I'm interested in Zero One base suit from AI 01, Lightning Hornet from 03, one of the bikes, and Geiz Majesty set.
|
Die wants sets 04 and 05
Q wants Thouser, but is in the UK so here's a link to one in case they just want that. ShiShiLeo wants a Zero one, a lightning hornet a bike and a geiz majesty. Okay so that leaves 2 full sets of AI 01, a shoot wolf vulcan, 1 AI 02, Horobi, Jin, Rising Hopper, a Zi-o movie form, 2 bikes and the vulcan statue thing. |

Thanks for trying, though! |
So this is easily the best resource on these little guys out there so after reading the 30 odd pages in the last day I have a few questions.
I came back to KR after decades away from it (watched Black when doing an internship in Japan when it aired and loved it) came back when I had a strange change in my work/travel about a year ago and have binged 7-9 shows so far and am really in love with it again. I bought back in big on Figuarts initially but I don't do much dynamic posing and they just stand in a case, so I've started selling off and bought a handful of the Medicom RAH which are great and fill the Figuarts need bigger and better. But, recently looking at these as a fill in for smaller figures and in love with the fact they go so deep on characters. I placed an order for all the 01 stuff which is coming and if I have decent success with them I plan to go back and do Ex-Aid, Build and track down the new OOO stuff. So, for someone who's been gifted with meathook for hands and is a better boxer than model builder how annoying will these be for someone who doesn't do models? Anything I should buy to help this along? nippers? Tweezers? etc. is using a matte clear nail polish ideal for keeping these stickers on or is it over the top? I had a few more questions I've forgotten but for now I look forward to just observing the thread and the awesome job everyone does with these. |

As for stickering, I just treated it as normal -- used my tweezers to apply; they're easy enough with just your fingers but your tweezers or exacto knife or whatever else would probably make it easier. Even if you've got nothing around they're the perfect sort of small-scale kits to just jump in there and make in 10-20 minutes! |

Like any line of DIY figures, some SO-DO are going to be easier than others. I've had figures where every sticker went on like a dream, and ones that will never look right to me. It's a lot of figures, and they're not all winners. But! They're all pretty accessible for even the most beginner of customizer. For basic SO-DO, all you might need beyond what's in the box is a pair of tweezers, and even that's fairly optional. Most stickers are of a size where you manipulate them by hand, but it doesn't hurt to have something ready to deal with the microscopic few. If you're going to do the SO-DO Chronicle ones, like OOO or Double, I'd recommend having a pair of nippers. There's nothing to cut off of runners for the normal line, but Chronicle has a variety of hands you'll need to cut free. I picked up a small "beginner tools for model kits" set from HLJ or someone a couple years ago, and it had everything I've needed to do SO-DO, Figure-Rise kits, whatever. I can't speak to much beyond that, so nail polish or anything else is a bit above my skill level. Like Kurona said (sniped in with a great concise answer while I was typing out all of my nonsense), these are meant to be fun, simple toys for beginning fans. Even taking your time to get your first one perfect might only mean 15-20 minutes of work. I did my first one after lunch on a slow workday. (Workdays! What a foreign concept.) I'm excited to see how you enjoy SO-DO! Let us know how it does for you! |
Yeah, I've been doing So-Do for years, all I ever use is my fingers and a toothpick for some subtle manipulation of stickers. It's a really fun, really addictive line. Solid articulation for the approximately 800 yen cost, and they make a fantastic way to display every single Rider suit and a ton of other recurring non-Rider suits as well

Edit: Also I only just realized that Box 7 of AI 06 includes 2 stands despite it being in the pictures the entire times. It's really cool either way. |

I always feel a little bad when I slightly derail this thread by goofing around, so here’s a look at a SO-DO I basically just put together out of guilt, RIDE PLAYER NICO!
https://challengerscomics.com/images/kr/sodo/nico1.jpg Nico’s a limited edition/exclusive/I don’t know figure who comes boxed with Gamedeus Cronus and a bunch of effects parts. Those all went back in the box for the time being, since I just wanted to work on Nico. https://challengerscomics.com/images/kr/sodo/nico2.jpg Luckily, Nico is bagged with all of her stuff, sans stickers. She’s just a figure and a sword, not much to her. Her backpack and hat are already a part of the figure, and there’s a ton of paint on this thing. Feels way more premium than your average SO-DO. Most of the stickers are just to add detail. She has a regular amount of stickers, about as much as a standard Build figure. https://challengerscomics.com/images/kr/sodo/nico3.jpg https://challengerscomics.com/images/kr/sodo/nico4.jpg And here she is! Didn’t take more than about ten minutes to sticker her up. She’s got some stickers that need to go in small parts of her arms and legs, so you will be disassembling this one to get it all applied. Everything pops off easy, though, so no need to worry about that part. The trouble parts for me were, as seemingly always, any sticker that has to curve over a rounded/domed surface. That hat, it didn’t come out as great as I’d like for such a focal point of her design. Same thing for her gloves/gauntlets, those didn’t wrap great around her wrists. Otherwise, I’m happy with how she turned out. Most of the stickers blend really well, and there’s way more attention to the things like her backpack and back of her legs than you’d normally see. It doesn’t feel like any detail was skimped on, and Ride Player Nico’s thing is A Lot Of Specific Tiny Details, so I’m happy. https://challengerscomics.com/images/kr/sodo/nico5.jpg I really like the Nico character, and the Ride Player Nico design. Brown isn’t a color you see a lot in Kamen Rider, due (I assume) to how boring and weak a neutral color like that looks on screen. Which, you know, that’s why the Ride Players are brown in Ex-Aid, a show that is otherwise garish and colorful. Nico’s customization is a nice compromise, keeping her teen-girl aesthetic (stickers, charms) without disrupting the narrative usefulness of the palette. Plus, she actually gets to fight as a Rider, which makes her great in my book. Now where’s my Nico Snipe SO-DO?! https://challengerscomics.com/images/kr/sodo/nico6.jpg |

Edit: And I've set the sniper bid up |
The satisfying click of inserting the Switch joycons has always felt somewhat like a Rider toy...

Also update for those who I was splitting the first/build SO-DO lot with: The current total price is 12519 yen to buy and ship the items to the zenmarket warehouse. Edit: The price of the lot is currently 8050 yen Edit 2: We've got our first look at Burning Falcon Jin https://cdn-ak.f.st-hatena.com/image...0409012314.jpg Here is the rest of the post, but it's mostly about the latest SHODO wave. |
Blade Brave time

I was certain someone else would post this, but hey; happy to take up the mantle of Sodo Update Girl!
INFERNO WING! https://cdn-ak.f.st-hatena.com/image...0409012314.jpg Perhaps predictably; Jin Burning Falcon swoops in as the first figure of Zero-One's AI07! He comes with replaceable wing parts, and what looks like a longer version of the Slashriser for handheld use! https://cdn-ak.f.st-hatena.com/image...0409012335.jpg https://cdn-ak.f.st-hatena.com/image...0409012350.jpg As Shodo-X 5 releases tomorrow, the majority of last night's blog was given over to showcasing it. Meaning we get a lot of lovely shots of Stronger on his bike! https://cdn-ak.f.st-hatena.com/image...0408211441.jpg https://cdn-ak.f.st-hatena.com/image...0408211556.jpg https://cdn-ak.f.st-hatena.com/image...0408212805.jpg And moving straight into Heisei, the other major release in Shodo-X 5; Blade! Here he is shown off with his fellow Shodo/Sodo Heisei 1 riders for a complete lineup; a Showa scarf attached to mimic HBV fake Blade... and a little hint that Chalice could be coming sooner rather than later! https://cdn-ak.f.st-hatena.com/image...0408213557.jpg https://cdn-ak.f.st-hatena.com/image...0408213853.jpg https://cdn-ak.f.st-hatena.com/image...0408221940.jpg https://cdn-ak.f.st-hatena.com/image...0408221956.jpg |

However, the neatest thing about this mod is that you can program the joycon to be recognized as whatever colors you want by the Switch. I want to get gold and metallic purple buttons but they don't make it in the Dpad style mod I used. |
That photo of Blade in the rain is pretty good stuff. I'll probs pick him up at some point, especially if Chalice and Tachibana-san will join.
Jin is expected, but he does look nice. I was thinking the other day if I could predict what's going to go into Wave 7, and here's what I came up with what we have to be released: - Barlckx and Zamonas. I reckon we'll see Zamonas first, but that's just a hunch. - Tsukuyomi - Type-1 - Rampage Vulcan (Almost certainly coming Wave 7, what with him being the big upgrade form) - Hopping Kangaroo, which will be a Televii-Kun release at some point probs - Ikazuchi, who I almost forgot about So, I'm gonna make bets and say that Wave 7 will be: Burning Falcon Rampage Vulcan Zamonas Type-1 |
I honestly finally want to get Ikazuchi!

I'd love for Fighting Jackal to get a release, and I can see it happening if Yua keeps using it. Trilobites wouldn't surprise me either, and and would make for a nice display to make with Thouser. Another Zero-One, idk, but I remember saying Another Riders wouldn't get a release ages ago, and it did eventually happen, so *shrug*.
I guess it depends on what else they have for future waves. The only obvious thing that's definitely coming is Zero-One's final form, and probs movie Riders, so we've got to figure out content from somewhere, now we don't have infinite Decade Forms to do. |

Going by the price of each of the upcoming complete sets, AI 7 has six boxes, 8 has nine and 9 has ten. Assuming no more waves get announced, here's my speculation.
AI 7 Flaming Falcon Body? Flaming Falcon Armor? Zamonas Body? Zamonas Armor? Ichi-gata Body? Ichi-gata Armor? AI 8 Rampage Vulcan Body? Rampage Vulcan Armor? Barlckxs Body? Barlckxs Armor? Tsukuyomi Body? Tsukuyomi Armor? Ikazuchi Body Ikazuchi Armor Horseshoe Crab Raider? AI 9 Jackal Raider Body? Jackal Raider Armor? Zero-One Final Form Body? Zero-One Final Form Armor? Final Arc Surprise Suit Body? Final Arc Surprise Suit Armor? Zero-One Movie Suit Body? Zero-One Movie Suit Armor Movie Villain Body? Movie Villain Armor? |

https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachmen...412_172118.jpg Edit: Pic1: Top Stage 1, bottom Stage 6. Pic 2 Top Stage 6, Bottom Stage 1. Just something I wanted to show off. This is the difference between my SODO Stage 1 brave's stickers and my Stage 6 brave's stickers. I've stored both these figures just loose in a box for most the time I've had them, and the wave 6 stickers are just such higher quality. The quality jump is frankly astounding. It really does amaze me how SO-DO has grown since Ex-Aid Stage 1, even within the Ex-aid line. |

Honestly, it's been weird messing around with the Ex-Aid figures recently. I started on the Build line, and that's only a few months to a year later, and the Ex-Aid figures feel... not great? The proportions are weird on the Ex-Aid figures, and the stickers (while hitting areas of the figure I wouldn't expect) don't seem to do as much as the Build ones do. I don't know. I'm glad I got the figures I got, Ride-Player Nico forever, but I'm not sure I'm going to try and grab all of the Ex-Aid ones. They might be too dated, design-wise, for me now. (Also, I'm terrified that any ones I get now will have stickers with, like, zero adhesive. It's been a slight problem with some Build figures, and I gotta figure it'll be worse with Ex-Aid.) |
Just a heads-up for SO-DO fans in the US and/or any lurkers who are curious about this toy line: I'm letting spare SO-DO go, on a pay-what-you-can basis. Shipping's $8.50 in the US, anything you want to pay beyond that is up to you. More details in this thread!

Can't believe the image breaks just when I need it to understand a joke, my fvourite thing.

I finally got around to painting SO-DO Chronicles OOO TaToBa. This is one of the more expensive figures, requiring 3 boxes to complete, though you do get a lot of accessories.
Overall, the quality is much higher than Den-O, who feels very lose at all joints from the waist down. The head/neck articulation is a little stiff, which probably has something to due with the form change gimmick. https://i.imgur.com/gcGJx59.jpg Here he is being summoned by Grand Zi-O! https://i.imgur.com/szjyLEW.jpg And a rider kick! https://i.imgur.com/9SfmCEY.jpg You can see the lack of neck articulation really contributes to the stiff look of the kick. In terms of painting, OOOs has a lot of good paint applications already, though the primary colors of green, yellow, and red are a bit muted. I might try adding some gloss coating to darken those colors. As always, I used a combination of gundam paint markers and the included stickers. This is based on what parts are molded and whats going to be easy to paint. For example, the yellow stickers on the sides of the chest would be very difficult to paint with detail, so the stickers work best. I used a black Gundam marker to detail in the mask, the black stripe areas of the forearms, and the lines in the legs. The entire belt was painted silver, with some gold details on the scanner (it comes with a sticker but I went with paint here). Finally, I added some yellow paint to the glove fingers. SO-DO continue to be incredibly fun to assemble and paint. The one thing I really dream of from the line are the trademark compound eyes. I really hope Bandai sticks with the line long enough to give us at least the 20 Heisei riders. |

Also, that OOO looks amazing! Great job! |
