Yeah, I guess I'm thankful I didn't know it was an option?

It’s also fun to try and guess what they’re up to. I remember (or want to at least) that their language is actually Japanese with altered syllables or something, so people speaking Japanese could deceiver it, and us non-Japanese speakers could at least recognize recurring words and sentences to understand a topic or theme.
Also, I know I'm late but: Scolding the show which almost burned an entire church down for low production values is kinda hilarious to me. I know what you meant, but still.
I do think it's a smart choice, keeping the Grongi as uncommunicative monsters. They don't even have names to the characters in the show, just #1 and #4 and whatever. It's a great way to keep them sinister and dangerous.
And, I don't know, maybe I should clarify "low production values", since the physical effects work is really not bad at all. (They crashed a goddamn police car into a lobby in the first episode!) The stuff I'm less into on Kuuga, the stuff that seems cheap, it's more about how the computer effects are distractingly primitive (to 2019 eyes) or how unnecessarily long shots make everything seem stagey, or lack verisimilitude. And, yes, I just criticized the monster-fighting motorcycle superhero show for lacking verisimilitude, I don't know what's wrong with me, either.

You absolutely are not meant to watch the show knowing what they're saying. Not at first. Don't even consider it an option.
Regardless of their dialogue, I think the Grongi actors are doing a great job communicating what they need to: aggression, inter-group conflicts, authority, all of that stuff. I don't feel like I'm missing much, so far, by not knowing exactly what they're saying...

Strangely enough, I have no problem watching RAW's for whatever reason...
...but, y'know, I think the story's doing alright if you don't care that much about their plans, or don't get there until the heroes (Sakurako and Ichijou) do? It's cool to care or not care! The story feels like it plays out the same.

I inadvertently made the right choice, then! That's where my few right choices stem from!

As for the Grongi language, best way I can describe it is "a mutated form of the Japanese language with a hint of Pig Latin" for a lack of better words.

But man, for a set this looks really good. Would’ve never guessed it’s a fake church.
Yeah, it looks like a legit church. The fact that modern Rider shows can lean more on CG makes for less physical effects on weekly basis, I'd assume. Seeing something this old, where they can only use CG sparingly and it is
not
convincing, everything has to be a physical effect. It's like a lost art? Like, Godai has to beat the flames out on Ichijou in that church scene, and that dude is clearly on fire. There's
no way
Build was going to set Banjou on fire! It sometimes feels a little sloppy/dangerous (please don't make the Kuuga suit actor run on scaffolding in the dark, thank you), but there's a little thrill when you can go, "Oh, shit, that dude is
on fire
."

The argument over whether or not to sub the Grongi dialogue has always been kind of a hot button issue with fansubbing the show.
This has been super enlightening! I had no idea "should you understand the monsters on Kuuga" was, like,
contentious
. Thanks, everybody!
