https://youtu.be/Q-C4qqsgs8w?t=72 "Damn, dude!" I'm sure there's more, but I doubt it'll be overtly offensive stuff. |
Krampus was rated PG-13 and that had blood and gore.

Who said this movie was going to be rated PG-13 anyway?

G, it was the tamest of them all, still is. PG, it was pushing boundaries even after the invention of PG-13 in 1984. (Example: Beetlejuice saying "Fuckin' " and of course, Tom Hanks's BIG.) PG-13 was edgier, but was no R. R was edgy and pushed boundaries and helped usher in NC-17, which wasn't always about sexual content. The Evil Dead would've been NC-17 if it had been released during that time. The unrated director's cut of Robocop would've been NC-17. (Murphy's execution is incredibly brutal compared to the R cut.) PG pushes no boundaries, but it does force the filmmakers to produce quality material to get people to the theater to pay for a PG film these days. (Disney's and Kenneth Brannagh's live action remake of Cinderella comes to mind. Heck, even Disney's Enchanted proved the concept of quality PG entertainment a decade ago.) PG-13 has become the R of yesteryear, starting in the mid to late 90s. You can have three uses of "Fuck" before it becomes an R, regardless of the other content in the film. You can have a steady stream of violence, especially sci-fi and bloody. Heck, one of the Predator films was PG-13 and pulled off a chestburster if I remember correctly. R is now reserved for ribald entertainment such as Deadpool and artsy films that have a penchant for being unflinching in their honesty and dark materials. It's kind of watered down over the years. (Heck, I've seen worse TV-14/TV-MA material that makes R look a bit timid these days.) NC-17 is now reserved for ultra violence (and I do mean ultra) as well as nearly XXX rated sexual content. (Nymphomaniac Volumes I and II, for example.) I'm not the least bit surprised PR is getting a PG-13 rating, it's pretty much the sweet spot for movies these days. |
