I will try to give this episode a really fair chance. But if I have to be honest I really don't have high hopes for this.
|
Who put these dang onions in my room?
|
So it is finally confirmed...
He is able to walk among us and not be confined to his singular narrative domain... |
Jaou Dragon jingle still awesome. Although I fear that if I keep listening to it for too long my sense of grammar will get mixed up.

Kento got rekt real bad this episode, but I feel as if he won't be gone for long (unless we see his actor with flowers lmao). We'll probably see him again in the Southern Base with a new belt/upgrade.
A part of me wants him to stay gone tho, or at least give Ikazuchi to someone else. (Mei? Luna?) The Swordriver trio will definitely still be a thing, but I kinda hope Kento gets to use a new belt or Calibur. Espada is such a weird case since we don't know why it's differently colored, or who was the previous Espada. Oh yeah, good to see Tassel come out of his little house along with Avalon guy. But with his appearance, makes me kinda doubt his role as a possible villain. Maybe not a villain, but I guess him and Avalon guy could be potential hurdles for Touma to overcome. Not villains, just challengers. Or they could just be ppl guiding Touma, maybe. Edit: I knew it was gonna happen sooner or later, death scene and then the happy ending song immediately starts playing. |
This feel like ghost first arc and wizard in general. dejavu all the hype and stakes, but it doesn't amount too much because you don't really care for the characters. People really expect Xmas episode 16ish debut for dragonic night. Nope. Next week. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=P4KrwG6KKyQ the last few episodes feels like the last few episodes of a kamen rider endgame blueprint. Except not in a good way. The shows really doesn't let itself breathe. It's just action and more characters / mysteries sprinkle without solid answer. Teasing among teasing. We're here for the suits and actions solely. Cgi and fight choreography

Huh. Guess he was too late.
|
To be honest, not expecting Kento to actually be dead or be dead for long, considering that he's in the promotional and trailers for the movie. Especially with how they talked about how Calibur "sacrificed all those people, including Kento" in the preview, so it feels like he might come back to life when Calibur's defeated. Definitely out of commission for a long while, though. But I do think this was a decently emotional episode. Not the best, but it does what it does fine.
|
they seriously did this again after only several years ago? -w-;
even the same color rider. |
So Tassel and Avalon guy meet and appear in show together. I thought the Avalon guy might be the final boss somehow. Now I don't know. It looked as if both of them were Shinigamis somehow. The guys that appear when a swordman dies and they come search him.
Mei staying with Rintaro was cute. You can tell what she was thinking even if she didn't say anything (for once lol). When Rintaro was "yokatta yokatta" about Kento, the look she had was clearly "Think about yourself as well, be okay". I liked how the henshin sounds for Espada and Calibur were so clean in this ep. Slash is still the most entertaining to watch when fighting Im not so emotional about Kento right now. I would find it nice if someone else could become Espada in his place, but I guess that's not so easy. And as long as I don't see his body physically disappear I'm not even convinced he is dead. Maybe in a coma most probably. |
Kento staying actually dead would be the biggest twist this show could throw at us.
I'm fully expecting him to come back around May with a kitbash suit, prob also be part of the villains for a bit before switching back before end game. |
I just hope this won't go into a weird route about Kento being evil because of a misunderstanding or something.
Like if he is in a coma. And then when he wakes up he is partially amnesic just like Touma was (kinda switching roles now that Touma seems to remember everything) but the few memories he has left are like "my father being dead... killed by (old) Saber", forgets the pinky promise thing and then tadaa big vilain with absurd revenge. |
Disappointingly, I think the magazine scans actually point to Kento just being in a coma. He's not much any closer to being a bad guy, I think. Kenzan has a chance tho what with the "heel turn".
I kinda actually like Mei here too. She showcases another emotion other than "poggers", being genuinely upset at Kento. Edit: rewatching with subs and VoidinToku's opinion about the characters not being fully established yet kinda makes emotional scenes like this have little in impact. It was a sad scene but with the notion that he'll just be in a coma (I think magazine scans said that), Kento's 'death' scene is hard to swallow. Altho, there might still be room for him to be "Dead" dead, what with Touma saying something about "You sacrificed people! And even Kento!" Rintaro's injury actually has more weight, despite his "I'm an orphan" backstory just being dumped to Kento out of nowhere, but it does contextualize his personality throughout the show. He's sheltered, doesn't know much of earthly culture, and very kind to people since only SOL was there for him. And his injury actually lasts till next episode, which is cool. Kento was also dumb here (which is kinda in-character for him) since he knows that taking on Calibur alone is useless since the three of them barely managed to beat Calibur on his base form. Even kept his plans to everyone a secret, except Touma. His only hint was the "place where we made the promise" and even then it banks on Touma actually regaining that memory, otherwise Touma might not have been able to find him. Ren dum dum too for not checking if Kento was actually with him the whole time, he also looks better when he's not smiling like a psycho lmao. It's an okay episode, but not fully earned since we know little of SOL. Tho, that might helped with the Swordsman biographies, maybe. |

WE MIGHT HAVE A NEW TROPE ON OUR HANDS FOLKS! |

Lazer Grease and now Espada. Yep. It's a trope now. |
Utterly adored the intensity of this one. I mean, that beautifully directed fight between Esapada and Calibur, Touma realizing what Kento's been putting himself through, an injured Rintarou riding in on a lion to save the day(!), even the way the show is slowly building up to making Tassel a significant part of the series, of all things...
I thought there was a lot to love here, as always. By the time it gets to that big sad scene of Touma finding Kento beat to a pulp, I mean, I totally bought into it, and I don't even expect Kento to be gone any longer than the rest of the year at most. But the emotions of the characters, and the way the show just goes for that solemn moment, it seriously landed with me. Consider me hyped for Kamen Rider Dragon Knight next week. |
... man, I don't know. Something about this just isn't hitting for me.
I want to like it but I'm just not really feeling anything. |
not sure if Espada is gonna die since he's featured so prominently in the marketing (Lazer was BARELY in Ex-Aid's marketing)
BUT YEAH IF I thought anyone was gonna die it was Buster tbh |

So random wild speculation; What if Daichi/Calibur's current goal is to open the pillars so that he may open that portal and enter it to rescue Luna? Reason? Luna is his daughter.
|
This was a nice episode, I'm curious as to how they villains are going to get the sixth pillar given Kenzan killing another Ogre ended up causing the book world to vanish.
Also I will continue to say that Rintaro is best boy because damn, this man's devotion to his friends and to protect the peace even while grievously injured is honestly commendable. Also what a nice way to raise the stakes and basically put Touma's sights on Calibur, while Kento probably won't die, he'll be out of commission for a while. But that's just enough to motivate Touma into using his new upgrade for next week. |
The weakness to having so many Riders in a show is that if you don't manage it properly, everyone becomes a one-dimension caricature.
Buster is just an old guy too stubborn and tough to die Kenzan is a battle hungry slasher-smile freak Slash is a guy with a split personality Blades is the gentleman swordsman Espada is the kid with the chip on his shoulder Then there's Saber who's the promise maker. Ugh I'm trying hard to invest more into this series, but damn, its hard to make it good. Gaim had multiple Riders, but it became really clear who the main Riders are and the other Riders who were along the story were introduced relatively early, had skin in the game and became Riders later with new belts that makes pretty good sense in the story. Kabuto has a lot of Riders too, but each of them had a story, had a motivation and they kinda have their own theme. |
Gaim's riders were just as one-dimensional, especially as early as Episode 12.

And the final boss is Touma. Since he is the King that will destroy the worlds with his Rewrites. |
One dimensional characters are perfectly fine for secondary and definitely tertiary characters. This is not really their story. Some of the most endearing characters in fiction are one-dimensional or straight-forward.
In fact for an older character like Buster, I often find it forced for them to go through major changes that late in life. That being said, there's still plenty of time for characters to develop more as it pertains to the plot. |
Oh I get it, the episode is called 'In That Promised Place' is because that's where Kento got Christmassed.

also if were gonna kill pepes off why not kill Buster/Kenzan off seeing as how both of them are BARELY in the show(and since Slash''s not as marketable I suspect he'll be less relevant as the show progresses
|
honestly I have a theory what if Mei becomes the new Espada(why would they show Espada in the movie if Kento was dead inb4 they bring him back next week and I'm reading into things too hard Fukuda is at the helm expect stupidity)

I saw one theory on here about Kento deflecting from the Northern Base to the Southern Base, I think this is what eventually will happen with Reika taking his body and bringing him back to there to revive him and molding him into their ideals at their branch, thereby making him a whole new Espada.

Yeah this episode... didn't really hit as well as it probably should have.
Oh well, we got more Slash and non-screaming Mei. |
Something I noticed rewatching with subs.
If the translation is correct (which might not be accurate 100%), the way Kamijo spoke about Touma just before the end of the fight, I have the feeling Touma wasn't involved with Sword of Logos even before his amnesia. Until now I thought Touma might have been Kamijo apprentice to be the next Saber, Kento the Espada apprentice and Luna either the daughter of Kamijo and/or the next "Sophia-role" trainee and the 3 of them were hanging out together. But now with that line I have the feeling Touma might have been a "normal kid" just hanging out with Kento and Luna (met them at to some point and they joined together to enjoy books), but nothing like a future swordman or anything and he got mixed in all this 15 years ago. If so, maybe there is some kind of "real" Saber apprentice somewhere |
Good episode, but it needed more flashbacks to the kids' pinky swear. I wasn't sure if it was meant to be important or not.
