Super Mega Mode!
Ahead of it's return to airwaves TokuNation is here to bring you another gallery from
Power Rangers Super Megaforce!
This time it's the shiny new hero of the team the
"Armored Might" Super Mega Silver Ranger!
Below are
80 images
of this figure, posts 1 & 2 contain 40 images each. But be sure that you also check out an excellent video review of this figure by my good buddy
baltmatrix!
Packaging
Nothing too out of the ordinary here. Silver Ranger features nearly identical packaging to previous releases in the Armored Might line as far as size and presentation are concerned. The big differences here being he has the newer Super Megaforce style packaging which has some cross sells for other new products. Like the Wave 4 ranger keys, Armored Might Super Mega Red Ranger, and the repacked MMPR White Ranger.
It should however be pointed out that the box for Silver Ranger specifically & disappointingly shows weapons/accessories that actually have paint applications compared to the statically colored final products.
Main Figure
There isn't too much to say about the main body of the figure.
Silver Ranger
shares the exact same basic body as nearly all the other Armored Might style rangers. A pretty big beefy roided out look for the most part. The differences here are some minor mold changes to the wrists and boot cuff to set this guy apart. Sadly these additions make him incompatible with a lot of previously release Armored Might figures, specifically their armor. If it requires anything being slid over his ankles or wrists then you can't use it with Silver Ranger.
The other big additions here on the new neck collar piece, which is itself an entirely separate piece that's pegged in, so it is fully removable. Which helps the figure interact with other armors. Why couldn't this have been done for the legs and arms as well? Rounding out the new additions is the new multi-mode head. By flipping the head forward/back you can alternate the figure between it's two modes of play. Standard Super Mega Silver Ranger and the (as of yet unnamed in the US) gold mode. The paint apps are pretty standard fair here too though the colors feel a bit off they get the job done.
Accessories
Where the figure grows on you is with the accessories. According to the package it contains
11 accessories.
That's completely misleading. The figure contains all the parts needed to make the "gold mode" armor, which account for 6 of these accessories. There are 2 spare hands. And then the Super Silver Spear in both spear and blaster modes plus an alternate part for the trident head.
As mentioned above these accessories save for the face and shoulders of the "gold mode" armor are completely unpainted. Everything is molded in the same generic gold plastic. Which kind of sucks when compared to what you see on the box, nicely painted stock images of the weapons with plenty of black to break up the monotony. It's as though no one bothered to take new stock photos, or edit these, or the production was too expensive and they nixed the paint. Either way it is a disappointment.
As a by product of the molds generic design there are peg holes on the waist which coincidentally accommodate the
Super Spear Blaster
so you can holster it like a sidearm. The
Super Silver Spear
itself is less flimsy than you'd at first think and it can be a little difficult to swap out the spear/trident heads. The armor however is pretty nice. Like previous Might figure Silver Ranger has a nice set of snap on armor. Though in this instance I think it's the best execution of the snapping on armor. The shoulders in particular lock on very nicely and don't give you the drooped shoulders look notorious with the first waves of Megaforce Armored Red & Blue.
The ranger helmets painted onto the armor are nice and crisp, just about right color wise as well. So overall the armor is executed quite nicely. My big qualm with it however is some inaccuracy. I know, shocker right? Despite going the distance for the most part the toy gets the hip armor all wrong and opts to only have the forward facing half, the back facing hip armor just isn't there, which is a bit annoying to me. And you actually need to physically remove the collar piece to even put the armor on, but that's more a nitpick than anything. The accessories themselves are all sculpted with a ton of detail. It's just a shame that they aren't painted to bring some of that detail out.
A final feature is the ability to create some sort of bow & arrow type mode out of the "gold mode" armor and silver spear. It's intended to be held from the inside but the peg for the Silver Rangers hand doesn't grip all that well and the accessory winds up being a bit too heavy for him to sustain holding without aid. It looks cool, but is rather pointless.
Final Thoughts
When the
Armored Might
line began 3 years ago I doubted it would continue. The beefy proportions and questionable quality control left a lot to be desired. But the line has grown, dropped the actual "Might" bit from it's name, and includes some more rangers now.
Super Mega Silver Ranger
appears to be another step in the right direction for this line too. At their price point, with the playability they have, it's no wonders kids like these toys. If you're looking for an inexpensive and playable figure then this one deserves your attention despite some of the flaws it has.
