sure what have been said.
plot episode to the point the comedy was almost entirely dropped. Except for the scene at the end. Even the scene with the vice president was a serious one and there was no joke about "you should quit" or "I'll take your place" or anything. not much else to say. The plot is moving fast. Oh yeah we had a map of the current city (or a former map of Daybreak I don't remember) showing all the companies existing and we saw the Zaia one. |

And damn Fuwa really loves trying to force his way through with the Progrise keys. |
Another great episode, but with some low points. The pacing was too fast imo and I didn't like how conveniently everything came together. Plus Aruto revealing that he is Zero-One already makes the secret identity thing seem completely pointless.
Other than that, loved it. The mystery behind Daybreak Town is intriguing and we learn a little more about what really went down there. Good world-building. Fuwa gets some focus and Vulcan Punching Kong's fight scene was awesome. Ditto for Flying Falcon, the CG was actually pretty decent. Feel bad for the kid but at least he got resolution. Felt even more bad for Anna, who defied Metsuboujinrai to fulfill her original programming, but got completely obliterated so there is no way to restore her. The early Horobi tease was awesome. Suit looks great. Can't wait to see more of him. The season so far seems to be really well planned. Tons of foreshadowing right off of the bat and I bet we'll be seeing lots of payoff as the show progresses. Also can we talk about how cool the monsters look this season? The Bat Magear looked fantastic. And also the shot of Flaming Tiger in the preview looks beautiful. |

They made it a cliffhanger last week as if it was important and could be used by AIMS to their advantage somehow, and next ep it becomes pointless. |

Last episode he just transforms out in the open like five feet away from where Yua was fighting. Not that the show addresses that, but still. For as short a period where it lasted the show didn't really go to great lengths to have him cover his tracks. The focus of that last scene wasn't really about unveiling his identity either, but more about Yua, the fact that she was meeting with a mysterious person, and the stuff about the Progrise Keys and the ark, the identity stuff doesn't really take away from that at all. I'm biased because I thought introducing the secret identity element was a bad move to begin with, but I don't mind getting rid of it so quickly at all. Even if the fact that he hid his identity for like two episodes is kinda pointless for the overall narrative, maybe they'll squeeze some relevance out of the whole thing by revealing some important reason Izu wanted him to do it, or something like that. At the very least, I think the way they did it is fine, tying it into the episode's story and Aruto not wanting to keep any secrets. |
Only Izu has a vested interest in Aruto hiding his identity. I don't think the VP is even aware of what the Driver does.

But weirdly, VP seems to be omitting any mention of the driver itself so far. Then again this could be a runaway speculation to nowhere. |
I just Valkyrie finds out later and the three can work together.

Ok, I have one big problem with this episode, where the hell did that HumaGear come from that conveniently recorded the entire conversation? I thought all of them went berserk, so why would there be one standing right behind the guy and not do a damn thing? And if it was turned off why would it be recording? This reaks of plot convenience, especially with how they find it, undamaged, after 12 years just when the time calls for it.
I liked the episode, but that was bull. |
Quote:
i mean, the huma gear got the data from the memory card, scattered inside the broken lab or something like that, after the explosion. that recorded data is inside the memory, she just tried to read it then went berserk from what i understand, Huma gear can also fight the berserk state, but in exchange, her data will get corrupted and gone forever. The lights from her headgear went off immediately after the recorded footage ended. you mean that bat magear didnt attack them ? did you see Zero one knocked him away before he focused on recording , thats why when Fuwa used special attack, you see the bat guy just trying to stand up then got hit by attack. |
Quote:
But humagears were rampaging during that time, but that's precisely why the guy want to cause the explosion (from my understanding. no subs yet). If said humagear was behind the guy causing the explosion, he should have at least tried to attack him at some point. That's no big deal, only a little detail, and it can still be explained in the future, some previous KR shows had little things like this before. |

Ah okay, my bad. i thought he meant the bat guy didnt attack them.
anyways, i feel like Horobi is huma-gear. he is probably the first Rider in this story, we saw him in the recording that took event from 12 years ago. what if, Horobi is similar with Izu, i mean Izu can give order to Satellite BS-ZA ( is that the name ? ) like printing new PK , while for Horobi is the "Arc" or the one that submerged in water along with the ruins of daybreak town. Quote:
after watching sub version, the guy said "Go..." he asked a huma gear to go and abandon him but to whom? based on what i have seen so far, i believe the ones who went rampaging , they are the ape-huma gears, cause in that day, Aruto's Father is a huma gear as well, but not affected by malfunction or whatever is it. like the ones we have seen in Fuwa's memories |

I guess it's going to be redundant to keep mentioning how good this show is every week, so I'll just say some specific thoughts:
- I like that they explore the Plot through the lens of a guest character who gets his own little emotional arc. Seeing all this backstory could've been a very dry thing, but the way they did it here keeps the story feeling human. - Aruto is really coming together as a character very quickly. The difference in how he treats HumaGears compared to everyone else comes off strongly (he genuinely talks to them like any other person), and I like how proactive we're seeing him be. Revealing that he's Zero-One here may or not prove questionable though. I have faith in the way Yuuya Takahashi writes things that I believe it's entirely possible the fact that Aruto's identity was supposed to be secret will still be a relevant thing at some point, which would make the pacing of this development make a lot more sense in retrospect. This kind of thing happened in Ex-Aid all the time, so I'm honestly fairly confident there's more going on here. - I'm still expecting it to start dropping off pretty soon, but I'm honestly impressed the action is still this flashy by the fourth episode. |
The reveal of his secret identity is basically just another step of him becoming CEO and taking responsibilities publicly to cleanse the image of HIDEN. Also he realizes throughout this episode that hiding secrets are not good sometimes.
Also Anna is completely...perished? Along with that memory card? |
Good episode. I'm glad the secret identity thing is out of the way and Aruto can start interacting with the AIMS agents without having to hide the fact that he's Zero One. I'm looking forward to seeing how they start working together.
We got a lot of good lore dump this week about what happened with the submerged city. I thought some of the pacing on the kid's story was a little rushed in places, but that's hard to avoid when you only have 24 minutes to work with. I did like seeing Aruto take charge with the VP, though. For a character that has an obvious and specific shtick, I really appreciate that he can put it aside and focus on being serious and taking charge when he has to. |
Four episodes in and I am very impressed by the pacing. It's moving like . . I dunno, Kamen Rider Gaim?
The larger arc of Daybreak town had a major reveal but they also managed to handle smaller arcs, such as the self-contained story of Go and his dad, the dynamic between Aruto and Fuzukoe, and Aruto's "secret identity" being revealed, at least to Fuwa. I am curious if they'll have Fuwa keep the secret - i don't want the public to know Aruto is a kamen rider yet. I think there's more ground to cover there if he has to maintain the dual roles The aerial battle got a little wonky, as much of it seemed like a blurr, and it was very short; however, the suit designs are still the top tier for me. I know the colors of the Zero-one upgrades class, but . . . hell, its base color is Neon Green so we aren't going for subtle |
After watching with subs
I wonder if the kid and his father will have relevance again later. I'm saying this because of the reaction of the kid when he sees Zero-one. Maybe im looking too much into it and it's just a "wow it's a hero it's cool/i'm surprised" reaction, but i don't know, I felt like it meant something like "Hey I've seen this before" the way it was filmed. Build also did this at some point with the woman running the boat between Hokuto and Touto in the first episodes and then return for minor relevance about Sento's father. |
Liked the episode. And as everyone is saying the plot is steadily moving forward. I don't mind the pace of the show at the moment. I feel its actually good.
Maybe I'm in the minority but I actually wanted the hidden identity issue to have lasted a bit longer. Would have created a bit more tension between Aruto and A.I.M.S. But then again I don't think Aruto wants that. |

I mean, they cannot possibly keep up this level of action for 40 episodes. If they do, then I'm going to be disappointed for the rest of the Reiwa era for every predecessor. The in-flight fight, Cheetah/Wolf battle, all were just spectacular. The choreography on this series for every fight is definitely amped up. But I really love that there is a cohesive plot to follow against, with Aruto not being a complete weenie about what needs to be done. The characterization of even the side story players has something that fits. Just so much enjoyment for the last month. |
I'm liking the show very much, though I don't think he's very cool when he's not The Rider,.. his campy-goofiness is a bit over the top. He really reminds me of AkibaRed a bit too much. Everything is a clownish overreaction to things with the camera zooming in on him making a silly face. It's too much.
And I don't think I've ever hated a Rider theme-song as much as I hate this RealXEyes or whatever it's called. From the ZeroOneZeroOneZeroOne etc. chanting at the beginning to the actual song itself I really think it's awful. But I like all the other characters, and the suit designs and fight scenes, and the whole Humagear concept I really like. |
This was another great episode. Although while it's in character and something he'd do, Aruto revealing his identity to Isamu was a bit quick IMO. Same as always my review right here: https://youtu.be/NR3saVhZ6Ns

I don't think the memory card was destroyed because they were able to present the video footage to the news afterwards. |
Didn't expect to get so much on Daybreak so soon, but was really pleased to see we did. Lot of interesting stuff happening there.
I've not been a fan of the line the driver says after transforming ("A jump to the sky...", etc.). They just feel really awkward. But I actually liked Punching Kong's. Also just liked Punching Kong a lot as a suit and the finisher was great too. One of the best so far for me. |
And I am now waiting for the plot to clash between Aruto's "no secrets" and some great, reality shattering secret down the line. Hopefully the clash can be managed gracefully, like the reviving of dead people in Gaim.
|
Really, really big fan of how fast this is progressing. I 100% expected them to keep going with a good chunk of these secrets for a third of the season; but they're out of the way so fast. This kind of quick progression and having our protagonists immediately go ahead and investigate things rather than lingering on them for months is reminding me of early Build in the best of ways.

This episode is a masterpiece. Heavy plot drops at just the 4th episode, Aruto revelaing his identity to Fuwa this early, and the action scenes are just all around great. I know this is the new era so they had to bring their A game, but honestly this feels like an S game. Good job Toei.
Shame that Anna got destroyed rather early. I would love to see her becoming a recurring character throughout the show. |
