The special effects. I always loved that everything (or most these days) you see on screen is actually there, it's actually happening. Of course, there's tricks and turns to it but they also require physical effects.
As a kid, I was drawn to the Godzilla because I was really into dinosaurs and seeing a big one trash cities and fight other monsters was badass. I always looked through the TV magazines in order to find them when they were aired which only happened rarely.
I never cared much for Power Rangers when that became a thing as I found it too dumb, so I only had a soft spot for Godzilla until 3 years ago when I was introduced to Kamen Rider.
I initially enjoyed it for the same reason as Godzilla, the action was actually happening on screen, but I liked that it was happening in scale so they could use real locations instead of miniature cities. And while it also featured armored heroes it was a bit more serious and less reliant on tropes than Power Rangers/Sentai so that had me interested. And watching it made me really invested in what was going on so I kept going.
I think for me Toku is just something nostalgic that I can go back to every time without being bored and since they're making new shows every year too it never gets too stale. And there's so much more than just Rider as well, I found Ultraman later (which makes sense for me to like since it's rather similar to Godzilla in that it's also giants fighting) and even got a bit into Sentai.
So I first came to it for the suits and the action but stayed for the rest
