Power Rangers Super Ninja Steel Episode 10- "DIMENSIONS IN DANGER!" Discussion
Celebrating 25 YEARS of colorful adventures, heroes from across the Grid unite to save the world.
Airs in PRIMETIME, 8PM EST! |
Ok. I agree with Brody.
That was epic! |
First episode I've seen since Dino Thunder and I thought it was amazing. Such an epic episode.
|
Ok I had goosebumps when Tommy morphed into all his Ranger forms to fight his evil clone and then Falconzord was used to kill Draven
|
Tommy's Master Morpher was pretty cool and seeing him use all of his Ranger forms (minus Turbo) to take down his clone was fantastic. This entire episode was way better than Legendary Battle and had a great premise to it, even though there are things left unaddressed. Overall though, it was a great episode worthy of the 25th anniversary of Power Rangers.
|
They're fighting against time and want to incorporate the ninja steel team as the center heroes and heroines make things worst. For a prime time release, you expect a one hour special that cater to the older fans, but we're getting speed up one liners one after another along with all those annoying catchphrases. It's still an A compares to the rest of recent neo Saban era episodes I've seen. I don't know if jdf improv some of his lines, but it makes him egoistic as heck.
|
It's great to finally have a good anniversary special, we haven't had one of those in forever...
The ending gave me a rush of emotion honestly. |
So I guess this makes Soul of the Dragon canon now huh?

To hell with that, master morpher FTW. |
That was... pretty embarrassing to watch. It's consistent with Ninja Steel's generally bad writing but it still made me groan every two seconds. The themes are all over the place and the degree to which they knocked off from Shattered Grid is blatantly unsubtle. Weird continuity notes are dropped with no regard for how it works with the story or the characters we've followed and the script never manages to match up with the visuals. 'Lord Drayven' has apparently got enough footsoldiers to invade every universe, but a team of 16 Ranges is able to take care of it no problem. They make a robot Tommy and then go nowhere with it other than a very odd Dino Thunder Black vs. Tommy fight which had a lot of confused messages and conflicting themes to the point you can't decipher even any basic meaning from it. As always it's extraordinarily empty and hollow.
I will admit that it was pretty nice to see they apparently have the budget now to do their own CGI Zords and giant fights, and I'm pretty sure I noticed no Ninninger footage in the episode. That alone is an impressive feat, but it's not used for anything worthwhile. Power Rangers has used stock footage before to tell much better stories; if this sort of episode is all new footage amounts to, then it's ultimately pointless. I really hope Hasbro gets in some decent writers because this is getting really, really unbearable. RPM was almost 10 years ago and we've had nothing good since. |

Has it gotten better? In certain ways. But yeah. Edit, never mind. Just found/watched. Wow....it's called what happens when the Wesley Crusher of PR comes back and makes everyone look like they're asleep. Because someone really REALLY likes JDF in the writers pit. Solid 3/10 just due to the fact that it was way too quick. But hey, new toy on the horizon with a master morpher. Really makes me wistful that they would release a complete selection type of morpher with all the clips. |
The cringe-worthiness from the last four years or so is definitely there, but comparing this episode to something like say...Super Megaforce it's like trying to compare apples and oranges.
If nothing else, you can tell that they actually put effort into this episode. And when they actually put effort into something. |
Given what a nightmare it must've been to put this together with all of the hasbro/saban transitional stuff, I'm really glad with what they put together. I really liked Lord Draven as a villain too.
The best part, however, was making the comic books canonical to the TV shows too. |

Was this episode better at "tickling the nostalgia funny bone better than Super Megaforce"? Yes! Are there continuity discrepancies similar to "Forever Red"? Yes! Should any discrepancies be frowned upon or viewed as potential story material in the future? You decide! Does Neo-Saban have writing issues? Yes! Does "Robo-Tommy" get a little cringe-worthy with his "evilness"? Yes! Did Lord Draven make a lot of sense in his planning? Best Answer in the form of question: Does any villain ever make any sense? Were the production values and visuals a key part of why this worked? Yes! Does the concept of a "Master Morpher" make for a good addition to P.R. Arsenal Concepts and a good toy concept worth exploring in the future? Most definitely! Was the battle against the "Robo-Ranger Clones" slightly more fulfilling than "Legendary Battle"? Best Answer in the form of a question: Why would you even ask that? Should the Sudarso Brothers have had more time together? Yes! Should this have been longer in length so that wouldn't have to shove too much in a short amount of time? Yes, and that might a good reason for most of the complaints! Do I think they used Ninninger Movie footage since they used the Ninninger Movie villain? Yes! Am I upset that Dinomaru was not adapted? Kinda! Do I think that the Falconzord was a good callback? YYYEEESSS!!!!!!!! Is this the second-time that the Falconzord has appeared in CGI since the OG Movie? Yeah, I think so! Despite its participation in the battle against Hate Master and Hydro Hog, is this the first time, in 23 years (since Season 3), that the Falconzord, with additional Ranger but no additional Zord assistance, directly destroyed a monster/villain onscreen? Yeah, I think so! Was Tommy a very central character to this event? Yes, but you kinda should've expected that! Is J.J. the same as the son at the end of the Zeo Holiday Episode? Only time will tell! Why were Draven and "Robo-Tommy" at his house with no sign of J.J.? No good answers! If Tommy has a "Master Morpher", do other Rangers who have used multiple powers have something similar? Good question for future stories! Was I as giddy as a clam when this first aired and getting loud enough to attract attention from other people? Yep!!! Do I agree with Brody about it being "epic"? Yep!!! Do I want T.J.'s line about being familiar with Lord Draven to be explored in the future, possibly involving a necessary ret-con? Yep!!! Have I made this commentary unnecessarily long? Also yep!!! |
Quote:
Do I think that the Falconzord was chosen because "Ninja Steel" is a ninja-themed Ranger Team and the Falconzord is a nod to the ninja-theme of the Ninjazords? Yep!!! Do I view the Tommy vs. "Robo-Tommy" as a nod to Gavan vs. Gavan Bootleg from the Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger vs. Uchuu Keiji Gavan Movie? Yep!!! |

Tommy Oliver should as of this year change his name to Tommy Kadoya, get himself a personal Narutaki to yell ONORE TOMMMMMMYYYYYYY every time he does something, and repaint his green ranger suit Magenta. He has gone Decade. :lolol

Tommy specifically though has 4 forms that were never shared with any other person to replace him. T.J. took over at Turbo and Dino Thunder was Tommy's exclusively. So he's unique in the fact he has more 'only him' powers than others. Jason's Gold Ranger power went back to Trey of Triforia, so Jason should only have the original powers now again. Leaving only the other replacements up to In Space with more than one, and also Megaforce/Super Megaforce. Everyone else has only one. So the majority don't need a 'master morpher'. Kat's one of the few that might since she went from MMPR to Turbo too. But mostly it's only those that have 3 or more exclusively only them suits that would need one. Not many other than Tommy fit that. Everyone else got replaced once they hit the 3 suit mark. Quote:

Holy hell, that sucked.
I know it was just a normal 22 minute episode, but jesus...Half the returning cast literally got one or two lines... They couldn't even revamp the morphing sequences like they did with Adam in Once a Ranger? Like, the morphing sequence and climax were literally the only two things I was excited to see since I knew with a 20 minute run time they wouldn't have any time to tell an interesting story... The returning rangers didn't get a chance to shine and milk any nostalgia. It was just another Ninja Steel episode... Tommy's master morpher is neat, and learning that he apparently has a family is cool. I like that they also firmly established a multiverse, so stuff like Dino Charge's ending won't be completely and utterly baffling. I also liked the return of the Falconzord. It seems to confirm that the Ninja Megazord wasn't scrapped. (Although Trent's Drago Zord wasn't destroyed in DT, so he could've totally done it, but I guess that would mean not letting Tommy save the day) This was a mess and I didn't like it. Everything was rushed, the past rangers were hardly relevant sans Tommy, and even the climax against the evil ranger army was a complete bore. |
This episode is supposed to be an anniversary episode but it feels like a normal episode. It doesn't make me feel nostalgic even though the past rangers are there and it's just too short. It kinda reminds me of Zyuohger's anniversary episode when the Gokaigers were back and that episode is way better than this one.

Our media sticks to the comics for now and we'll be getting better toys. But give Hasbro some time to get situated in the new acquisition and we may have more material coming for older fans around or after the next movie. Like I've said before, don't expect any major overhauls on Power Rangers until at least after Beast Morphers. With likely full impact of the acquisition starting in the series after the series after Beast Morphers. Right now it's still mostly the carryovers from Saban handling stuff though now they have new bosses. So right now: Beast Morphers. Next series - Likely Kyu footage using series. Hasbro full acquisition impacted series. - Toei hasn't made this series yet. |
You know, I actually like the fact that we get to see Rocky again. Sure, most doesn't like him when he's the Red Ranger, but I love him. And it's amazing that he's somewhat of a second-in-command (or third?) during the battle.
I hope we get an extended edition or something, because you can tell Trent is massively ignored and didn't have his own fight scenes IIRC. Also, I realized TJ is the unsung hero when it comes to anniversaries, since he's the only guy other than Tommy to appear in 3 anniversary specials. |
Quote:
I just hope the writing is solid. I really can't wait for Hasbro's handling since they seem to have so much faith on the franchise. |
I thought beast morphers was chosen in part by Hasbro. I mean why else was it skipped originally? So does Kat appearing as Turbo have any implication that she was Turbo during the Legendary war?
|
Ok, that was....very subpar. Once again, we bring back all these Rangers just to have a sizeable number of them not getting much lines, not allowing some to be in-character (SO bummed they didn't have BOOM-BOOM! Gemma), and have a group fight that comes and goes so quickly....Don't get me wrong, this wasn't TERRIBLE perse, but....SIGH, I'm SO tired of seeing Power Rangers not being at the level it should be at this point in terms of production. Someone earlier mentioned how this was Saban actually putting effort into Ninja Steel for once....Well if THIS is their "putting effort," then I say GOOD RIDDANCE.
Now, I will say, as much as I hated the Tommy bias this Episode....DAT TOMMY FIGHT WAS AMAZING, and definitely the best thing of this episode! |

But during the transition to under Hasbro, a lot of Saban people came with the acquisition to help in the transition. So they'll still be handling Power Rangers for Beast Morphers and for likely the series after. With then whatever comes after that, being where any real shake up may happen. So while the Saban carryovers will have more freedom now, and less limitations because of the new bosses, any massive changes other than that won't really be felt for at least 2 more series. It'll gradually do an upswing though as the limitations Saban used as opposed to Hasbro will make some differences. So beast morphers should be good, but the one after will be better, and then the one after that we'll feel the full impact of the Hasbro acquisition. That being said, this anniversary episode is essentially an episode of Ninja Steel. Though they could have done it as an hour two parter aired on one night, they had to keep to confines of Ninja Steel itself as it is their show and will be included on that series sets for digital and home media. |

Saying that a Power Rangers episode is cringy is like saying that water is wet
The actual crime of this episode is that Drayvon isn't a classic villain, since he basically has no reason to be here, especially with the episode using no Ninninger footage. C'mon, there is a new Goldar suit ready for you to use, use it already! |
If Kat was kidnapped, and Kat is JJ's mom, then why wasn't Tommy already looking for her?
And if Kat was captured when they went to get Tommy, doesn't that mean he turned invisible and abandoned her to get captured? Are we sure this Kat isn't an alternate world Kat? One where she never gave up her Turbo morpher to her successor? Also, while I like the Master Morpher, most past rangers don't really need it. MMPR to in space were the only ones that had carry over actors, and most of them gave up their morphers to their successors. So really, only MMPR to Zeo have more than one. Though Kat having a Turbo morpher throws that completely sideways too. |
I think this episode was far better than season 1 of ninja steel and first half of season 2. Maybe the writing will get better hear on out. I wish it was longer so they can clear up confusions and fill in missed opportunities etc. thanks tokunation for this review

This episode was pretty good, yeah. There actually is a lot of Ninninger footage used around the middle period, but I still wish Drayvon was someone more meaningful than just a random asshole. Also, its always bizarre to see Ninninger goofiness in Power Rangers.
In comparison to Legendary Battle, there were no moments here that felt absolutely insulting. Obviously getting more scenes for each of the Rangers would be great, but at least they got to do anything that wasn't in stock footage and they also didn't use the GODDAMN MASKMAN FINISHER TO BEAT THE VILLAIN But they did their best on a limited time and budget, and I'd rather take something that's short, okay, and original over 40 minutes of butchering the best finale of a television series ever under the guise of an anniversary celebration. Also seeing AbareBlack again is super good i love him |

Loved it.
But is JJ Kats son all so? Are Kat & Tommy married? Why was Turbo pasted over in the Master Morpher? Other then all that. I Loved the 25th. May be JJ will be in Beast Morhers? |
