Well unfortunately, I'm not on the same wavelength since I'm finding it just as repetitive as the competition arc. Sure, Gai is a smug A-hole, but him constantly losing makes it kind of boring and doesn't make him a big threat, since it's better to have an effective villain who's a major threat. I wish it were something like Ex-Aid with Cronus, where the heroes couldn't beat him at first with brute force, so they develop strategies to overcome him. And when Cronus gets beat by Muteki, he then tries to use strategy as well to try to beat the heroes. I mean people found it boring in the competition arc with Thouser beating Zero One every week.
