The term ranger
Why the ranger term is not used ?
|
They just prefer using the prefix followed by the color most of the time. But you notice looking at the sentai names that even though the Japanese coined the term "ranger" since pretty much the beginning it didn't become permanent until PR came out. From then on the majority of sentai has had "ranger" or "-ger" in their squad titles.

Ranger or sometimes "renger" has been in use since Goranger in 1975. There's a gap from '75 with Goranger until 1989 when the term was used again for Turboranger, then again 3 years later for Zyuranger.
So the term has been in use WELL before Power Rangers made it a thing. Though not as frequently. The term being used in Power Rangers comes from Ranger being used in the Zyuranger source material. NOT the other way around. The majority of teams since then having Ranger or "ger" in their name could possibly have been a reverse influence of power rangers but in all honesty it's easier to just name teams that way too. In any case the shows that use the term "ranger" or the shortened root of the word for team names are: Full Ranger Goranger Turboranger Zyuranger Dairanger Kakuranger Ohranger Carranger Megaranger Timeranger Hurricanger Abaranger Dekaranger Magiranger Gekiranger Suffix only Boukenger Go-Onger Shinkenger Goseiger Gokaiger Kyoryuger ToQger Frankly the term ranger is extrememly stale with names. I wish they'd move past even using the "ger" on the end of names and do truly creative stuff again like Gingaman, GoGoV, Dynaman, Battle Fever, etc. |
Well if we are a bit nitpicky about stuff then the first time Super Sentai used the term Ranger was in 1989 with Turboranger. Gorenger wasnt part of the super sentai franchise until the mid 90s. It influenced the franchise yes but until then the first Super Sentai was still Battle Fever :lol
And I´m with you on the matter of the names getting stale after a while. Go-Busters was a nice change of pace from the tired name gimmick and I would like Sentai tot ry more creative names. |
I'm curious if we'll ever see another "-Man" Sentai again...

I doubt it as well but it would be awesome if we got something like that again.

I'm not a huge fan of the -man suffix (I dunno, I just don't think it works for a team) but I agree we need a break from 'ranger'. Something along the lines of GoGo Five again would be nice.

It would be nice to get a series that isn't a ranger or -ger series.
Go-Busters was a nice start, though. Maybe we'll get another Sun Vulcan, with a name that's completely out there~ |
