Well, I heard from others that say Kiriya's complaint is about him not getting comeuppances... but it seems not to be the case in this episode where he embarassed himself. Good for him to get that as consequences... instead of people letting jerks get away because of them being funny (and wants to keep have laugh) and whitewash them. Akira's behavior here will be considered as strength in Japan, unfortunately considered as weakness/doormat for some of western audiences ._. So this episode shows that actually Kiriya isn't physically adept.. even more than Asumu (I thought it was other way, with him winning in physical competitions he challenged). Hibiki for this one is clearly not wanting to teach them, so the latter for ghosting them, but the others convinced him to, and Akira too.

Well... talking about Zanki's act of punching him before as performative
masculinity
? Sheesh... more like toxic masculinity to glorify violences for men. Hinaka seems to be finally back on track, far cry from how she's portrayed in ep. 33-34 as a manipulative b*tch. One of the suggestion Zanki gave to Todoroki was him teaching others to become Oni, this is about overcoming failures, but it's still a premature retirement due to his body condition and take up a job that is done after someone is not strong enough anymore... So this is the line for wacky antics, at least for you. If anything probably the part of suicidal Todoroki should be fed up to Kiriya (not like it'd influence him likely... probably even worse if it's done).

Wait, follow that thread (Hitomi slice of life)? Didn't you say that Hibiki doesn't feel like Kamen Rider show for lackluster action part, but captivating slice of life part (which'd fit better in actual drama show, like a streakhouse where the best menu is chicken). That's a part that get shafted away for the retool in 2nd half, to make the show like traditional Kamen Rider show. For Todoroki, the re-training seems so dangerous for him to do with him pushing so far in heavily injured condition. One part of training that people should get is not to force the trainee to push over their limits, or it'll only do harm to them, to be fair Zanki asked him to take it slow though. Asumu story's complaint is the common complaint for people in the 2nd half of Hibiki yeah, it's shoved away for more traditional Kamen Rider show with the focus on fighters (which ironically... you didn't talk about Hibiki for long despite this). Kiriya's impatience of thinking Oni being focused on mystical part only, he should've known about unskilled but strong type of fighter where they may be strong and dish out enough power, but their lack of skill would be a huge hindrance to them; e.g. being a Rider gives you the Rider armor's superhuman prowess.

Well yeah, probably theatre isn't Asumu's passion (he was trying to become band member previously), but if the passion is Oni... I'd say that I'm not thrilled over Asumu suddenly wanting to become an Oni (do something for others can be done not only as Oni). I'd like to keep the Hibiki trying to guide Asumu through life, as a combatant mentor, but teaching about
non-combat
. There was even a scene where someone asked him why he didnt take on disciples and he responded by says he wasn't opposed to it, and he would have a disciple just in his own way. To me it probably seems another part of retool of turning this into traditional Kamen Rider formula, where it should be about the combat part... Oni being a role model is instrumental to others yeah, unlike for example, Shuki, who is focused on killing the enemy so much that she veers into extremist territory, and those type of Oni got kicked out anyway. So far from previously, Kiriya would seem to turn into that type of Oni if continued and he passed his trainings. Oh right... they never do the Hitomi-Todoroki interaction when they're extended families...
