Only 2 minutes in but I'm impressed they remembered that the "BEST MATCH" sound was added by Sento so his dad's driver doesn't say it

It seems like Evolt has a feeling that dad was going to lose on purpose. Maybe to power Sento up to hazard level 7 which might be the level it will take to defeat Evolt which is what Evolt did as Blood Stalk to raise Banjo's level up so that he could transform into Evolt.
How can next week's episode be called, "The end of Evolt" and still have 5 more episodes after that? Even if Sento's dad is bad, 5 more episodes of him being the big bad seems like that's really stretching it out. |
Vernage left the bracelet and went in to Banjo, so Banjo will be doing the impression now or she's gone and what's left of her is fighting the evolt's DNA. Kind of like the pearl of inuyasha if she's fighting for control. What's the plan to help Sento? It's like Evolt coming up with random plans while these episodes are trying to build up the movie is taking a chunk of the last arc.

Really liked this episode -- glad they didn't go the redemption route as Kamen Rider likes to do.
Bit of a weak explanation for why Shinobu can match the Sclash drivers and Genius/Magma, though. "It was made for me, so I'm the best user of it"...? I GUESS he'd know the specifics better than anyone else, but it seems very weak especially with how well acquainted Sento was with the belt and just how easily we saw the likes of Rogue overpower even Hazard form. I'm just gonna assumed the Hazard Level has something to do with it and leave it at that. |
When did Misora's stuffed bunny have babies?
Would've been nice to see Shinobu's PhoenixTank form. |
Good episode, I liked the T-Shirts gag. "How long have you been wearing that?"
Good story, good fighting, and lots of Misora and a funny Sawa moment, (w/ the pillow, and with her yelling at Rogue for using a T-shirt and not words.) It definitely feels like the show is spiraling towards a conclusion. I don't get how the next episode is advertised as the end of Evolt, though. |
Yeah, I agree with what others say, that this arc feels like a holding pattern. Like the writers did too much too soon and had to stall until the final arc, plus the toys are selling well enough to need more bottles to sell, so they settled on this as a stalling tactic.
I should point out that they specifically said early in the series that the Rider System is able to grow in power along with its user which makes it different from the trainer system that Blood Stalk and Night Rogue used. If Sento's dad has been using it for many years, than that would be a better explanation. It's not the one they went with, but it would have worked better. In spite of the stalled story, the characters are still written well and there are some great moments there. Banjo may just be the best secondary rider yet. |
Banjou has been the best secondary rider before he even became one in my opinion.
Banjou is just fantastic. |

On the whole, I liked this episode. I'm glad we aren't getting multiple weeks of Sento stressing over fighting his dad. I feel like a lesser show would have stretched that out a lot longer instead of resolving it without too much melodrama. It led to a good Sento/Banjou bro moment (broment?), too, and I'm always a sucker for a good Sentou/Banjou broment. |
The treo most interesting things in this episode were Gwntoki's shirts (or more specifically, everyone else's reactions to the shirts) and Sento teansferring Vernage into Ryuuga to counter Evolt's genetic effects.
The rest of the episode was mediocre, so much so that I didn't even notice that they came up with a new SMASH design for her. |
I love how the solution to the fight just boiled down to, "Let's punt Vernage into Ryuga to save everyone today."
Also I feel like we were scammed, in that we didn't get to see Phoenix Tank at the end. |
I thought that was funny, like he kicked her so hard he knocked the Vernage out of her.

Finally back after not commenting for the last 10 or so episodes for some reason.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- To the biggest problem with this arc is that I like several elements of it, but the whole thing doesn't click with me. - The twist is alright, but should've been placed earlier in the show like back when Ryuga was revealed to be a genetic piece of Evolt and Katsuragi Shinobu is first hinted at having something to do with the main plot. - The idea of Evolt collecting the Lost Bottles to achieve a power beyond his current final form is really interesting, but has little weight so far because the heroes don't know what he's planning and thus aren't showing as much concern as they should. - Shinobu's preference for the agility as NinninComic in contrast to his son's choice of GorillaMond, and other small details that his driver not including the "Best Match!" identifier sound are all really nice, but they don't outweigh the issue of his character itself being introduced so suddenly in the last stretch of the series. - Sento being devoted to find his dad only to go into shock when Shinobu is working with Evolt, is a neat call back to when they suggested Katsuragi Takumi created Faust because he was so focused in on creating the Rider System he lost sight of everything else, and it's consistent with him recently regaining all Takumi's memories and consciousness. |
Main thing that concerned me most is completion of lost panel and lost bottles which will catalyze this series huge change towards summer movie.
|
Here is an idea, what if the show ends badly where the heroes lose and the villains win? I mean how else do you plan on connecting this to the movie in a way that would make sense?

By defeating the immediate threat but not directly tackling the system that allowed such a threat to grow and flourish to the point it did in the first place; ie a corrupt government, a greedy group of arms dealers and general selfish nature of a lot of humanity
That's kind of Evolt's whole thing right now despite being an extraterrestrial |
Hey Build, I know the last few episodes have been a little rough, but how about this week?
https://i.imgur.com/PpcrBqX.jpg Well, I think so anyway. This episode wasn't the best of the series or anything but it was definitely very good, and I don't have a single complaint. Well, except for that I just noticed Cross-Z Charge is still in the OP for some reason. But between executing Gentoku's T-shirt gags in a way that was genuinely hilarious AND didn't kill the tone (it's all in the timing), epic pre-transformation banter between everyone's favorite Best Match Duo (I honestly get a little upset every time I see Ryuuga hanging out with Kazumi), Build having to think his way through a fight beyond just smacking people, and the general feeling that the show wasn't biting off more than it could chew, I'd chalk this episode up as a big win. I'd imagine things are only going to get better from here, too. |

Either way, god yes; I think you've nailed down why I really liked this episode. I smiled so much when Ryuuga arrived to help out Sento and give him the words he needed -- and man, those words. I adore the message that it doesn't matter where your origins lie; it doesn't matter if your heritage and past is stained in blood and bad intentions, you are still capable of moving forward and do better than that. Build's been great with that in general especially with the Takumi stuff, and it's why the first RabbitRabbit transformation is one of my favourite scenes in the show so far. |
Also I always see people criticize Build for having ANOTHER evil dad but it's so painfully obvious he's not a villain by choice, Katsuragi and Sento outright say he's doing it with guilt and the things Shinobu says are so blatantly "C'MON SON GET STRONGER KICK THIS ALIEN SON OF A BITCH"
|
I agree it does give that impression.

I'm late, I'm late! I just watched the last 2 episodes back to back, and I thought both were really good. I liked how Sento basically just smacked Vernage into Banjou to resolve 2 problems at once. If Vernage doesn't now talk through Banjou at some point I will be very disappointed. I am also convinced that the Build movie is lying to me, because there is NO way all 4 of our main Riders are surviving this show. It's just a ploy to make me put my guard down! A lot of people think that Katsuragi's father will become the final villain in order to fill up the last few episodes, but I am convinced that Utsumi will end up as the real final villain, I've thought it for a long time now. Katsuragi's dad will probably get taken out by Evolt or Utsumi or somebody.

I haven't been on the boards in a while but I like Build so I will post this:
Build peaked at episode 22. God every episode was perfect till that point. Now they are just retreading the same plot points and character moments over and over again. Watching episode 43 was like watching episode 16 or 27 again. The first arc, with Sento trying to find out the mystery behind his lost memories and Blood Stalk turning up as the traitor, was so tightly-woven together, so well-paced and clever that even when the obvious twists turned up, it felt tremendous to see it come together. Now we have stuff coming out of nowhere to pad for time like the Lost Bottles and Sento's dad being alive. I mean just 8 episodes ago the stakes were the highest they've ever been with the box being opened and the tower being formed. Why was that not the turning point? Instead we have weird moments like Utsumi turning bad for no discernible reason and Sento becoming Katsuragi for a total of 20 minutes to give us the illusion that something is happening when it really isn't. I mean I could be all wrong. By the end of the series it could all tie in together in a really clever and satisfying way. I just hope the last few episodes aren't a sign of what is to come, because if they are, Build will have gone from my favourite Rider series to only managing to squeeze into the top 10. That being said, its still a good show. There are good moments in this episode too. Sento and Ryuga's bromance is amazing and the solution to the Vernage and Banjo problems was cool. The suits are all mighty fine and I will never stop loving Cross-Z. |
Yea, one underratted critique I have of Build's recent Episodes is, honestly the Episodes leading up to Genius Form aren't all that interesting. I mean, Katsuragi taking over Sento's body SHOULD'VE been a big deal, but in all honesty, him building the Genius Fullbottle & then not being able to use HIS OWN INVENTION never made sense to me. And Sento coming back wasn't hard or anything, it was just "You can have it back now." Kinda lackluster if you ask me.
...And yes, I know this sounds like derailing, and it kinda is, but this is related to how Build's stakes were back then compared to now. |

Okay, as much as I agree that Build hasn't been at the top of its game in a while, there's a couple complaints I keep seeing raised that I'd like to take the time to clear up. With helpful screenshots to hopefully prevent me being told I'm imagining things:
"WTF Utsumi joining Evolt makes no sense!" Alright, so bear with me here. You're a guy who's been brainwashed from your youth to be exceedingly loyal to this guy: https://i.imgur.com/kQTJXcz.jpg Your entire life has revolved around subservience, and a sense that you aren't in control of your own destiny: https://i.imgur.com/IG8aQyn.jpg One day, some crazy alien dude comes along and unleashes seemingly unstoppable power, threatening to destroy the world. This kind of bites, because you live there. You team up with your former enemies in a last ditch effort to stop him. It doesn't go well, and the guy you've been raised to believe is the only authority that matters is killed so casually it seems clear nothing you or anybody else can do will ever stop the crazy alien dude: https://i.imgur.com/zmtTOvC.jpg Your entire world as you know it has been completely destroyed in the span of about a day. Everything you thought you knew was wrong, and the planet's gone to s***. You start to get the feeling all of humanity are mere puppets for this crazy alien dude to play with as he sees fit. So, finding yourself in this situation, WHAT DO YOU DO??? https://i.imgur.com/Cpv0c4N.jpg Under that much pressure, it wouldn't be surprising if you just... snapped. https://i.imgur.com/Oew2PjC.jpg You might become embittered: https://i.imgur.com/RtGCd5m.jpg Maybe a little bit angry: https://i.imgur.com/Opob8pB.jpg You might even go a bit... mad: https://i.imgur.com/ZEvvmab.jpg "WTF Katsuragi coming back didn't change anything! Totally pointless!" Takumi Katsuragi and Sento Kiryuu are the same person. I know this is obvious but it's important to understand the gravity of that. It's also important to note that Katsuragi isn't actually some kind of villain. When his personality and memories resurfaced, he spent two entire episodes running around, giving plenty of time to flesh out his character. We saw that most of Sento's ticks actually come from him, and just like Sento, the burden of his actions weighs pretty heavily on him: https://i.imgur.com/YJgA6Ni.jpg In other words, he IS Sento. But there is one big difference: https://i.imgur.com/wbW53W2.jpg https://i.imgur.com/hfyq2EN.jpg https://i.imgur.com/uSTwCDB.jpg So, if you were Katsuragi, and you'd seen directly the catastrophic results of your own actions, knowing full well that much of what's going wrong can be traced back to your failures: https://i.imgur.com/iHn0BlB.jpg Maybe you would consider a different approach? Maybe let the version of you that can do the things you can't do, the one that inspires faith in the people around him, give things a shot?: https://i.imgur.com/0GOvqZU.jpg https://i.imgur.com/o9lHHk8.jpg You'll also note that since Sento came back, he's explicitly stated he remembers most of his old life now, and appropriately doesn't treat it with the same kind of detachment he used to: https://i.imgur.com/UdZ0qeY.jpg This is on top of the even more glaring long-term effect of him holding conversations with Katsuragi now. Who is him. Because they're the same person. I'm just not sure I understand what anyone wanted out of this plotline. For them to drag it out longer? Because that was the whole reason the story leading up to Katsuragi coming back felt so limp. I just can't see any other way for it to go that would make any sense. |
