Figure-Rise Standard (Kamen Rider) News & Discussion Thread
There's no particularly convenient place to discuss these, and they seem to be gaining a lot more traction and a little bit more popularity recently; so hey, why not!
Figure-Rise Standard is a model kit series that among it other lines such as DBZ, Gundam and a couple Ultraman figures; has their own line of Kamen Rider figures and has only made more and more as time has gone on. While these are model kits and hence their quality and heft is far below your usual action figure, a big draw of these is that they are 1/12 (6') scale figures that come with many accessories and even without paint, are extremely well-detailed and coloured -- and at a relatively small price point with each hovering around 3000 yen. This makes them very attractive alternatives for some to their respective SHFs, which are very expensive at retail and only get more expensive on the aftermarket. The line started out as Figure-Rise 6 a few years back with just Faiz, Kabuto and a couple recolours in Faiz Accel and Dark Kabuto. Around 2017 the line rebranded itself as 'Figure-Rise Standard' and released updated versions of Kabuto and Faiz alongside Build. Since then the line's focus has been on the main Heisei Riders with recent releases including Kuuga and Den-O, though they've also branched out into Premium Bandai-exclusive recolours such as Kuuga Amazing Mighty and Genm! So... yeah! Throw in your own thoughts on the line if you like. Are they satisfying figures to you? Has anyone got them in lieu of the SHFs? Is there anyone you'd like to see next? |
It really bums me out that Build is not the same scale as all the others. He is slightly smaler than the others. Build was the first release in the re-invented line and it shows.
As someone who mostly poses a figure once and then puts it on display, the figure-rise line is my preferred option over the Figuarts. Being able to paint them is a bonus too! I look forward to seeing all 20 main riders (and maybe some Showa). And because Build is a favorite of mine, I hope he is revisited. |
They're good kits. If the Seihous are too expensive for anyone who wants them, the Figure-Rise line actually does make a good alternative.

Here are some photos of my completed kits.
Kabuto and Faiz are simply amazing. With a little paint detail, they look incredible for their cost. https://i.imgur.com/4zbbKu8.jpg Very posable! https://i.imgur.com/HpBz4uw.jpg All the currently released kits except Kuuga because of COVID delays :( https://i.imgur.com/iIpO9pp.jpg A few notes: Zi-O's joints are not the best. They look good but they have the lowest articulation. Ex-Aid is excellent with great use of clear parts. You're gonna want to paint him though. W's green color is not my favorite. I also think his proportions are a little off (likely due to his splitting gimmick). He feels bigger and wider than the rest. |
Nice job painting those up dude!
Also on the note of W, were I to ever decide to get figures of him, I actually would opt for the kits over the Seihous, since the Kits actually support the swap gimmick(plus it'd be the only way to get my favorite combos). |
I've been so tempted to get some, notably Kabuto, Faiz, and upcoming Hibiki. I just worry...they're decently taller than my Figuarts, would it look weird?
Even if they are taller though, I NEED Joker. |

Hmmm. May need to give one a try. Thanks!
Would you recommend Faiz or Kabuto to start with? |

Below is a comparison of Figure-Rise Ex-Aid; OOO Combo Change Shauta; SHF Seihou Shinkocchou OOO TaToBa; and SHF Build RabbitRabbit. As you can see, Ex-Aid is just very slightly taller and looks a little odd if you look at it too long; but ultimately it's not too bad. How awkward it is will definitely depend on who you display with who and how much the knees are bent and etc, but it's workable! https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachmen...0/IMG_0067.jpg ... buuuut, as said above; if you're more into dynamic posing than just having them stand their full height, then it's hardly an issue at all! Here's my little Heisei Generations Final storming-Foundation-X squad, and the size differences are completely irrelevant for what I'm going for in the poses. If this is your sort of thing, I'd say go for it! https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachmen...5/IMG_0194.jpg Also, did not expect this thread to take off as much as it did! Thank you especially to ShiShi for your amazing pictures as usual; love the paint apps! |

That's actually perfect. A lot of my Riders would be in more crouching/action poses , so this should work really well.
Thank you both! And thank you for the recommendation! |
Oh, man! I'm so excited this thread exists!
One of the few bright spots of the quarantine has been time to get through my Figure-Rise backlog. I'd done a Build kit a year ago, and had been buying other kits with zero time to put them together. Now: https://challengerscomics.com/images...o/IMG_2483.jpg https://challengerscomics.com/images...o/IMG_2484.jpg All caught up! (Now I've just got a half-dozen Furai Transformer kits to work on...) I really like these kits. They only take about 90 minutes to put together, they look great with the molded plastic and stickers (and can obviously look way better with paint and markers), and the price is dirt-cheap for the quality you get. The poseability is on par with Figuarts for a fraction of the price. And, skill level-wise, they're pretty forgiving. I'm not the most dextrous person alive, and I'm usually pretty happy with the results of these figs. Some thoughts! If you're looking to get started, I'd recommend any of the Double kits. There aren't a ton of stickers, and the construction is pretty basic. It's a great tutorial on how these kits operate. Plus, they're still easy enough to find. I really did not enjoy the Kabuto kit. It's a lot more flexible ABS plastic in the joints, which can be a chore to get wedged into the sockets. If any piece of the kit isn't completely in place, you're going to have problems, and most of my ABS experience is that it doesn't want to be completely in place. I also found the looping stickers on the arms to be a hassle. Ex-Aid, despite all of the black stickers on the torso and legs, that thing was a delight to put together. Real satisfying experience. The Zi-O and Geiz kits are pretty straight-forward, but the black decals on the mask are both a super-important detail that looks good, and an anxiety-inducing nightmare to apply. Weirdly complex, at least for me. Those I all did fairly recently, so they're fresh in my mind, and I don't really remember my experience with Build. It... must've been good? I mean, I bought another seven kits (and ordered more that haven't arrived), so I guess I had a good time with it? These kits are really great. I'm glad to have a place to talk about them! Thanks, Kurona! |
If any of you get the upcoming Amazing Mighty Kuuga, please, show it off. It's my favorite form of my favorite Rider, and MAN do the promo pics make it look great. Still waiting for reviews of Mighty Form to happen, since the promo pics for that weren't exactly flattering, unfortunately.
EDIT: And just as I say that one pops up in my recommends on YT. Mighty Kuuga looks way better than what the promo pics made him look. Definitely way better than the original Figuart, so if any Kuuga fans out there don't want to pay absurd prices for a Kuuga figure, go for this one. |
Amazing Mighty's on my list! I realised that with RabbitRabbit and Tajador, I was kind of starting to put together a Red-Super-Form-Of-My-Favourite-Rider-Shows display, so I've liked the idea of getting Rising Mighty! Only issue is, he's looking pretty expensive to get...
You're very welcome Fish! Though I admit I find it kinda funny that half your kits are from shows you haven't seen yet :lol |

I kid, but yeah, assuming Figure-Rise has all of the Rising Forms be spare parts, it makes me wonder what extra parts are going to come with what. Like, will Rising Pegasus parts come with Growing Form, for example? |

It, uh, it makes doing the kits a little bit harder, that's for sure. Doing Ex-Aid or the Double kits, I had a sense of how it was all supposed to look in the end, so sticker application and limb construction was something I felt confident with. The Zi-O boys and Kabuto, there was a fair amount of looking at the box, making sure I got it right. I guess I just like building the kits so much I don't care who they're of? Slap that quote on the boxes, Bandai! |

I remember being so hype when they practically announced that they're doing all the Heisei riders that I doodled a potential Figure-Rise Decade. One of my wanted features was an optional rubber belt so you can fidget it into the other riders' waists. Still trying to figure out how to paint and customize my FRS Build into his Hazard form or base Cross-Z. I really do like the customs that JP Twitter makes using the kits. Like, SAH Zero-One here. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/EOCUFrmV...jpg&name=large Or MCH Zero-One. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/ERag62BU...jpg&name=large |

Come to think of it, Decade would have quite a few accessories to come with. His Neo Decadriver, all three forms of the Ride Booker, his cards... |

I'm curious about something! That is so unlike me!
What's your model kit construction process like? Any tips or tricks you've found helpful? For me, I'll lay every runner out on a table, alphabetically, and then I'll use the box to clip pieces and build parts. I'll hold the box on my lap while I work, so I don't lose pieces or make a plasticy mess. Like so! https://challengerscomics.com/images/kr/sodo/model6.jpg (I'm out of Figure-Rise kits, so that's a Furai Skywarp I built today. Giant soda from Subway is recommended, but not required.) Any part of your process that you'd be willing to share would be appreciated! Thanks! |
Oh, I'm a messy fool who lays out all her stuff on her bed with a bunch of coke cans beside me! Sure, I cut parts out over the open box and use said open box to put all the rubbish in; but otherwise I have a way too risky process with no real benefits. Hell yeah!

I am hilariously inept when it comes to putting things together, and model kits are no exception. This why I'm always hesitant to get a kit, even if it's a character I straight up know will never get an action figure(like Great Zeorymer). |

(i was originally going to reply with a pic of Fourze offering a handshake but I couldn't find one and got lazy) |
I refuse to buy proper model kit tools. I just use a pocket knife, nailclippers, and toothpicks. It works well enough, th figures look fine as long as you don't look too close
|
I use a set of sprue cutters, an Xacto knife, a fine toothed file and some sand paper.
If something is going to receive paint or a lot of stickers, I usually soak the pieces in bowl of warm soapy water and give them a gentle scrub with an old toothbrush. This helps primer/paint/stickers stick to the plastic better because most plastic/resin/white metal is coated in some kind of oil to help it release from the mold when it's being made. Also, good music or an audiobook are a must if you've got a lengthy project. |

Second, I really like to zone out making kits, even if they take a few hours, so I don't listen to nothing. No distractions, just focusing on my task to the exclusion of everything else. Mindfulness, you know? |

It's also my suggestion that taking your time with this is key, don't worry about hogging away a bunch of material at once, just slowly smooth it down. |

I feel like my process is going to have to stop at the xacto knife. All of the sanding and whatnot... I just don't need it that perfect? And I can't even imagine how much extra time it'd take me to make it 8% more pretty. I can do a Figure-Rise kit (badly, as it turns out) in about 90-odd minutes. A Transformers Furai kit, closer to 3 hours. Doing all of the work in that video for one individual piece, I think I'd be working on a kit for a week, and man, that just ain't me. Still, thank you for that video! It was incredibly informative! |

For me, it comes down to where the piece will be visible. Is it a big shoulder piece with a nub on a seam? I will go at it with some sandpaper (also the color of the plastic dictates how much I will sand!) Pieces that will be hidden, I sometimes just cut straight from the runner and don't do anything else. What I love about model kits is how they can be many things to many people. Paint them or don't, customize or go stock, do it in one sitting or use it has a fun activity over a few nights. Sometimes when I am bored, I will go back to a old kit I haven't touched in months and add more details or paint applications. |
