It's time for the 2nd of 3 galleries in honor of the one and only
Titanium Ranger!
Last week we brought you the
Super Megaforce 5" Titanium Ranger,
and this time we bring you the first truly Super figure of this legendary ranger. So today we're taking a look at the
Super Legends Titanium Ranger!
For a bit of back story on the line,
Super Legends
was a short lived yet popular line of 6" scale figures that was inserted into case assortments of
Power Rangers Jungle Fury & RPM
figures. Each case would have 1 or 2 of these figures inserted as "chase" exclusives. The line consisted of a mere 7 figures in this 6" scale along with a couple retrofire megazords and 3 8" figures. But the 6" line is where collectors fell in love.
Titanium Ranger,
along with the 2 variants of Green Samurai Ranger, were released right at tail end of the line and have become increasingly difficult to track down as they were initially short packed.
There had been plans for and even a fan poll to decide the character selection for at least 1 more wave of Super Legends That was cancelled when it was announced that RPM would be the final season of the show. Unfortunately this line ended very prematurely and was later replaced by the current smaller 5" line we have today.
Packaging
Super Legends
figures were also a bit unique in the packaging department. Despite being packed into RPM case assortments they came on their own unique card backs styled after vintage MMPR packaging. A bit odd considering only 3 of the figures are actually MMPR related. In any case it's a nice card back. Though again the
Lightspeed Rescue
logos on it make it look a bit off with the MMPR styling. The funny part is how Lightspeed Rescue is referenced as "the original series" on the label.
Main Figure
To start off I honestly think this
Titanium Ranger
figure is
THE
Titanium Ranger figure to own. Now the base body of Titanium is a unique sculpt for the most part compared to the other RPM figures and Super Legends. He appear to have the most unique sculpting of the Super Legends rangers and is by and far the most accurate toy ever released for the character. Having handled many of the vintage Titanium figures and the new Super Megaforce 5" one, the Super Legend is nearly perfect. It's definitely the best of the handful of the figures this character has ever gotten.
In sculpt and color this figure succeeds where it's predecessor's and it's one successor simply don't. Now I will say that it's articulation is both limited and dated. Though it has hips, knees, and rotating shins it doesn't have the ankles to utilize this upper movement. The same thing can be said of the arms. There's shoulder joints, elbows, and wrists but no bicep swivel to take advantage of the rest. The head can swivel left to right but has no upward/downward movement. It wouldn't hurt to have an ab crunch on this guy either. So he's definitely dated in design but is a great basic figure.
All in all it really captures the feel of the actual suit better, in my opinion, than any other figure of the character released previously. At least at a basic figure level. It doesn't have the wacko roided out proportions of the vintage figures, nor does it have the stunted dumpy proportions of the Super Megaforce 5" release. The nice thing about this figure is it fits in pretty well with S.H. Figuarts so Titanium can join your 6th rangers quite nicely. Coincidentally Super Legends Titanium also fits PERFECTLY with the vintage
Titanium Crawler zord/vehicle
as shown in the images below.
Accessories
The accessories are unfortunately a bit limited. Titanium Ranger includes just two of them, the
Titanium Laser
in both modes,
Gun & Axe.
While this is a good compromise to a fully transforming weapon, vintage Titanium Ranger figures such as the
Light & Sound single pack release
actually had a fully transformable version of the weapon that was mostly in scale as well. And though 2 separate weapons isn't what I'd prefer it's still far superior to the rather lackluster Super Megaforce 5" Figure which only includes the Laser in Axe mode. The sculpt is a bit soft on these weapons and sadly they are undersized but they get the job done.
Final Thoughts
This figure is basically all pros for me. My only complaint is the accessories being a bit lackluster. But that can be easily remedied by borrowing the Titanium Laser & Morpher from the vintage Lights & Sounds figure as I have. It really completes the Super Legend.
Super Legends Titanium Ranger
is pretty much the best Titanium Ranger to own. If you collect figures in a 6" scale this is the one for you. If 5" is more your speed then maybe you should go after the Super Megaforce release. Unfortunately either figure is hard to come by and commands a bit of a premium. But I can't give enough praise for the Super Legend. Definitely pick it up if you can.
