Kishiryu Sentai Ryuusouger Revealed
|
Yay~ Kyoryuger Recycled! :lolol
THIS. WORRIES ME. Certain parts look cool, but if I may let the pessimist in me talk, the fact that they just took all three dino teams with extra sprinkles of Go-onger for good measure and just grinded them all up to one pulp and repackaged it as another dino team? If this does not fly, I feel like the future of super sentai as a franchise and marketable product could be grim. Either this is the show that boosts the sales of super sentai and the franchise lives to tell anther tale or this ends up being the show that ended it all. That said... TO HELL WITH MY OPTIMISM FROM EARLIER ABOUT MAYBE THIS COULD BE WHAT HURRICANGER WAS TO LIVEMAN. YOU COULD HAVE SO EASILY DONE MEDIEVAL KNIGHTS AND ACTUAL DRAGONS BUT YOU RESORT TO DINOSAURS. ONE OF THEM IS NOT EVEN A DINOSAUR, IT IS A FRIGGIN SMILODON. WAS IT SO HARD TO DESIGN AT THE LEAST, BUNCH OF IGUANAS WITH BAT WINGS THAT SPIT FIRE OR ICE OR WHATEVER TOLKIEN HOCUS POCUS. KISHIRYUOH IS JUST A MASH-UP OF BAKURYU TYRANNOSAURUS AND GABUYTRA MARINATED IN THE GUTS OF RYUSEIOH AND GO-BUSTER ACE. Okay, I'm done venting. TLDR, Skeptical and worried, pissed that they missed the chance to use dragons insted of dinosaurs(which seems like a no-brainer), too obvious to deny that this is Kyoryuger recycled, but I will let it do its thing and then give my verdict next year. Suits look half-assed and nothing about them resembles knights, but hey, the helmets look cool. |
I don't know what Toe pretend this time.
|
I wouldn't say we have a dinosaur theme sentai...
We have a DinoZone theme sentai! Seriously though I think the theme is probably going to be more fossil than living dinosaur, just from how the silver is so prominent. As for Bandai/Toei playing it safe, does anyone know how far in advance PLEX starts planning? This seems like something designed to appeal to multiple markets with a special focus on North America and South Korea. Plus kids love the heck out of dinosaurs. So I could see this whole set-up being started before Hasbro bought Power Rangers as one with the North American market in mind. Honestly I like the designs, outside the ornate helmets the suits are a simple design which I enjoy. Sometimes the suits just get too busy, Kyuranger comes to mind as a recent example. I am also intrigued by the mini-knight gimmick of Ryu Souls and by the Lego like connection points on the mecha. Plus like I joked they look like DinoZone/Dinozaurs toys which I have always liked those designs. |

Even though we've seen Dinosaurs 3 times, I always like to stay optimistic whenever a new team is announced.
I do have to say, I do like the suits, but I think that it's safe to say with all the silver that we'll either have a gold 6th with the silver on the chest or a silver 6th with the silver on the torso becoming gold. Also, do dinosaurs hate yellow? It's my favorite ranger color and we are now back to the Kyoryuger colors. But whatever, maybe they're trying to recreate the success of it? I mean one of the mech combos is literally just Kyoryuzin (Gabutyra, Stegotchi, Dricera). But yeah I'm still excited! Hopefully this does well cus I don't want Sentai to get canned :) |

Again this has been my assumptions, but if someone has any resources relating to how PLEX functions I would absolutely love to read them. |

OH good Lord...
Do not make the Red Ranger a hot-blooded Daigo/Takaharu clone. I expected dragons too but it seems Toei doesn't grasp the Western Dragon form. Make the toys freaking sell, that is all. Other than that, I'm praying that it won't be a lackluster and underselling Sentai, or else, I'm done with Sentai. #WalaNaFinishNA #ThinkingInAdvance |
First reaction: Dinosaurs, again?
Second reaction: Why do I even care, I'm gonna watch it anyways, they could make Penguins a theme and I would still try it. No scratch that, I would definitely watch it if they make a Penguin theme. I just hope it's watchable. Lupat and Zyuohger weren't the best but so fun. Kyuranger was hot garbage. So if the pattern holds - carp. |
Building blocks... Why?

Really digging it can’t wait to get higher resolution pics

Let's pray that the dudes who will be working at this stuff know exactly what's at stake. I think the execs are slowly disrespecting Sentai IMO. I'm calling right now, Sentai is over if they do not know what they are doing. If they actually make it right, then Sentai gets the will to live. If not, I'm sorry. #WalaNaFinishNa |
Aw man, it really isn't dragons... I had started to look forward to that.
But the Lego part of it's kinda cool I guess? |
these reveals don't excite me as much as the previous two year's did which means the story will probably be engaging this time...hopefully so.
after the disappointment that is kyu and lupat i'm in dire need of something that i look forward to watching every week, dammit |
We could still get giant iguanas with bat wings in some upgrade form. Like they have to get pieces/parts to craft the forms... You know I am surprised Toei hasn't lifted from Monster Hunter yet.
|
Couple new bits of information:
*The "Knights" in question may refer to the dinos and not the Rangers. *Each Dinosaur has a name: Red's is "Tyramigo," Blue's is "TriKen," Pink's is "Ankyloze" Green is "TigerLance" and Black is "MyNeedle." |

I give Toei credit for at least making the designs look better than Kyoryuger. I mean the zords arn’t entirely blocks of color with a dinosaur heads slapped on them, and it looks like the toy will match what we seen on screen mire so than Sentais past, however I think they shot themselves in the foot going back to dinosaurs again. Dinosaurs sell, but cool designs top any theme. I just hope the kids aren’t tired of dinosaurs yet.
Dragons and knights as a theme has so much untapped potential, but this just seems like a minimal effort retread of past Sentai dino Sentai seasons Also what’s up with the designers using only three zords to create the Mecha again when this is clearly a five member team. Again it’s a more impressive design than what I was expecting, but I love it when five zords can combine to create a cohesive robot instead of just a triceratops glued on to the side of a T-Rex. I hope we get a yellow sixth ranger because I’m tired of gold and silver and yellow is such a staple color. If Toei was just going to copy the template of Kyoryuger they could have at least replaced pink with yellow. |
I'M just excited that Bandai has finally left clips behind for once and moved to a peg-based connection system. Hopefully this offers more durability over time.
|
I can dig it, I like these designs a lot, especially the mecha. The suits less so but i’m sure that will change when I see actual footage of them.
|
That is a lot of reused Kyoryuger assets. That T-Rex mech looks like a straight up Gabutyra remold.
|
It looks like they're reuse the same show.
|
Yeah, this looks like it blows.
|
......yeah I'm not too enthuse about this. Say what you want about the shows themselves, but Kyuranger and LuPat really did went out of box in terms of thematics and visuals for Sentai, so I was really hoping that Ryusouger would continue that trend. I guess if the rumors are true that Sentai is on it's last legs, why not try to evoke one of your best selling series in the 2010s. Of course this isn't to say anything about how Ryusouger will be, just from an aesthetic standpoint, it's not hitting me as much as Kyuranger or Lupat did. I will say the main mecha looks cool.
|
Some people say that Ryusouger could the last sentai if doesn't perform well.
|
*Bangs head against desk* Dinosaurs AGAIN? Really, Toei? You seriously couldn't come up with a dragon-themed Sentai like the name clearly implied so you went with dinosaurs for THE FOURTH TIME?
No wonder Lupinranger Vs. Patrenger isn't selling well; Toei's running out of ideas. |
Not happy with dinos again I would have like dragon theme.
|
So, those leaks were correct then, which means...
Captain Marvelous mini series Ryuusouger starts in March Ryuusouger will be the last Sentai if it doesn't perform to at least ToQger levels. I like the designs but they look very, very safe. There's hints of older Sentai everywhere. Dekaranger, Kyoryuger, Abaranger, Gekiranger, Gokaiger. Probably more I'm missing. This is really going to be the safest attempt at a success Bandai's ever done with Sentai and that's a shame. With Jetman they tried a brand new theme, Kyoryuger was the total opposite of Go-Busters, and now we've got...something that just feels so coordinated that it feels like a mess. Quote:
Also it's Bandai that decides the themes, not Toei. |
Cool! Looks fun!
Kind glad dragons are pushed back for now. Those concepts were definitely not ready to go forward yet. But the new locking system is a definite plus, and going to lead to some interesting toys. And some very curious potential on the extra ranger later. Not too surprising they went dinosaurs either with the Hasbro purchase. That's usually the go to "new era" start over theme. |
Mecha looks pretty cool but otherwise it’s one big meh from me. I’ll give it a shot, but honestly as long as they keep making the Space Squad movies that’s all the Super Sentai I’ll need.
|
I'm pretty confident Hasbro was not involved in this decision; Toei just cares about their own sales.
|
Kind of curious on the measurements of the new locking system.
Quote:
Bandai Japan is the one that cares about domestic sales. Toei cares about licensing. Two different things. Toei does care about Hasbro because abroad licensing is money in their pocket. The system is a little more complicated than what you seem to think it is. Revenue sources are a more scattered thing per area. Toei makes bank off of the various abroad markets too. That's why they global outreach their properties. Won't be the last Sentai either. Though they may take a break for a year depending on factors. But they're still prepping other material for later. I think people need to cool their jets a bit on overreactions. Lets wait and see how the material does. This was the last batch of other material. Newer material is still on the way after it. But certain outlets and areas did need the design rest for a bit for other things to get restructured first. With literally the 50th of sentai around the corner, the 30th for Zyu, let's not start this entire "The sky is falling, the sky is falling, everything sucks!" shtick. It's not healthy. |
I'm always on board for whatever the new Sentai is. This one is no exception. I would have loved dragons instead of dinosaurs, the zords don't really stand out to me, but the suits are alright. My favorite part of this is the helmets. They're really cool at first glance. Crossing my fingers a bit that Power Rangers doesn't adapt this one right away.
|
This is...awkward!
I hate to see Toei and Bandai struggling like this! I'll admit, there are some good ideas with the designs, but this feels uncertain. It's clear that they are banking on a tried-and-true theme to pull themselves out of the fire, but this feels like a "make-it-good-or-take-the-money-and-make-a-break-for-goodness-sake" kinda move! It's too high a gamble to assume that a successful theme will pull them out of the fire! The idea that Sentai could just...END is a little frightening!!! This needs support even if it's just a flaming turd! Who cares? Love it enough so they can find themselves again! If this bombs, what happens? Total erasure of the franchise? Toei breaks with Bandai and goes to Takara for designs and ideas? Toei and Bandai stop coming-up with ideas and wait for Hasbro to do something ingenious with P.R. and wait to port that over instead, thereby reversing over 25 years of standard practice!?!? |
Is it just me or does the Triceratops zord here look like the from the Power Rangers movie.
|
I think you people have your worries reversed. Either this show really goes against the mold and surprise us, but also causes Sentai to go on a break for a bit. Or it sticks to as tried-and-true to formula as possible to make an unremarkable show, but ensuring that Sentai keeps going on.
It's my own selfishness that wishes for the former, as someone who really enjoyed the ambitions that Kyuranger and LuPat had, despite the flaws both those shows have. Wouldn't it just be more exciting or cooler in the long run to see how Sentai would come back after being quiet for a while, like the the beginning of Heisei Riders or New Generation Ultraman? Well, it's just a fantasy in my head for now. |
Wow. I hope to god Hasbro gets to exert some influence, sooner rather than later. Super Sentai desperately needs some new ideas.
