By the way, why are sports-themed episodes always so good in Ultraman? Seriously. ... Quote:

Episode 6 was another solid one. Not particularly heavy on story or anything, but R/B's great sense of comedic timing does a lot to make up for that.

Dark Orb finally arrives next week. Based on the preview, it looks like Aizen is the host.
|
I just realized R/B don't have a support team. Even in shows that don't have attack teams like Ginga, Orb and Geed they have allies who support their fight but so far the 2 bros are doing things by themselves. Maybe things will change when their mom comeback?
|
I caught up watching episodes 5 & 6 today. I like this show and it's goofy Slice of Life But Also Giant Monsters thing it's doing.
I like them recolouring monsters. It makes things a little more interesting than straight up reusing old costumes. I swear if I see Black King again... |
Koma says the world is too small for her, she says "Ciao" when she leaves - she's an Alien of the Blood Tribe, isn't she?
That's the Ultraman X Kamen Rider crossover we need - Evolto and the Blood Tribe gang are a subspecies of Alien Rayblood from Ultraman! What would I give for this to actually happen. Anyways, I liked Episode 6. For me, it crystallizes (Ha!) what I like about R/B: Very well done slice of life stuff with great action. The characters come around a little bland and predictable but still fun to watch. I think they’ve done the right thing with making a little off-beat and lighthearted series after a rather heavy experience. Geed had its share of fun stuff too but it was way more serious and dependant on characters than R/B. And for that I like it more, but R/B serves as a different kind of entertainment and that’s fine. And no matter how "bland" the characters get, if you can tell a fun story with them and round it up with great miniature work, effects, suits and action then I can’t get mad at this show. |
Just saw episode 8 live. That was a badass debut for Orb Dark. Wasn't expecting that twist of Aizen, but it makes perfect sense. Now I can't wait for Gai to appear and kick Aizen's butt
|
I've only been able to find the first 4 episodes. GenM hasn't updated in a month, and ColorTimer Subs keeps saying they'll make a torrent "soon".
*sigh* |

thanks I'll check it out

I really am loving this show more and more with each week. Episode 7 was excellent. Great humor AND good drama. The characters are coming into their own bit by bit and one thing I'm seriously starting to appreciate about R/B is how natural all the dialogue and conversations sound. Well, except for Aizen, but that's his shtick.

Tv-nihon has ep 1 kissasian has 1-4 ColorTimerSubs has 1-4 torrented GenM has 1-3 Over-Time has none. I guess I got spoiled with Geed, every week the latest episode was subbed quickly. Not to mention Crunchyroll had Geed as well. I actually cancelled my Crunchyroll subscription since they didn't have R/B. Guess I got spoiled. Can't believe how annoyingly difficult it is to find Ultraman R/B episodes. I know eventually they'll be online but I'm trying to watch them now (sort of) as they air. ….especially since Kamen Rider Build just ended and I have a gap in my weekend Toku viewing. Well at least I have ep.5 to watch now, and the rest of the Geed movie I started last night. Thank you for pointing out that Facebook group. I would not have thought to look for Toku on Facebook. (mostly because I really don't like Facebook, but for Toku I will subscribe! ) |
Dark Orb next week! I'm kinda curious about how that will work out.
|
Here's the link for episode 6. There's already sub for ep 7 but they haven't uploaded it yet
https://facebook.com/story.php?story...__tn__=S%2AW-R I'm also trying my best to be patient. This is my first time watching an Ultra Series live so it's kinda frustrating when Sentai and Rider get subbed whitin 1 or 2 days but for R/B it takes a whole week or more |
Thanks. I'll grab that now.
It's weird because Geed seemed to be subbed right away just like Rider and Sentai are. ..maybe there's just less interest in R/B than there was in Geed. (Geed was pretty great.) |

I hope next year's R/B movie will feature all New Generation actors reprising their roles to end the Heisei Era in a high note |
Anyone else notice that Dark Orbs little henshin device looks like a stylized pizza cutter?
|
I just follow Color Timer Subs on Twitter and download the latest ep from their Mega link. Episode 7 is already up for download.
|
I also just watched ep 7 sub
Did the bros' father reference Build? First he said "Love and peace" then at the end he says "Ciao" |
So far, how is R/B?
I'm curious as to whether people think it's good. Been hearing nothing but good things about this show. And are the transformations three minutes long any more (I don't mind long transformations, but they can get a bit annoying)? I'm low key getting a sense of deja vu asking this.... |
Quote:
Transformation seem to be getting even longer. It's a bit worse since the character transform a couple of times an episode and there are two of them. With 3 crystals now, that's up to 6 transformation sequences per episode. They at least don't make us sit through the same one twice. |
What He/She said /\/\/\/\
Lighthearted, funny at times, very good FX and Miniatures work. Yes the transformation sequence is ….. not short. it actually makes Geeds henshin sequence seem short in comparison. "You go, I go, Here we go,.GEEEEEEEDD!!" and that was pretty much it right? ...yeah this one goes on for a while. Lots of dramatic posing and shot placement of all the different parts of the toys from the case to the coins to the device, to shots of the coins being used, to the device being used.... yeah it's not a short Henshin…..plus there's two of them so...yeah. But the characters are at least amusing. And the "Ultramen fighting Kaiju" sequences are well done. |

Sounds like something I could enjoy. I've never been one for Ultraman, but I really liked Orb and kinda enjoyed Geed. |
uhh,...I wouldn't say "Fantastic". As a Godzilla fan and someone who really likes seeing miniature cities getting wrecked while Giants and Kaiju flail around beating on each other, I'd say the FX and Miniature work and camera angles (to give a sense of size), is easily just as good as Geed.
The characters and stories so far I'd say are amusing,..light hearted, easy to digest. Maybe I liked Geed so much because he was a Toku fan, (the same reason I love Akibarangers), but Geed got me hooked on the very first episode, I couldn't wait to see more. R/B I'm enjoying. It's fun so far, … amusing. I'm not 'hooked' on it like I was with Geed and some other Ultra series (like Max or Mebius or Nexus). But it's good. It's easy to watch and fun to watch while you're watching it. ...I dont' want to oversell it but I don't want to undersell it either. The miniature work and camera work though I think is fantastic. Just as good as Geed. If it's the same exact people and crew that did the SPFX work for Geed I wouldn't be the slightest bit surprised. Geed had fantastic FX and camera angles too. The Ultraman shows have really gotten a lot better about selling the idea of scale and size and making the guys look like GIANTS and not just guys in costumes on a soundstage. |
Honestly I'm finding it pretty okay at best. It's enjoyable, but there's really nothing that leaps out to me like there was for X, Orb and Geed (or Original, Seven and Jack for that matter...).
I feel like I'm underselling it a bit because visually Ultra at "okay" is still fantastic, but I dunno. It just hasn't quite clicked with me yet. That could be partly down to the piecemeal way I'm watching it though. |
Wow. Episode 8 is straight up genius. I mean, that report card gag alone is A+ material and they don't even show it long enough to read without pausing.
Honestly, the idea that R/B isn't as good as the past couple shows we've gotten is getting harder and harder for me to swallow. We'll see if it keeps up this kind of excellence, but at this point I think it's pretty unfair to write off R/B as being of a lesser quality than something like Geed just because it isn't as dramatic. |
Anyone notices when Aizen sings Gaia's theme? He is like Syndrome in The Incredibles. He's an Ultraman fan boy with a mental issue and ends up becoming a villain. His transformation and Orb Calibur sequence really cracked me up

It's that comparing the final run to a show only starting, you haven't gotten the emotional builds yet or seen the crescendos. The colorfulness and campiness usually makes for better emotional pulls because the comedy and softer exterior makes the emotional spots hit harder. When it's got that thick coating of looking warm and inviting you should be cautious, because that usually means they have much more room to move for the emotional beats to hit even harder because of how people don't expect it from the colorful/campy exterior. Same tends to be true for Riders and Sentai. Ditto to many modern toons too. It's that balance of 'cute' or 'colorful' or abstract, that allows for wider material to get used because it lulls you into that sense of security and creates false expectations from perceptions about material that's like that. People to this day still confuse style and aesthetic choices to mean something can't go serious or have serious moments, even though we've seen quite a lot of material(too many to list!) prove otherwise. |
Oh my God episode 8 is the best. Aizen being an angry old Ultraman fanboy is great. Plus the whole episode just LOOKS really good. I like it so much I'm going to watch it again!
|
wow ep 9 the heroes actually being smart and takes away the bad guy weapon
|
Holy crap, episode 8 is not only a masterpiece, but Makoto Aizen is one hell of a villain. He easily curb stomps fukuide kei and could very well be the Dan Kuroto of the Ultraman

Dear lord, episode 8 was amazing; Makoto Aizen aka "Ultraman Orb Dark Noir Black Schwarz" is the absolute best. I really hope he becomes the Evolto of this show and continues to grow alongside the heroes.
There’s no doubt in my heart anymore, I... https://i.imgur.com/JplHVio.jpg ... this show! |
Question. Aizen or God Kuroto.
One shall stand, one shall fall. Have fun folks. *goes to the back, wears soundproof headphones and casually eats dorayakis* |
Okay episode 8 has been a huge turnaround in this show for me. A villain that not only is some sort of meta commentary on how Ultras have changed over the years, but also actively perverts the morals and messages of the show he draws his powers from? R/B you are spoiling us.
