For all it's faults in the beginning due to using more sentai footage the fights were more brutal, there was more punching and explosions and sparks flying everywhere etc. Once Rangers started to rely more and more on original footage all of the "edge" the first season had was gone. Every fight scene in the first season of MM looked and felt more brutal than pretty much everything that came after it.
I think you misinterpreted what I, the original poster of this topic, meant with "lost its edge". I did not mean the show lost its grittiness or brutality, but more a loss in overall quality. Seeing how English is my second language, I may have misused the expression, but
this definition
shows how I meant it.

I disagree. I used to think this way when I was an adolescent wearing constant Nostalgia Goggles. But, after becoming an old man of 28 years old, I looked at all seasons objectively and realized both Disney and old Saban have good seasons.
Disney may have had its flaws with their excessive censorship (turning bullets/shurikens into lasers for example) and their lack of promotion for their later seasons, but their seasons themselves range from being okay to outright good, with only PROO being poor.
