HELL YEAH!!!! Surprised they aren't doing Beast of White Night first though.
|
I’ve still got to get their release of the first show, but I’m glad they plan on doing more.
|
I remember when I was surprise that we got the first Garo TV show being released in the US. I guess the anime Garo must be doing well to add more demand for the live action shows.
I hope Kraken could release Kamen Rider in the US. I feel like the series is big enough now to support a official release. |

I can see reasons to release Kiba now since it's a side story within the series, they just need to be releasing the special before Makai Senki. PS To anyone that's never watched Garo and just got collection 1, that cover is full of spoilers. |

Talking about Kiba's cover, not collection 1's cover.

Still find it awesome that the dude who plays Kiba was Taki in Kamen Rider Black. |

I'm actually quite worried about the future of Garo releases in the US. Part 1 was so bare-bones it was almost OFFENSIVE, and the packaging was sloppy enough that I was almost worried I'd gotten some sort of boot-leg. Their asking price is high, they're not even releasing seasons as a package, and I haven't seen a speck of advertising anywhere. I really do wish a company like Funimation or Shout Factory had gotten their hands on this license instead.......as it is, I'm worried we won't even get the second series, much less more than this one movie.
Not to say we shouldn't be BUYING THIS STUFF ANYWAYS. The best chance of getting more is to throw money at them now, after all. Doesn't help ease my worries though. |
I'm not really sure what you're expecting from a GARO US release to be honest.
Bare bones in terms of what? Extras? Bad packaging? It's hell of a lot better than Shout's pathetic efforts with Zyu or Dairanger. Price? Eh, I partly agree but the set is discounted in so many places it's hard to take the RRP at face value. I guess I'm buying from the UK too so it seems pretty cheap to me. This is always going to be a niche franchise that shifts relatively low numbers in the West. I'm sure the anime releases are exactly the same. It's not gonna get much advertisement because the people who will buy will already know about it from places like this. |

How can they put something that doesn't exist on there? Even if I'm wrong though, those bonus features still cost extra money and who knows if they were even allowed to license them. What is wrong with the cover art though? It's using the artwork from the Region 2 DVD cases. The price is just fine. $25 is pretty cheap for a 13/12 episode set of a more modern, niche market Toku series. Hell, that is cheaper than the Dragon Ball Super BDs that are $40 a piece for 13 episodes. Not to mention the Region 2 DVDs cost $45 and ranged from 2-4 episodes per volume with no subtitles on them. On a personal level, if this is all we get, while that sucks, at least we got the best Garo series. |

As for the half season thing, most Japanese releases in the US (provided you aren't ANIPLEX.....GODS I dislike Aniplex) tend to compile full seasons, or entire series, into one box. The YuYu Hakusho blu-rays, a series with a bigger fanbase in the US that they could easily charge more for, come with twice as many episodes per set, and at a cheaper price-point. And the packaging? The plastic quality on mine was noticeably flimsier than on most of my other blu-rays, and the cover slip was sloppily inserted, off center and crooked. Now, that one may just have been an error on the one I got. Maybe it was better on others. Still didn't fill me with much confidence though. And remember, this series (yes, the full one, including the second half coming later), even discounting the many movies, is only HALF of Kouga's story. And if this fails to sell well........which due to their near non-existent advertising feels quite likely, I'm worried we won't ever get the rest of it out here. I'm not trying to come down as TOO negative here. Having Garo in my blu-ray collection is AMAZING, and something I never thought I'd see. No matter how this turns out, I'm happy for what I got. In the back of my mind, I just wish it could have been more, you know? I feel that another studio could have done a better job, and spread the word of this great series to more people. If this one series and movie is all we get, I'll be happy for it, but I'll still find myself feeling sad we couldn't get more. All of that as it is, it's still quite possible we WILL get more! I'm just airing my worries out. Sometimes it helps to get these sorts of negative thoughts on paper (so to speak), rather than letting them stew. :P |

As for Gamera, those are two different things. Daiei and Kadokawa would give anything away for their shitty movies. Quote:
Look at Sailor Moon. Those sets are $60 a piece for 20-23 episodes. Also, you'r mistaking anime as if it encompasses everything Japanese. A toku series will only have a fraction of the market anime has. Anime DVDs were $30 for four episodes 17 years ago. It took years to get to the prices we are now. Before that, they were on VHS with TWO episodes for $40. Quote:

Plus, having a friend who is incharge of licensing anime has taught me a lot of how licensing works with Japanese companies. It's not as simple as you would think it would be. For one thing, Japanese companies frown upon bloopers because they don't think people should be celebrating their screw ups, as such, they don't allow English companies to put blooper reals on their releases anymore (when it does happen, it is because the licensor begged to let them be on the disc). There are also times when a Japanese company just won't send bonus feature materials over to the licensor for months on end to the point that the licensor just has to release the product with out them. |
