Final Fantasy 2022
With Final Fantasy XVI coming out what FF games are you playing?
Final Fantasy III (NES) (Mobile) Going after the Dark Crystals Final Fantasy IV (SNES) (Mobile) I have 3 party members and am in the 1st desert. Final Fantasy IX (Play Station 1) - Playing on PS2 due to backward compatibility for PS 1 Games About to enter the Ice Cave. Final Fantasy X (Play Station 2) Going for the final Summons Final Fantasy XII (Play Station 2) I had just cleared the booby trapped mountain pass. (Just after the Gilomore Jungle) Final Fantasy XIII (Play Station 3) Starting Chapter 4 |
I might wait for XVI to get a Steam port, since I don't feel like upgrading to PS5 yet.
I'm planning to replay XIII LR on New Game +, to complete the quest for killing all the Omegas, as well as that one quest with the girl calling the telephone booth, which I missed before. I need to save all the souls! |
While I'll gladly wait for Final Fantasy XVI, I am actually looking forward to Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin. I also have the original off Steam, so I'll probably get around to that before long.
At the moment, I've finished all of the Main Story Quests for the Final Fantasy XIV Free Trial, meaning I'm right before Stormblood. Now I'm levelling Machinist, and preparing to tackle the rest of the content before I have to make room on my computer to play VIII, III, and I. I do have XV, but considering how well my computer runs it, I might just get it for Playstation or something. I also need to get around to getting the rest of the XIII trilogy. |
13 and 15 were both such disappointments to me that I don't have much faith in the brand anymore moving forward.
That said, I started the FF5 OVA, and that's pretty cool |
My problem with the franchise in its current state is how Square Enix keep making all these spin-offs and remakes for "nostalgia appeal", instead of just focusing on the main installments. I feel like XVI could've been released years ago if not for all that filler content.
|
With a PS Mini , PS 2 and PS 3 I can play up to Final Fantasy XIII. I myself may go Steam for Final Fantasy XV and XVI due to how expensive the PS4 and 5 are.
That on the table I'm hoping to finish up to FF XIII plus Lightning Returns. FF XII Update I'm about to face a 36,000 HP Esper boss fight in a shrine just after the booby trapped mountain pass once I clear a few trials. I'm going to level everybody up to 43 or better before I try it so I'll do this in Golimore Jungle. |

I do agree about wanting more original content, especially considering how good XVI looks, to me at least. However, I don't have a problem with how they're handling some of those things, since compared to some other "nostalgai bait," I do think, while probably nowhere near the level of their predecessors, they are done rather well.

Quality is mostly subjective in this case. Personally, I came in to the franchise through the XIII trilogy, which I enjoyed a lot. And while it's too early to judge XVI yet, it does look pretty intriguing to me, from what we've seen of it so far.
I'd argue that a fraction of any decrease in quality of new installments might even be a side effect of resources (people, assets, time, etc.) being put in to nostalgia. I don't think nostalgia is inherently bad, as a harmless remaster like VIII got in 2019 was an already finished game. I think for nostalgia, they should go small and simple, not big and extravagant. |
I've been playing Final Fantasy since I had a Play Station 1.
In the case of Play Station 2 , 3 and 4 I bought Final Fantasy frst. I own PS 4 Final Fantasy XV but may play that on PC VIA Steam. Games completed Final Fantasy I (PS1) Final Fantasy II (PS1) Final Fantasy VI (PS1) Final Fantasy Mystic Quest (SNES) Finished Final Fantasy VIII proper but couldn't beat the Sorceress boss at the end. Final castle for Final Fantasy V. As for the main series I was able to resume FF I - XIII on PS1 Mini , PS 2 and PS3 so hopefully I can finish Final Fantasy V. Size Stats On Final Fantasy XV Windows PC - 155 GB with 4,000 resolution top end Xbox 1 - 51 Gigs full game PS4 - 50 GB Full install. Just in case you guys plan to play the 15th chapter better have an open hard drive for this one. My thoughts on remake games Tomb Raider Legend Trilogy is fine in this one case because it gave PS2 players a chance to finish the Trilogy. Tomb Raider IX Underworld got a backwards system release. I wish this had happened with Final Fantasy XV. This happens with a lot of games unfortunately. You can't remake a game on a previous system. You still get the full game as is. You would have to start over from zero for it to work. |

I'm actually hoping that revisiting the older games gives a renewed sense of inspiration, resulting in a better end product. But I still have little faith in them these days. |
Nostalgia is good up to a point but you can't hold on to the past forever. That's the mistake Square - Enix is making with these remake games. Final Fantasy needs to move forward. Not look back. I'm mainly getting caught up on the series right now. I can play up to Final Fantasy XIII.
Games yet to play Final Fantasy IV Final Fantasy VII Currently Playing Final Fantasy IX Final Fantasy XII Final Fantasy XIII Need To Finish Final Fantasy III (NES) - Mobile Final Fantasy V Final Fantasy X (PS2) |

If all this work on spin-offs and remakes does eventually spur some kind of inspiration for new original content like you suggest, maybe it'll be worth it. |
I finished Final Fantasy thanks to a PS1 re release and Final Fantasy II. (New to the USA).
Some later entries are easier. Final Fantasy X wasn't too hard surprisingly. I'm nearly finished. Also Final Fantasy XII isn't too much of a challenge. (Need to be strong enough.) Final Fantasy XIII is a rough game. Starting with Final Fantasy XII the games have been looking more realistic lately even with the limitations of the PS 2. In Final Fantasy XII when you're in a building you actually look like you're in a building. Even the shrines are like that. The mine levels were trippy for this reason. It was a bit disorienting. I have Final Fantasy V on Mobile so now I can catch up 3 games after Final Fantasy II NES. |
XII is probably my favorite mainline Final Fantasy titles (I'm not counting XIV on account that I'm only 2/5ths into the story, so I don't have the full picture there, but I do really love XIV), gameplay, probably not as much.
XIII, while I did like it, I'd like to play XIII-2 and Lighting Returns to make a full judgement. X was good, I have a lot of fun with turn-based games, really should finish X-2, since I made a mistake on my first run, so I'd like to do it properly. VII Remake, probably my favorite gameplay, of course, I also like XV's from what I've played. Also, thanks Wentwood for sharing the specs, since I'll probably switch to Playstation since my computer probably can't take it, even if I remove XIV. That and I'd like to reinstall VIII, I, or any of the others I picked up on sale (especially VI and IX). I also have a PS1 with a collection of old games, including the original Final Fantasy VII, which I'm planning on playing. |
In a few days I may be able to play Final Fantasy X- 2 and XIII - 2 Plus FF XIII Lightning Returns on PS 3 but I need to catch up the main line first. By moving Metal Gear Solid V Part 1 Ground Zeros and Part 2 Phantom Pain onto PS3 that opens up PS 4 for Final Fantasy XV. The base game alone will make a decent dent in things. After FF XV I may not get any further games.
This may seem like a throw away for one game. Final Fantasy XV was the first game I bought for PS 4 and I'm not losing that spot. I say this on account of having to add the expansion stuff for Royal Edition. In regards to the Pixel Remaster set I have to admit that the music on this is cool but it feels like going backwards to me with the 8 bit NES look. Saw some footage of this on You Tube just now. 3 has a nice rock tweek to the monster battle fights. That makes it feel right which they could have done that for the DS version of the game. Mobile hit it right with Final Fantasy IV which I presently play. |

XIII LR is one you might need a guide for, since you're going to be watching the clock a lot. There are a few limited time quests that are easy to miss. But otherwise, the time limit is generous enough, especially if you spam chronostasis. There's a lot of customization options for the Schema system as well. |
I need to get Final Fantasy X - 2 , XIII - 2 and XIII Lightning Returns.
After I add those 3 to my library I may start up X - 2 soon since I'm almost finished with Final Fantasy X. Not sure if I would need to get the HD Remaster set for Play Station 3. As for Final Fantasy XII I need to get my accessories liscences finished up first. |
