"Zero Gear."
To uncover the secrets of Kuroto Dan and the Bugster Virus,
Kiriya Kujou
made the ultimate sacrifice. But in a universe full of game worlds, living viruses, and super deformed super heroes, it's no wonder that the coroner with a cause would return! Making a return to the battlefield as an "evil" Bugster, Kiriya would eventually reveal his true intentions and again ally himself with the doctors of
CR
once again. Able to harness the power of the
Proto-Gashats,
Kiriya returns to the battlefield in this gallery of
S.H. Figuarts Kamen Rider Lazer Turbo Bike Gamer Level 0!
Packaging
Themed very similarly to Lazer Level's 2 & 5, this one is still a fairly bright and garish design. But on repeated outings like this the Ex-Aid style packaging is becoming a bit more boring to look at. Especially with windowless web exclusive boxes.
Main Figure
We're back once again with a mold we know all too well! The original Ex-Aid mold has been used as a basis for a majority of the figures in this line so far from
Ex-Aid Level 2
all the way through
Brave Level 100
and now Lazer Level 0. In Lazer's case what we essentially have is the same basic version of the body as Ex-Aid & GenM, with a new head and back panel. Feel free to skip down a bit if you like to get past some of the repetitive bits of the review.
Lazer Turbo Level 0
utilizes the familiar Mighty Action X body type we've come to know and love. Bringing with it all the meticulous molded details and paint apps we've previously seen before. Much as with previous outings, this figure is just wonderfully executed. From the Ground up this body type is a solid build that's really held up with more and more releases. Physically I still nitpick the ankles on this mold, they still feel a bit limited, especially moving forward. And getting Lazer into a good pose is a total necessity for his character. So you really have to work with these feet. The knees have a great bend that helps add to the general athletic platformer theme of this body type. The paint apps are more accurately applied on this outing which is nice given how spotty they've been on past releases.
The
Gamer Driver
for this figure is the same standard one we've seen over 10 times now. I still think it's an incredible to-scale replica. The appropriate readout and Game title have been added to this release. The Driver handle can flip shut, thus hiding the rider read out on the front screen as well. The right of the driver has 2 slots for Gashats. One is already attached in the form of the
Proto-Bakusou Bike Gashat.
As is standard this is a dummy Gashat that can be reattached to any compatible Driver, holster, or Gashacon weapon. To the right of the driver, is a Gashat holster. There are 2 slots for extra Gashats as well as 1 slot for a Critical Finish to be inserted.
As with the others, Lazer's chest detailing is magnificent and the Rider Gauge label is flawless. The paint apps on the outer layer are crisp and clear here for the most part as well.On the flip side of the torso is the first newly molded part of this release, a new deactivated
Lazer Level 1 head.
It's a bit stylized and shrunk down, but that's as it should be if TV CG magic could really work in toy form. Not to be forgotten are the arms, which admittedly only have one flaw that I'm truly bothered by, and that's the shoulder pads. Not because they impact the articulation, but because they pop off easily when fully extending the arms. I had the same problem with my Ex-Aid though oddly not with the Mighty Brothers. But it's a minor issue. The wrists are solid, the elbows fully functional and the bicep swivel welcome as always.
Finally that brings us to the head. This one will definitely look familiar to you , if you own a
Lazer Level 5
that is. It's a straight reuse of the Level 5 head both in show and in toy form. It's pretty cool when a late stage kitbash for a show makes it's way to toy form in essentially the same way. The head looks just a tad over sized on this figure, but really it looked like that in show as well. Really that's about it.
Accessories
Kiriya doesn't come with much but it's just enough:
3 - sets of hands.
1 set fully opened, 1 relaxed for gestures, and 1 for holding the included weapons. Or a certain motorcycles handlebars...
1 - Gashcaon Sparrow.
The trademark weapon of Kamen Rider Lazer. The two halves care plugged together in the middle via a small black two-prong tab. Which is actually an improvement over the original Sparrow that came with Dangerous Zombie. The white tab in it's center was rectangular and very loose and to this day causes the two pieces to fall apart constantly. The new black tab holds the halves together super snugly and satisfyingly. Alternatively the two can be held in the individual
Sickle Modes
instead.
Final Thoughts
S.H. Figuarts Lazer Turbo
is a fairly basic release that relies on a well engineered mold and your love of a show to appreciate it. I of course do, very much. So this is a figure I was totally a sucker for. With time and distance from the Ex-Aid series I find I'm less attached to the characters than I once was. But I still have a great appreciation for the doctor riders and their designs. Enough so that I'm more than happy buying easy repaints such as this every so often. More is always better Bandai!
