New Kamen Rider Era?
So, this is pretty recent news, but a new Era name is being decided upon. I thought I'd start this thread to discuss what could be new about the next era and how it'll differ from the Heisei and Showa Eras.
https://pbs.twimg.com/media/DAKfhF6UAAAlwYT.jpg:large If this is true then Kamen Rider Ex-aid would be the last in the Heisei Era. A pretty good ending to an era if you ask me. For my thoughts on what they could do, I'd like to see them try a Power Rangers approach to the new universe. Worldbuilding, subtle references to past series in the series, and an overarching villain that the main Riders would have to all team up against at some point like In Space. This could be plausible and would bring a change that I think they were trying to go for in the second half of the Heisei Era, but just failed to do due to the previous 10 seasons. With a new Era they could finally try to push forward and start anew with a new universe that is just getting it's first Rider. What do y'all think the new era should do? |
In the long run, it wouldn't mean a lot. The only reason there's a strong divide between the Heisei and Showa eras of Kamen Rider is because there was a decade between the last Showa series and the first Heisei series. A lot changed in that time not just technologically but also in regards to what TV shows were doing with stories - they were actually able to have serialized stories by the time Kamen Rider returned.
When Akihito is finally allowed to resign and a new era name is decided upon, I imagine we'll get a bit of extra fanfare just so Toei can hype it up as the first show of the new era but in reality, it won't mean a lot. Currently it's suggested Akihito won't step down until around December of next year, so we'll be in this weird phase similar to RX - the previous emperor passed away during that show's run so it technically was part of two eras. |
I have the opposite hope. I really want it to be different. They can really do something different too. Different status quo for the suit designs, universe, and characters.
They could really go all out and I think they will since it is the start of the new era. I just really hope they follow through with a connected universe if they're gonna try it. |

That season will be the 10th regular Heisei season since Decade, by the way. I think it'd be a perfect opportunity for another anniversary series - one that passes the torch onto a new era. Then we'll get our first "new era" Rider in the fall of 2019. |
Ex-aid is just the 8th season in the neo-heisei era. I don't think it matters that much.

I was just thinking about this the other day. W was the start of a new 10-year project, right? Well 2019 is 10 years later. Interested to see what they do for it.

This brings about an interesting thought IMO, should there be a different division of classification in terms on Kamen Rider itself? I think going by a pure Showa/Heisei division is a bit too simplistic. I mean Sentai has a more complex division, I think KR should too. Not sure how I'd divide it up though...

Sorry dopost.....

I think the Kamen Rider franchise will not has much change in 2019. Super Sentai like Liveman actually divided into two era: Showa and Heisei. Some of last episodes in Liveman actually in Heisei Era.
Turboranger can be considered as the first Super Sentai in Heisei Era in 1989. This is really different with Kamen Rider because Kuuga was considered as First Heisei Kamen Rider in 2000. |
Now I'm curious what Naruhito's reign will be called.
