The Amazon Kamen Rider Store
Remember how they're selling official Kamen Rider T-Shirts at Amazon? Well the store page has a new, easier to remember URL.
https://www.amazon.com/kamenriderstore They also added 3 new shirts: One for Black, another for all the Riders from Hibiki, and lastly, Ultimate Kuuga. And yeah, yeah, I kinda need that Ultimate Kuuga shirt, thanks. |
Always good to see Kuuga and Hibiki getting some love... just a shame it’s amazon exclusive. Blah. This stuff is why I’m glad I’m not as big into Transformers anymore.
Interesting to see they’re still shilling Amazons. Paired with the Ixa ads that is quite the introduction to Rider :lol |
That KR Black photo isn't centered.
Also aren't these shirts insanely low quality? One wash and the prints are fucking gone. |

Newest additions are a Zi-O phone case, an OOO pop socket, and tank tops for Kamen Rider Amazonz.

I just got in my TaToBa shirt, and it's definitely not as bright as the images show it to be. it's actually a little washed out.

Speaking of which, to go along with the new Gaim movie announcement, there is now a Gaim logo shirt, tank top, and pop finder on the store. |
I will say compared to the other shirts, the logo shirts look a bit cheap. The copyright logo stuck in the lower area kills it for me, even if it's super small.

Hoodies of all the Phase 1 Heisei Rider are now available!
https://www.instagram.com/p/CI4I-ThgtS1/ Phase 2 Hoodies coming soon! Very tempted to nab that Kuuga one, ngl. |
It's very unlikely these hoodies will look as good as those renders.
They really need to show what the actual product will look like. This looks like a heat press printing which will break up and fade over time rather quickly. If it is screen printed, that text is too small and thin to work. If you pick one up, let us know how it is! |
Damn those uh, those look pretty fucking trash not gonna lie.
You'd think being an official merch team you'd come up with some really bomb ass custom designs, but nope just slap a render of the Rider on it and call it a day. It's giving me heavy "Graphic Design is my Passion" vibes not gonna lie. No wonder they don't ship to EU. |

my goodness what are they doing. It's such low-effort, print-on-demand, generic items. Almost feels like a joke...

Like, looking at the subs first of all -- made an extremely strong start with 71 and Kuuga, both of which had fantastic subs (even if I disagree with translating the Grongi, but I get it), and then a very random choice with the Zi-O movie. Bit of a strange one to do and I think it puts more people off than draws people in honestly, but at least it would lead into deciding what one to do next? ... but we've heard NOTHING in the half a year since then, and only recently have we heard we're getting Gaim...!'s movie. On Toei's channel, in a livestream. Looking at merch, it's extremely unfocused. I would have thought it would make sense to put the spotlight mostly on the series you've subbed (71 and Kuuga), along with a few you know are popular like Gaim and Den-O; and the recent ones like Saber and Zero-One. Following on from that you'd probably want some basic action figures, so perhaps do simultaneous releases of a few DX items, RKFs, perhaps some SHFs too for the people already hooked on Rider collecting -- impress us by giving us a couple Premium Bandai items without large middleman and import fees attached. Meanwhile the SO-DO, SHODO and FRS lines are also quickly gaining popularity, so it might make sense to get a few of those in too especially as they are very cheap and hence there's a large draw to newcomers (same with RKFs). But I guess that just makes sense to me as an outsider who doesn't know how business works, because instead the right approach is apparently to get:- - SICs which are very expensive and limited in appeal with very out-there takes on a few specific characters - Expensive CSM and DX re-releases - Ichiban? - The... Acrylic Logo EX series - A single premium bandai SODO set marked at 80$ - Extremely generic general merch consisting of JPGs pasted on plain black pillows and clothes marked up at a premium and exclusive to Amazon - FRSes, which are actually good; especially as the Premium Bandai ones aren't more expensive - Absolutely nothing in sight for Ichigou and Nigou I just... man, I don't know; I don't want to be a downer, but. Someone tell me this is actually working. Someone tell me I'm just some stupid person who doesn't know how business works who's got tunnel vision on specific action figures and DX toys, and whose notions of recent series simultaneously sold on western markets alongside broadcasts of the recent shows like what Ultraman is doing is just stupid and shortsighted. Someone tell me that there's something I'm not understanding here at all because I cannot for the life of me make sense of this mess when Ultraman, the one that's supposedly on a budget; is trailblazing with subbed simulcasts, physical releases of official subs, official DUBS of some of its smaller projects, original t-shirt designs made available in the west and a goddamn marvel comic. Someone tell me that Kamen Rider, the toku franchise that is apparently doing the best and has the most money; is making more sensible business decisions with all this and I just don't get it at all. |

First off, there's a few things to keep in mind: Unless there was some new info released that I'm not aware of, Team Kamen Rider are not the ones creating the merchandise, merely trying to convince Toei to distribute it. They are also a team of like, six people. These six people then have to do their best to try and convince a major corporation, one that didn't even know there was a KR fanbase in the US for the longest time, that the result will be worth their while. Or to put it bluntly, make them alot more money. On top of that, also keep in mind that official merchandise designs will always, ALWAYS be alot more standard and "basic" than what fan designs are. There was a really in depth article I read a long time ago about why exactly that is, but now I can't find it for the life of me. If I do I'll be sure to edit this post and link it. That said, we HAVE gotten designs that are more in depth. Take a look at the very first line of shirts we got, or the Zero-One shirts. That said, there IS also a market for people who just wanna wear the logo. Heck, Yusuke Godai himself rocked a shirt that simplistic, and I want one. It's also a lot easier to convince a company to try something that won't cost them much(put out a basic logo bag), than something that has a high chance of risk(distributing every KR show only for no one to watch). I imagine it was alot easier for TKR to convince Toei to distribute 71 and Kuuga due to their immense importance and popularity in Japan, which is likely Toei's' main focus. Meanwhile, the Zi-O movie probably got out thanks to it being, well, a one-off movie, and thus probably a lot quicker and cheaper to distribute and alot less chance of being a money sink. Plus it had the Driver Giveaway attached, which of course helps to advertise and sell more merchandise. What would really help is if we had some official numbers on how well all of this stuff is doing. I imagine the first line of shirts must've sold really well, based on how we're still getting them ontop of how well they were received by fans in general. As for Official Subs, well, it's nothing concrete, but having seen TKR's' latest streams, I think they might be working on getting Gaim distributed. Not only are they doing an official giveaway of Gaim merchandise, but the recent release of the Soccer Movie, as well as one of their streams being dedicated to reviewing and discussing the show itself, makes me think they're trying. The pandemic also probably set things back by alot. TL;DR: The team is small, and they're taking baby steps in order to try and make this go over as smooth as they can. Trying a little bit of everything to see what sticks, basically. Hope this can help clear some things up! |
I get the team side of thimgs, but what’s perplexing me is Toei. I know that reaching out to a market they were unsure about before would be risky, but surely A) It’s been long enough by now to push it a bit more or at least look more professional, and B) they see how well it’s working out for their competitor, Tsupro. I’m just astounded at how little effort Toei seems to be putting into all this when Tsupro hit the field running and never really stopped.

I'm definitely a little biased but it also feels like the small decision-making team behind Team Rider is putting too much focus on Gaim. If the goal is to create new Kamen Rider fans, I think focusing on and over-adulating one of the shows that is very different from the others is a misguided approach.
Kamen Rider already struggles to differentiate itself from "Isn't that like a Power Rangers show?" and putting all your fruit in one Gaim basket, the show featuring a ton of candy color-coded riders, won't help much. Kamen Rider and Kuuga was the right first steps. They really should've gotten Zero-One on simulcast or something. I would say Saber, but it already has too many Sentai comparisons... I just think if you're brand new to Kamen Rider and Gaim is your first series, it could be jarring to explore outwards to the other shows. Like a lot of groups think Gaim is one of the best KR ever, and if you watch it and it doesn't live up to that hype, why would you bother with the other series. |

Thus, if Gaim does come over and it does well, it'd provide a good stepping stone towards getting other entries distributed. Though it would probably paint a bad picture for fans of the less popular entries(hi Fish). That said I do agree that not having a Zero-One simulcast was a huge missed opportunity. Maybe they can do that for Saber since it's still early in? |
50th Anniversary T-Shirt now available in both black and white, and features every belt in the series so far!

Oh this one looks pretty nice actually. Though it's funny to see Hibiki's belt which is essentially just a utility belt instead of his actual transformation trinket
|
So updated version later in the year with Rider 50th's belt yeah for the same amount of money yeah?

The logo shirts are pretty neat. I think Kiva is my favorite.
