Choujin Sentai Jetman questions?
Ive watched many Sentai shows and the one that became my favorite was the first one i watched which was Choujin Sentai Jetman. I don't know what it is about the show but i just freaking adore it. So basically I have a few questions about it. Was Choujin Sentai popular in Japan during it's 1991-1992 run? How popular was it compared to other Sentai shows from the 90's? And lastly does anyone have any recent pictures of any of the actors from the show i've had a little trouble finding some besides ones of the Guy who played black condor lol.

Jetman was popular indeed, understand : the toys sales were very good.
If you're interested in TV ratings and numbers, I found this : http://henshingrid.blogspot.fr/2011/...gs-vs-toy.html Then, as the nostalgia factor occurs, more people tend to consider that Dairanger, that aired two years later, is THE show to watch if you want to watch showa era super sentai (dixit AkibaRed). But I still prefer Jetman. |
The very obvious gatchaman homage was awesome too.

I think Jetman did so well because it appealed to parents, teens, and kids. One of the heroes and the most popular one was a smoking, drinking, womanizer who hated taking orders. There were two love triangles and the villains were pretty great as well.
Jetman is a great season to watch and I wish that it could have worked out to where MMPR season 1 used Jetman footage instead of Zyuranger, but the dino theme was too good to pass up. |
It wasn't the MOST popular series, but it was one of the most popular. 90's Sentai = best Sentai.

You're correct. The "Showa era" ended in 1989, with the passing of Emperor Hirohito (referred to posthumously as "Emperor Showa").
Dairanger is an awesome show, though, as is Jetman. I get the impression that Jetman's reputation was a reult of the influence it had on Sentai, taking inspiration from Japanese dramas of the time, and ideas such as the infighting in Vyram. In terms of 90's Sentai, it is very much beloved. In some ways, very much of its time, (Obviously things like toy sales are much more of a factor now) but still a great show. |
l when debating Showa don't get rider involed due shin zo and j fall under hesei but toei class then as Showa due to ishimori part of them before he died

Thanks for the info guys!!!Ya I noticed also that Jetman had a lot of mature themes compared to other Sentai shows. I think that's why I dig it so much. I would say Dairanger is my second favorite I just started watching that over the weekend.

Well, the series also has a continuing manga Jetman was popular because the storyline was a bit more mature and catered to different age groups. As for Gai.... I last seen him in Gokaiger and it seems like gokaiger is the last sentai that ive enjoyed.... i didn't like Go-Busters, Kyoryuger and ToQger I hope Ninninger is good.... |
