Hmmmmm, debating if I should make this first post a Revice Mega Review cause I was too lazy to do it the other 3 weeks. I'll probably just edit it later once I've actually got my thoughts collected.
Before I start reviewing the episode, let me just get out the way how much I love the Phase 2 Kong Deadman's design. While the Kong themeing present in phase 1 is a little lost, with phase 2 looking more like an orangutan or Mr. Burns in his gorilla chest vest, I like the newly incorporated Fourze-esque elements like the white skin jacket(?) and the Nadeshiko blue eyes. More importantly I love the subtle yet
explicit
Gentarou themeing behind phase 2, specifically the skin jacket(which could definitely be his trademark coat) and monkE hand horn thingies slicking back it's hair Gentarou style. It really makes me want to dissect Julio and Olteca's Deadman forms some more and see if I can spot any Tendou and Takeru themeing.
Speaking
of Fourze, I gotta say this episode absolutely had the soul of a Fourze one, specifically the Gemini Zodiarts two-parter. While it wasn't the central conflict of the episode it was downright manly tear-jerking to see Ikki realize how he let Ayaka down as a friend and do what he could to rectify it as well as fight so hard for someone he cares about. But that same trait is exactly the driving force behind the secondary conflict in this episode. As many other users have pointed out, an apparent theme of the series is that human traits aren't inherently "good" or "bad', but can be framed as such depending on the situation, and this episode made sure to put Ikki's devotion to the people he loves in both lights. As an older brother myself I hate to admit it, but Daiji was right on the mark when he said Ikki was using family as an excuse to not sign the contract. Working at the bath house full time and donning the driver when a Deadman shows up is convenient for Ikki cause he can stay within his comfort zone and be there "when they need him" when in reality he needs to be ready at any time, and every second he wastes getting from place to place could be another life lost. In typical middle child fashion, Daiji recognizes that his brother simply
wants
to fight for everyone he loves when in reality he
needs
to fight for everyone he can. It's giving massive Uncle Ben energies, and I gotta say I'm a fan.
I guess I'll stop here cause there's nothing else I could really bring up without parakeeting. I hope I did good for my first real KR episode review and didn't sound too much like a "guy who has only watched boss baby" guy.
