Now, you might think this episode's heavy focus on Juuru would force me to admit that Riku Sanjou really can't help himself, but then, Takamichi has been getting enough love from every writer on the show to make Daigo himself blush. After seven straight episodes, that finally seems to be coming to an end with this one, which certainly has the feel of a sort of parking spot for this whole plotline.
I was prepared for this to be at least a two-parter given that Takamichi gets a brand new changer here that P-Bandai would be very happy if you went and pre-ordered right now, but it turns out it was a one-and-done deal. Which is almost a shame, because as cool as Kivat is, the world could always use more transformation devices voiced by Yuuichi Nakamura.
This is maybe beside the point, though. The actual plot this is based around, I quite liked. It's fairly simple, but those couple of major beats it had worked fantastically. Juuru's knack for paying attention to people's feelings comes in handy in a really neat way, with him making the connection that Mabusheena and Takamichi actually have the exact same attitude towards one another, and from there taking action that ultimately results in the two of them patching things up, albeit a little indirectly. It's also interesting to note that the plot device of Juuru having dream chats with Oradin is back from Sanjou's previous pair of episodes introducing King Express. I have to wonder if another writer will actually use that idea too eventually. They're arguably a cheap way to move the plots forward, but they're fun scenes that contribute to an overall mystery they're building with Juuru's weird connection to the king. Oh, and speaking of King Express, the show once again gets props for not undermining Garza too much, with Juuru combining simply to
hold him back
while the other guys handle the giant monster.
Anyway, Takamichi and Mabusheena's reconciliation more than anything seems to mark this one as a clear break in Kiramai Silver's subplot, which is more than welcome at this point. I've appreciated the sense of direction he's given the series, but I could do with some nice plots strictly about the main five again, too. And it definitely looks like we're getting that next week. I have a very strong feeling the next episode is going to be ~good~. Not that I have much to base that on, but I mean, the preview looked super fun!
