That's what stuff like Amazons is for.
The mainstream channel stuff is more for kids and merchandising.
So at most we can get a blend of it, like how they updated Ichigo, but generally speaking they try to keep the main series upbeat and colorful. Though often with some dark elements since the colorfulness can offset that.
So I really wouldn't expect anything as dark as Shin, Black, or Black RX. By todays standards, Faiz, Blade, Kabuto, and Gaim are about the limits on how dark they can go. Over in Ultraman, Nexus experimented with it too, but was deemed 'too dark and foreboding'. But that was also during a time when Toku was trying to prove itself as a serious medium. That's not as much of a concern anymore. But there likely is some push to go back to some elements of Blade and Faiz, as well as some earlier sentai like Magi, Bouken, and Geki.
With a new series every year though, odds are very likely some older theme types may come back. But they do also want to balance it to stay upbeat for modern audiences too. So generally the want people coming out of the episodes feeling excited or hopeful. Not quite the same doom and gloom stuff like Faiz and Blade elicited, as well as elements of Kabuto. Those were more aimed at a slightly older audience anyway with a stronger teen demographic.
That audience is still there. But it doesn't push as much on merchandising, so it leans more towards other outlets. Which is actually beneficial to Amazon having the streaming rights since they may want to look into more original programming like Netflix.
Main channel stuff needs to fit more into the children's block pattern. So something like "flying cars" does fit there as it's a child constant on "cool."
That's one of the things on Riders and Sentai. They have to stay mildly kid friendly, but also appeal to wider demographics of audiences that watch it for tradition's sake. So it's that programming block that's more "Family oriented" and wants families to watch it together. General rule of thumb is that Sentai is more for kids, while Riders is more for the entire family to watch together.
In simpler terms with American counterparts. Sentai is more like Supergirl/Legends, while Riders are more like Flash. With Arrow being the adult oriented digital alternative(Amazons).
