"I can't bring love & peace alone."
The
Hazard Trigger,
a weapon of unmatched power. With it,
Sento Kiryu
can gain the upper hand in any fight, becoming an unstoppable berserker in the process. To contain this uncontrollable power, Sento develops a new Full Bottle to channel his strength and his consciousness. Surpassing the genius of Takumi Katsuragi, and maintaining himself within the chaos of
Hazard Form,
the Full Full Rabbit Tank Bottle creates two divergent forms! One with all the speed and agility of a rabbit, the crimson speedy jumper
Kamen Rider Build Rabbit Rabbit Form!
The other, bearing the firepower of it's own military force and the strength to wield it, the steel blue warrior,
Kamen Rider Build Tank Tank Form!
Representing his home Seito in the 3-round battle, Build will test his new powers against the dangerous
Kamen Rider Rogue.
Packaging
At odds with the regularity of the Build subline's packaging, Tank Tank Form comes in a massive box. While the odd release here and there like the
Hokuto Three Crows
or
Machine Builder
have come in expanded packaging styles, this one is quite unique as an alternate form. The large box is primarily the result of the massive Tank Mode parts included with this release, which double the size of the parts trays needed. It's an impressive release and the packaging is evidence of this. Aside from the unusual size the Tank Tank box fits right in thematically with the rest of Build's line.
Main Figure
Like many figuarts from Build,
Tank Tank Form
is at a basic structural level, a reuse of the standard
Rabbit Tank Form
mold. Much of this line is basic parts reuse, with elaborate paint additions to differentiate them, and Tank Tank takes the changes made for the
Rabbit Rabbit Form
release and builds (ha ha!) on them as well. Essentially the molde is the same with new armor in place of a bulk of Rabbit Rabbit's parts.
The legs are identical to Rabbit Rabbit, aside from those massive tank treads on the shins. They may be big but they don't weigh much so they don't cause any instability. And despite the bulk they don't terribly hamper ankle movement, the range is about the same as you can get out of rabbit rabbit, maybe slightly less in the forward direction. The ankle joints *as well as knees and hips) are nice & tight, providing a very stable base of support. And if anything that big raised flat surface on the shin gives the figure a great base to rest one leg down on the ground with. And works well for the included
Tank Mode
parts. The leg's as a whole function largely unchanged from their very first outing with Rabbit Tank, and really are a dynamic functional design.
The torso features yet another outing for the wonderful
Build Driver,
with a the same additions that came along with both Hazard & Rabbit Rabbit. Carried over from the Hazard Form release is the
Hazard Trigger,
it's molded in place on the top right of the driver. I wish it was removable for a figure to hold, but if they were going to give us one of those I'm guessing it would have been with the actual Hazard Form figuart. The Driver also feature the new Full Full Rabbit Tank Bottle in it's collapsed form, and colored blue for Tank Tank Form. It's removable as are all Full Bottles in the line, though it can't transform. An alternate accessory is included to replicate the cylinder form. As always an optional Full Bottle holster is attached to the left hip as well, though I refrain from using it out of fear of losing bottles.
The torso features armor that's functionally the same as Rabbit Rabbit, but is cosmetically differnet, sporting a really cool tank tread pattern this time. The chest armor feels like a proper piece of torso armor wrapped around the figure, rather than two piece of armor fused together as is traditional of Build's red/blue asymmetrical forms. Emblazoned on the chest is the golden Build emblem as well. I've always really dug this gear like symbol and I wish more riders had something like it on their suits. The arms are likewise mostly the same as what Rabbit Rabbit gave us. The shoulders do feature new rotating mini-tank pads. Each is on an up/down hinge but also has a full 360 ball joint so they can be spun forward to simulate shots being fired. The basic design of builds arms means that the shoulders have plenty of room to move out from the body to maneuver and angle, while maintaining a very natural look. The forearms continue the tank theme with more big beefy treads that thankfully don't add a ton of weight to the design. As always the Build mold's wrist design works wonderfully.
Tank Tank also has it's own version of the signature coattails. Rather than pegging directly into the back on a ball jointed peg, these flowing tank treads attach to the underside of a couple panels. You lose a little bit of the freedom of movement from the rabbit rabbit design, but they still work just fine and don't interfere with how the figure functions. Tank Tank's tread are made of a softer plastic and are therefore a bit more flexible, but still lightweight so they're never a problem for balance either. It's the best of both worlds and Tamashii needs to implement something akin to this in more figures.
Finally Tank Tank's head has the obvious base of the Hazard Form, as seen by the black spires coming out from behind the mask. The new tank visors are (like rabbit rabbit) easily some of the best I've seen from the line as well. The clarity of the underlying pattern is near crystal clear, and the gold accent really makes them pop. And while this figure can't exactly replicate the little Advance Wars style battalion of tanks descending on the battlefield (much as Rabbit Rabbit has no giant jumping rabbit mode) for Sento to armor up with, it is an absolutely solid retool of an already tried & true mold. The overall package s very impressive without even taking into account the accessories.
Accessories
4 - sets of hands.
As always, the Build line continues to give us a wealth of expressive options for each figure. Two types of open palms one of which is way more expressive, a set of weapon holding hands, and a set striking Build's signature finger pointing pose. Pretty much everything you'll need to accompany this form.
1 - Full Bottle Buster.
This is a straight repack of the weapon as it was originally included with Build Rabbit Rabbit Form. Originally this weapon was used mostly just by Rabbit Rabbit & Tank Tank. But later Build's standard form could also utilize it and he utilized it in Genius Form as well. The Buster can accept full bottles down it's barrel, those there's no locking mechanism or filler part to keep them from sliding back and forth unless you have it fully loaded. The trigger/grip can be folded down to transform it from Blade to Cannon mode as you wish as well.
1 - Full Full Rabbit Tank Bottle.
This double sized Full Bottle in it's cylinder form can be used in the Buster or any other Full Bottle compatible device, though not quite in the same way because of it's length. Otherwise you may not get much use out of it since the folded version of the bottle comes attached to the Build Driver. This one is colored blue to match the Tank Tank form, whereas the one that came with Rabbit Rabbit Form was of course red.
1 - set of Full Full Match Break Tank Mode parts.
Absolutely and without a doubt some of the most surprising accessories to be included with a recent Kamen Rider release. I wash shocked that Kamen Rider Evol actually came with all the parts necessary to recreate his Phase 1, 2, & 3 forms, but the fact that Tank Tank comes with a giant flipping pair of tank treads and an adapter to accommodate the figure is all the more impressive. This tank mode really didn't have a ton of screen time, appearing only on a handful of occasions and it was always a purely CGI affair. But I am massively impressed that Tamashii went the extra mile and included these parts with this release. I was satisfied that the Tank Tank form itself was seeing release at all, the tank mode parts are an added bonus. And while they are large they aren't particularly heavy so I don't feel like I might break Build while combining them or taking them apart. It's a really nice design with a few tight pegs to snap it all together. Just don't mishandle it and everything should work very well for any collector who happens to own this set. Basically any figure with a slender enough waist and flexible enough legs can use these parts if you wish. Obviously I can't help but see the similarities between this mode and the
RX-75-4 Guntank
from Mobile Suit Gundam, so of course the
RX-78-2 Gundam
has dropped in for a quick gallery cameo.
Once again, this accessory load out is marvelous. This release could not have turned out better. The inclusion of the tank parts was a bold move and one that has made me all the more glad I was able to secure this release.
Final Thoughts
I think I'll have to shout it from the rooftops a few more times, but I absolutely love
Kamen Rider Build
. The series, characters, and suit designs really enthralled me, and I feel like somewhere at Bandai & Tamashii Nations they must see that broadly across the collector spectrum. We just keep seeing more and more S.H. Figuarts from this series and it's accompanying films. While my order has been held up by the global pandemic, I will eventually get the Grease Perfect I ordered and Metal Build will be out in what seems like no time. This show has gotten so many releases in the last two years and I am here for all of it. There's even a slim chance that Cross-Z Evol & Prime Rogue could see release one day after they were displayed as prototypes last year. I've had a blast reviewing Build Figuarts the last couple years and I'd be really sad if that ended anywhere soon.
Kamen Rider Build Tank Tank Form
isn't just another solid addition to the line, it's a release that really goes above and beyond to give you more than you expect. Please Tamashii, keep this up.
