Another Ending is way more successful than True Ending at providing a sense of closure, for sure. Some of it is that they're trying to do different things (a one-off adventure with a bit of epilogue-y stuff VS a final, deeper exploration of the non-Emu characters), but some of it is that Another Ending has a broader canvas to work with. Like, Another Ending is over
three times as long
as True Ending. With that sort of difference in run time, it'd be insane if Another Ending
didn't
have more to say.
Additionally,
crucially
, the way Another Ending is one story split over three distinct chapters really, really helps it lock into stories that develop characters. Brave/Snipe doesn't really have to worry about anyone other than Brave or Snipe. Genm vs Lazer just has to focus on Genm and Lazer. True Ending has to give you a few moments with every major cast member
and
have an entire narrative arc for Kamen Rider Deadbeat Dad. I want to say Fish Sandwich mentioned this, that, for better or worse, a one-hour runtime precludes True Ending from actually being anything other than a rollicking adventure. Another Ending was able to dedicate an hour
to each pair of characters
, and it lead to a better sense of closure.
