Power Rangers 20th Anniversary DVD Possibility?
So I was sitting around and got to thinking. What if Saban/Shout/Toei/Whoever decided, as a way to cash in on the 20th Anniversary of Power Rangers, decided to release an officially subtitled DVD release of Zyuranger in the states?
I know it's (Extremely) unlikely, but still. I know with the subs readily available online some wouldn't buy it, but for a normal consumer spotting it, how would it go down? How well would it be received? Etc etc. (I'm not really talking many special additions or interviews or etc, just the full series on DVD for a tie in with the 20th anniversary) So, while I know it's likely to never happen, if it did, would you drop the money for it? |
They would probably dub the series but have the option for both English and Japanese... how does that sound?

Actually I could see this as a real possibility. After all Shout Factory worked out that deal with Hasbro and Takara to release Headmasters, Masterforce, and Victory subbed in the US. If the demand is there, if fans make it known they want it, then the same thing could happen for Zyuranger.

Eitherway, while I'd jump at offical US Zyuranger DVDs, there's some issues that have to be addressed. The PR DVDs are done by Shout Factory. Shout is great normally, but not with subtitles. There were tons of errors on the Transformers anime DVDs. I would prefer Shout to stay away from subbing more shows. Quote:

If I can get a legit subtitled copies of any Sentai series on DVD/BD in the US, I would buy it. Even if it was Goseiger, Gobusters, or Dynaman, I would still support the official release in hopes that it more follow.
Even if the subs aren't perfect (come on, no one does perfect subs, even Funimation messes up at times), I will still support it. As for dubbing, no, just no. Dubbing works for animation, but not live action. |
Having not seen Shout's TF DVD releases, I can't really comment on the quality.
Anyway, I guess, having been on the Sub side of the sub vs dub argument ever since I could read (Thank you, Godzilla), I never valued or saw why to include dubs. Quote:
So, what are the thoughts of perhaps an official subbed Shinkenger release alongside a PR Samurai/Super Samurai boxset? |
If this could happen, I want TOEI to either SUB or DUB a Kamen Rider series and release it here.

The video quality was pretty poor on those 3 Shout TF releases. My old Hong Kong bootlegs had higher quality video than they did. I didnt find much to complain about with the subs though. Having seen those 3 shows multiple ways I felt the Shout releases struck a decent balance.
