From Kamen Rider OOO comes the
RideVendor
, the vending machine/motorcycle of OOO and Birth. Kind of. To everyone's great disappointment, this Tamashii Web Shop Exclusive does NOT transform into bike mode, and is simply a hunk of plastic in the shape of a vending machine. But that's not to say it isn't any fun, just not as much fun as it could have been.
The RideVendor is sculpted nicely, and painted beautifully. It's not perfect, the Candroids are a solid color, and lack the animal symbols they should have on them, but they are shiny metallic paint, and they look fine to me. Feature-wise, the vending machine does nothing. It has a slot that isn't very deep, and is too narrow for the included cell medals. There's clear plastic cover where the candroids should come out, that doesn't open, as far as I can tell. There are wheels sculpted and painted on the sides that don't turn, and the buttons are sculpted in, but cannot be pushed.
It is truly, a static plastic box and nothing else. It can stand there looking pretty, you can lay it on it's side and OOO can straddle it, trying to ride it as in the show, and you can lean it over on a figure to squish them (don't tip vending machines!), and that is the extent of it's display options.
While it looks nice, the vending machine is not the reason to buy this set. No, that reason is the accessories, the
Medal Set
part of the title. There are 30 Figuarts scale cell medals included, you have to remove them from their trees yourself, and maybe touch up the resulting black nubs with silver paint, but once they are free you have 30 tiny loose cell medals that you can lose!
The sculpting is surprisingly good on them. The back is particularly well executed, but the fronts are impressive as well. Each tree holds 10 cell medals, consisting of Taka, Gata, Kamakiri, Batta, Lion, Cheetah, Tiger, Elephant, Rhino and Gorilla. I forget which ones use the Japanese names for the animals, and which the English. Anyway, Uva's three medals, Gamel's three Medals, and Kazari's three medals. And one left over Ankh medal. From a sculpting standpoint, the only thing I could wish for here is that one of the trees had all three of Ankh's Medals, Mezool's Medals and the Dino medals, but ah well. The sculpting is cleaner on these loose medals than on the stacks that come with the Greeed figures.
I had some gold, clear red, clear yellow and clear green paint lying around, so I experimented with painting one tree of medals to see how they'd look as core medals, and frankly, I love it and am going to buy another one of these sets as soon as the opportunity presents itself. If I had clear blue paint I'd even turn a set into Mezools and the Dino core medals, incorrect faces be damned.
Anyway, the medals are great fun to play with, thanks to the 2 pairs of included OOO hands (Tora and Kamakiri coloring), which cleverly can hold the medals in two different ways. If you look back at my
Uva
gallery, you'll see I theorized that one of his hands was sculpted to hold a medal, and I was very gratified to see that I was right. I also thought one of Mezool's hands could do so as well, but that was not to be. Of course, you can also pile some of the medals in any of the open hands, so that other figures can hold some too.
All in all, despite its weaknesses I had a lot of fun with this set. It's disappointing the RideVendor doesn't convert to bike mode, but I hold out hope for a proper Figuarts bike for OOO and Birth someday, and I found the medals to be every bit as much fun as I'd hope they'd be. The quite low aftermarket price for this set makes it worth getting, if you want to have a lot of lose-able cell medals.
