Kamen Rider Faiz Celebrates 15th Anniversary With Hello Kitty Collaboration
Back in 2003, the Kamen Rider for that year was a cool mysterious young man who fought to protect the dreams of others by wearing a suit of armor thanks to a flip phone and a belt and fighting against the Orphenochs. Fast-forward to 2018, Kamen Rider Faiz, the 4th Heisei Rider show, celebrates its 15th anniversary by announcing a collaboration event with Sanrio's Hello Kitty in SANRIO EXPO 2018. On the day of this announcement, actors of the show Kento Handa who played Takumi Inui/Kamen Rider Faiz and Kouhei Murakami who played Masato Kusaka/Kamen Rider Kaixa(and recently Bud/Zyuoh Bird in Zyuohger) graced the stage with their prescence. Handa said he "could not be any more happier" and Murakami claimed the event to be "cute".
A total of 22 types of merchandise will be sold such as tote bags and keychains, etc on May 2018. https://i.imgur.com/EsrA9ST.jpg referenced from Mainichi Shimbun(URL: https://mainichi.jp/articles/2018020...0m/200/021000c ) |

Well, say what you will about Kamen Rider, its versatility as a brand impossible to argue against.

I do not get Faiz's enduring popularity. It had some cool suits, but the show itself was such a melodramatic clusterfuck.
Also, I am so envious of Kento Handa's hair. |
Nothing says whiplash like a Faiz x Hello Kitty collab.
Pairing up something as cute and fluffy as HK with something as dark and depressing as Faiz is practically joke-worthy. |
|
LMAO. I don't understand, but I love it!
|
Welcome to Sanrio. They'll crossover with everything and anything.
Godzilla Transformers Evangelion KISS Faiz is just another to add to the list. The shirts they've made for this promotion though are gorgeous and I need them. |
What? I mean, I love it but... what?

I liked the characters, from Faiz to the mysterious Blue Woman that never seemed to get an explanation as to who she was, (but holy cow she's kind of scary in the Faiz Paradise Lost movie!),..to the Bartender-Woman Orphenoch,..I just liked the characters.
Some things,..like maybe that Big Lebowski movie, or maybe Napolean Dynamite, (I'm trying to think of a good character example),..it's almost like they become classics despite the movie. Like people just like those characters so the story endures. The Big Lebowski is not a great movie, but it has some interesting characters that you sort of just start to like despite the limitations or short comings of the movie itself. Faiz I suspect is sort of like that. It's not that it's the greatest writing or the greatest story,..but there are easily at least 5-6 characters that are interesting enough that you just .... like them. at least 'imo' .. and all that. That was my problem with Ryuki. It's not that it was a bad story or the characters weren't likable,..but I felt like in 50 episodes I didn't even really get to know any of them. It was only weeks after finishing the series I realized that Bat-Rider was probably the most interesting one and the one I remembered most. I have the same issue with Amazons (which I really enjoyed),...weeks after watching it I realize the Riders I liked the most and still thought about were Jin and Iyu,..they were the most interesting characters (and Iyu was an emotionless corpse so I have no idea why she's interesting, maybe just the tragedy of her character or that she grew as the season went one and even became a better fighter), but they seemed to get a lot of backstory and be a lot more fleshed out as characters than most of the others. So I think Faiz is like that,..you feel sort of like you get to know the characters a bit, they get some backstory and they go through some growth as the show goes on. And maybe at the end of the day it's like anything else or like music even, you either sort of like it or you don't. It's probably why everyone seems to have a favorite Rider or favorite Rider series that's different from other peoples. |
This is like the most random and out there crossover you could possibly think of, even by Japanese standards... in what way does any of this make any sense?
|
Because Japan.
hahahah |
I suddenly remembered that a collaboration between X Japan and Sanrio happened too.

I haven't actually seen Faiz but this is hilarious in concept. Not sure if it beats the Mazinger one though.

Just seeing Faiz done up ala hello kitty would be hilarious. |
Kamen Rider + Hello Kitty? Two of my favourite things♡

that Mazinger Z-Hello Kitty figure is terrifying. If that crawled out from under the bed I'd try to stomp it to death.
I mean the Mazinger figure with the bow-tie? Ok whatever. But that Kitty figure is nightmare material. |
