Episode 47 "Battle Of Red Cliffs"
Wow, Legend Heroes has done so much to pay off so many story beats. From Sun Quan taking up the mantle of his brother which to me is a perfect way to end his arc allowing him to experience his brother's struggle and come to an understanding with him. And I love his new found dynamic with Liu Bei being the smarter “younger brother” to cast the while his inclusion is very late in the game it still offers so much with so little time. Cao cao descent to villany with his discarding ideals to the point where not even being compared to Dong Zhou gets a reaction out of him makes for a truly terrifying villain to fight. Then there Liu Bei his overwhelming Hero Power in the face of Sun Quan defeat, the power of Imperial controlling him once again mirroring his beat down of Dong Zhou in episode 25 and his growth of having Zhuge Liang being able to talk him down when that didn’t work before in episode 41. It shows he is not infallible, how his powers are indeed scary but how he also comes out of this stronger than before and won’t commit the snake mistakes as last time. We're nearing the end so soon and when that happens I’ll be there for it. |
While I am overall glad that he finally got something, I feel like this latest arc with Sun Ce would've been alot more effective had we gotten it earlier. Plus it has to share screen time with Kaiser which, while not done terribly, could've worked great as its own separate arc altogether.
The climax of episode 47 was pretty friggen awesome though, I will say. |
Episode 48 "The Great Warlord Descends" & Episode 49 "Expedition Memorial"
Cao Cao descent to villainy from his lust for more power has created the final boss Sima Yan and I do love the suit it is very much an eviler version of Imperial and that is brilliant as the Legend Hero who destroys the world from both Liu Bei and Cao Cao dream has been revealed. https://i.ibb.co/x71LxR3/Screenshot-20210727-224926.jpg https://i.ibb.co/t4Ywr0S/Screenshot-20210727-224910.jpg Plus big red eyes and a black body with gunmetal grey linings are always going to look amazing to me. Mi Zhu and his brothers, especially Han Fu, got one last amazing moment to shine. Cementing their friendship with Liu Bei and for being so out of focus lately. But the real focus of this episode is Zhuge Liang. https://i.ibb.co/XX058nx/Screenshot-20210727-225006.jpg Never living life, always feeling contempt of his burdens of being an angel and how thanks to Liu Bei he starts to enjoy things tying it all together is Xu Shu garden and the memories she‘s made and wanted to make with him In an inverse of Sima Yan Zhuge Liang gives up his life to Liu Bei. https://i.ibb.co/MhhJ088/Screenshot-20210727-225018.jpg And the final battle is upon us and at the center of Cao Cao story is Diaochan |
I dug the hell out these two episodes! From the high stakes, the other bits of story they managed to sneak in. Like establishing that Cao Cao had fallen so far that he started neglecting Diachan, as well as showing us that they remembered that Bulk and Skull existed, and of course, the Mi Zhu brothers getting their shining moment. I am incredibly hyped to see the finale!

Final Episode "Final Battle"
Spoilers for Kamen Rider OOO and Amazons Season 2 Finales The finale of a show is always an interesting feeling. And I will dearly miss this show. Diaochan showing up and being the beating heart to Cao Cao character is exactly the type of story that the show has put a lot of justified stock into and rounding out with the Flyquitos protecting their only fan feels like the natural conclusion to their stories wished we saw them after the whole things were over though but I suppose it’s just like their characters to disappear like that. With Cao Cao’s sense of self coming back the Sima Yi was exercised and he summons his final trump card Legend King Deathlon and wow the sense of scale is huge. https://i.ibb.co/cvN5NXN/Screenshot-20210730-220352.jpg Comparing it next to Eternity which was scaled to be bigger than an average Legend King, Deathlon towers over definitely an impressive final boss I’ll admit. I am also glad to see Eternity back reminds me of how Tajador was made unavailable after Putotyra’s debut and was brought back for the finale as a symbolic gesture of Eiji and Ankh’s friendship. With Sima Yi defeated Cao Cao offers to simply step out but he, Liu Bei, and even Sun Quan have to settle this they transform and battle and the victor is Liu Bei but in a scene similar to Amazons Season 2 Finale we see the initial clash and then cutaway to the victor but I get the feeling people are going to be less mad about this though. https://i.ibb.co/p0Xc0pK/Screenshot-20210730-220412.jpg Liu Bei wish of everybody being happy is impossible simply for being too vast but he understands he wants to get rid of the Dream Battle instead for people to live normal lives and thanks to Zhuge Liang quick-thinking goffers an alternative solution and him and the Five tiger Generals say their farewells to Liu Bei. In one final scene, Zhou Yu reminisces when she and Sun Ce first met and gives up her life for him thus ending the Tiger of Gangdong story. And so the story raps about getting to finally see Gongzan Sun back!! And the Master as well. https://i.ibb.co/RNnMH9F/Screenshot-20210730-220438.jpg Cao Cao has softened considerably with Diaochan even wanting to learn Dragon Fist, Sun Ce and Quan is now duos of fighters and Liu Bei is the only one who remembers it’s fine this way and although we don’t see their human forms the 5 generals return and with Liu Bei still wishing every day for happier future. https://i.ibb.co/02kY1DQ/Screenshot-20210730-220453.jpg Thank you Legend Hero it’s been a blast. I'll post one final thought on this whole experience so look forward to that and thank you, everybody, for reaching this point. https://i.ibb.co/nCX1Sr7/Screenshot-20210730-220509.jpg |
I'm not quite to the end, but this thread inspired me to watch this series. I really enjoy how it is a blend of Kamen Rider & Super Sentai. Additionally, this has motivated me to read The Three Kingdoms so I can better understand the character motivations. All in all, this has become one of my favorite tokusatsu series I've watched in the past few years. Thank you for enlightening me!
|
Man, if they had somehow found the extra time to show an actual fight between the final three, and brought back Bulk and Skull one last time, I would've called this finale out and out perfect. Still, what was there was all around great, and I was so happy to see Gongsun Zan back!
Will definitely make a final thoughts post too! |
Grand, remember the thing I said I wanted to show you way back when?
It's a music video of the show's OP, set to the fights the staff liked the best. Here ya go. Also, found a behind the scenes filming video. |
Final Thoughts And Something A Bit More Personal
So the ending thank you everyone I know I don’t comment on every single post you guys make but do know I do read them. From the bottom of my heart for every viewer, commentator and watcher for putting up with an inconsistent schedule It’s been a blast this whole year or at least close to that time. But let's look back on it: what compelled me to make this thread in the first place? Part of it was inspired by both Die's and Fish Sandwich's various threads that got the jumpstart for me but the other one is a but more personal and I want to share that out. The summer of 2020 and the Covid-19 Quarantine was in full swing and I returned to the Ultraman franchise thanks to Z being simulcasted on Youtube (which if you haven't watched this and Trigger yet you should there no need for any past knowledge and it may seem intimadating at first but Ultraman is a ton of fun) after my last exposure to the franchise was Mega Monster Battle: Ultra Galaxy movie. This ignited a hunger for other tokusatsu outside of Kamen Rider and I quickly binged the entirety of the New Generation Ultraman shows I’ve missed over the years showing a side of tokusatsu I’ve neglected for far too long. And in that same vein I sought out my now first completed Sentai; Kiramager, a season I found absolutely adored by the fanbase making it’s return after the hiatus and for the first time I got into Sentai after not gelling with other entries in the past. And that new spark also was what led me into watching Legend Heroes. It shocked me that a show that is as accessible as Ultraman Z wasn’t garnering any attention and I’ve begun to realize the extent to how niche tokusatsu really was. The discussion online was usually Kamen Rider, Super Sentai/Power Rangers, Ultraman and Godzilla in that order essentially (with Metal Heroes getting thrown around here and there) so I wanted to give at least one show a bit more exposure in that regard I feel like I’ve succeeded. Legend Heroes when I first started watching was a positive experience that I really enjoyed but it grew beyond that, the stakes we’re ever raised, the characters changed and grow not even five episode is the main cast the same again, I thoroughly enjoyed the suit designs and the mythology the show crafted, the lesson and interactions touched me and I hope you too as well. Thank you Legend Heroes becoming not only one of my favorite shows ever but what I considered quintessential tokusatsu that everyone should give a chance. (BTW for those wondering my other quintessential toku are Ultraman Gaia and Kamen Rider Kuuga) Will I ever do another toku discussion thread? Maybe in fact highly likely but I make no promises and even if I don’t I personally feel proud of this one right here and from here on out I’m going to be more responsive in this thread. Quote:

DS' Final Thoughts on Legend Heroes: Three Kingdoms Oh man, I wasn't exactly sure what I expected when I first sat down to watch Legend Heroes, but lemme tell ya, I don't think anything could've prepared me for it. And I mean that in the best way possible! This show was fantastic! Is it perfect? No, but there's alot to love about this low budget toku from South Korea, to the point it's become one of my favorite toku ever. But first, let's get the singular big negative out of the way... The Weakest Aspect This is weird to talk about, because Legend Heroes' biggest weakness is directly linked to and parallel to its biggest strength; And that's its character focus. See, here's the thing, the characterization and interaction in this show is so strong that whenever the show does fumble on the focus some characters get, it really stands out. And I feel like the biggest victim of this is Sun Ce, and by extension, Sun Qian. The Sun family is meant to represent the third "kingdom" in this adaptation of Romance of the Three Kingdoms, so it's such a shame that they are so out of focus compared to Liu Bei and Cao Cao. Granted, the original story is also guilty of this to an extent, and plenty of other adaptations are too, but there was still way more than enough material that I really felt they could've used. Heck, at least the SD Gundam adaptation was nice enough to give Sun Qian a super mode like the other Emperors! I guess what it boils down to is that I wanted more of these already interesting characters, and hey, that's not so bad of a complaint to have, is it? There were also a few moments from the original story I would've loved to have seen them keep, but admittedly it'd be hard to recreate some of those so it's really not a big deal at all. THE GOOD STUFF I just noted the character writing, and oh man was it ever great! I absolutely loved this cast overall, and this show is incredibly full of great character moments. From the silly antics of Bulk and Skull to the heavy drama in Cao Cao's' story, this show has pretty much everything I could ever want out of its diverse cast. The overarching lesson of the show was one that I also never would've expected coming from a kid's' show, but is one that I highly respect the writers on doing: The lesson that some dreams can't be achieved, and that not everyone can be truly happy, but despite that, you need to keep moving forward not just for the good of the world, but most importantly for your own self worth. I feel like Gongsun Zan showed this best. She might've lost her dream of being a grand martial artist, but she found an all new dream in business and is every bit as happy as she was before; If not more so. Outside of those, the action could be surprisingly good when it wanted to be, and alot of the suit designs are some of my favorites that I've ever seen in a Toku. If this show ever gets a high end action figure line, you better believe I'll be buying a ton of it. MY FAVORITE THINGS Favorite Character: Without any sort of doubt, LIU BEI!!! I never once felt that they messed his character up, and his actor made him an absolute delight to watch ontop of the excellent characterization that this show had to offer. And in the end it made me really happy that this toku decided to deviate from history in terms of the final outcome, as it only felt like the proper conclusion after all was said and done. Favorite Episode: Episode 6. I'm a huge sucker for friendship tropes, especially when they're done well, so having an entire episode dedicated to the friendship of Liu Bei and Gongsun Zan and highlighting how the two complete each other was absolutely top notch. And with the added bonus of keeping their relationship entirely platonic too! It hit me right in the feels in all of the best ways and was the episode where I knew I was hooked. Favorite Suit: Ma Chao. This is a first for me actually, as in most adaptations of Three Kingdoms I tend to love Zheng Fei the most. But what can I say? Not only is it a great design in its own right, but having it tied to my favorite two-parter in the show(Episodes 26 and 27), as well as making sure that Liu Bei focuses entirely on boxing whenever he uses the Ma Chao piece made it an absolute highlight every time it showed up. FINAL THOUGHTS Seriously, if anyone's been reading this thread without actually watching the show itself, you're doing yourself an incredible disservice. It's free on YouTube for pete's' sake! Go give it a shot! I really do feel like this is a show that has something to dang near everyone. In the end, despite some minor fumbles here and there, Legend Heroes: Three Kingdoms is a fantastic ride full of great characters, an engaging story, and is overall just a ton of fun to watch. I was highly entertained and it's become one of my favorite Toku, right alongside the likes of MMPR and Kuuga. And if the same mind behind this show should ever make, say Legend Heroes: Warring States, you'd better believe I'd be there to see it. I give Legend Heroes a very strong 5/6. |
Oh man so many people having Legend Hero become one fo thier favavorite toku shows gets me a giddy I'm always here to talk to anybody about this show. In fact it's going to be like how Fish has Kamen Rider Ghost and Switchblade has Ultraman Max this is my thing now.

I appreciate how each suit had an animal motif and unique weapon. Especially because I felt this show basically pulled off Ryuki's original concept: a new hero every episode (or, well, a new hero every fortnight).
I love Imperial's sword and just GAH ITS SO GOOD On the topic of Sun Ce and Sun Qian, I would loved to have seen a combo of his three suits; form coulda been called Legend Hero Dynasty or something. EDIT: I also find it impressive how this show got, like, 2-3 nighttime fight scenes. Those seem like a rarity in other shows! I love this show a lot |
I was always lagging just a bbbbit behind the thread for most of the back half, unfortunately, but I have very much been eagerly keeping up with this show, and now I'm at the end! Crazy to think we're finally here, huh?
I'm going to refrain from trying to go too in-depth on my overall thoughts, because I seriously need to give myself a break sometimes, but as is apparent from what posts I did make throughout, I feel this is a genuinely fantastic series, and I'm genuinely grateful to GrandComplete for making this thread, because I'd almost certainly still be sleeping on it otherwise. If me talking about Kuuga in any way lead to this, well then that's just one more reason I'm glad I made that thread. It started out pretty casual; speaking very personally, I think a huge part of the fun for me at first was simply the nostalgic feeling of watching tokusatsu in a foreign language, which Japanese only kinda feels like anymore with how much I've surrounded myself with it. But yeah, for me too, somewhere along the line, Legend Heroes became much more than that, and I realized how much I was being entertained by it entirely on its own merits. It's a series clearly made with a ton of heart that surprised me with its legitimate storytelling chops and strong grasp on what makes a hero tokusatsu show click. It's blatantly aping a number of other shows, but it's doing it intelligently and in a way where the end result is something truly unique. This show made me laugh, it warmed my heart, broke it a few times, kept me on the edge of my seat throughout, and it even educated me a little bit, as weird as that is to say! I had an epiphany about how much of an impact Legend Heroes has made on me a few weeks back. See, I'm as big a fan of Gundam as I am of tokusatsu, and had been sleeping on the recent SD Gundam World series because the whole Three Kingdoms theme was something I wasn't familiar with that didn't hold any appeal to me... but then it suddenly hit me that, uh, that's not exactly true anymore! Which lead to me finally watching Sangoku Soketsuden, so that's actually two shows this thread has gotten me to watch! (And while I'm on the subject, if anyone else would like their Three Kingdoms fix with cute but cool robots, that's also freely available on YouTube subbed in multiple languages!) So that whole experience was something of an affirmation of how much I'd gotten out of deciding to hop on this train nearly a year ago. I'm pretty sure I'd never heard of this show beforehand and now it's something I can't believe used to not be in my life. Thanks again for making this thread, and for having the dedication to see it through to the end. :thumb: |
Jumping in on this now since there's probably not gonna be any other time after this.
I also watched Legend Heroes and greatly enjoyed it (surprise surprise). Technically, I had actually seen it 2-3 years ago (I think it was when Battle of the Red Cliffs first came out) but I still remember a fairly large chunk of it due to the show being my first real exposure to the Three Kingdoms in media. I remember being legitimately surprised it came out, as the show's predecessor series SFX Fantasy Rayforce sadly never got past the initial planning stages due to lack of financial investors: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vX3A8OFgMBo Obliviously you can see that several elements from Rayforce would eventually find life again in Legend Heroes, so admittedly no real loss there. Anyhow, back to Legend Heroes. As others have stated, the one of the show's best qualities is absolutely it's characters. The show probably has more recurring characters than the entire cast of some rider series, and while not all of them are developed as Liu Bei, the show still manages to get you to care about them. Like, they had an episode about one of the Mi Zhu's buddies. Seriously! An entire episode centered around trying to get you to care about one of the side character's best friends, and y'know what? It totally worked! I still remember everything about it from the guy's Skunk themed armor, to his stink grenade launcher, to the scene where Sima Yi tries to be deadly serious as he presents a regular gas mask to Cao Cao acting like it's some epic counter measure to the stink grenades. Speaking of things I remember in great detail, favorite suit (excluding the supers like Imperial and Sima Yan) hands down: Legend Hero Yu Ji/Zhang Lu (the blind Peacock guy). I immediately gravitated toward it when I noticed it during the dream sequence in ep 1, and it is still my favorite of the regular suits. The black and orange/yellow(?) color scheme, the long coattails/skirt thing with matching capelet, the spiked fan weapon, the giant spiked fans on his back, and the added detail of the eye guards on his helmet being massive since he's blind and therefore wouldn't need to see out of them, god there is so much going on with the suit I totally dig all of it. |

I think it really ended up coming together for me in the finale especially, where Liu Bei draws a comparison to what's happened to Cao Cao and his initial trouble with Imperial. Liu Bei is surrounded by people who care about him and support him, but Cao Cao spent like 75% of the series brooding in a dark room kept company by a guy actively trying to twist his goals to his own ends. When you think about it like that, the whole final arc definitely makes a lot of sense, and, you know, Cao Cao ends up in a good place, so all's well that ends well, right? |
