Given the situation ToysRus went from a public to a private owned company. Someone bought it by taking out loans they could not afford. Almost every company put through this situation inevitably goes out of business. Chapter 11 is just the first step towards obscurity.
As a former employee of TRU I say good riddance. It's a terrible company to work for. The screening of the newly hire is absolutely awful. One of the new seasonal employees showed up one day an hour late, plastered, and he was suppose to run the play event with the children. And he happened to be under age. Of course he was promptly fired, but HR kept her job, despite she had also hired a pot head who smokes on the job, and previously hired a felon who would later go on to murder his girlfriend.
That place has a constant revolving door as they lay off 99% of seasonal hires and over 60% of part-time workers each year. They will hire 8 to 9 managers who would eat up all the hours. My hours, and many of my co-workers as well, had our hours reduced to 4 hours a week once Christmas season was over. They've recently been demoting managers back to sales associates because they hired and promoted too many to management.
And the toy selection was just god awful. There were toys in there that had several coats of dust on them. Only Legos, and Skylanders ever moved. Everything else were shelf warmers. I only ever got people to buy Power Rangers merchandise because of my passion for Power Rangers. Had I not those would still be there too. Trust me, I started working there when Super Megaforce aired and we still had Samurai products on the shelves and in the back of the store. The only other thing that sold were tablets. Everything else did not sell well.
This is a horrible company. They pay terribly. Management sucks. No benefits (except 10% employee discount). And they don't do proper background checks. Knowing the kind of people they hire do you really feel safe taking your kids there? This company needs to die.
