So, for the plot issues between the movie and the show, I guess I didn't think too hard about them? The movie is very much its own thing (in so many ways!), so comparing the two didn't make much sense to me. Also, I watched the movie way before I watched the show's ending, and at that point I just wasn't thinking too much about what Inoue came up with to end the story.
It's... the lore exists to support the direction of a writer's story, and we're talking about two different writers. The movie has a version of the lore that fits the story the movie is trying to tell, while the TV series has a version of the lore that fits the story the TV series is trying to tell. Comparing the two... I don't have big thoughts about it, and certainly not a sense of which is 'right' or 'better'. It's very Apples and Oranges, you know?
For the poor coping mechanisms, it's really only Amane we're talking about here. The rest of the cast become assholes, but mostly as a joke. They all sign back up to fight monsters from eternity without too much arm-twisting. Amane's the one who takes longer to come around, and that either works for you or it doesn't.
It works for me! I don't think the movie is excusing or rewarding her behavior, but it
is
trying to give it context. She's a troubled young girl who never got to properly grieve for someone who was like a father to her, and she doesn't know where to put that pain and anger. As long as she's kept outside of the story, she's going to suffer. It's a movie that heavily features the idea that there are invisible casualties to these stories of heroism. Part of that is that the damages these people sustain, it's breaking them in ways that make healing almost impossible. Amane is suffering.
But, like, she's also hurting the people around her, and the movie
definitely
acknowledges that. Haruka and Kotaro (is this show Keitaro or Kotaro? I've already forgotten) are clearly not feeling super great about how Amane is growing up, and Kenzaki is right there with them.
The thing is, and this is where Your Mileage May Vary, I think the movie is trying to create nuance beyond Amane Is A Brat. I think they're giving us the whole cast as assholes so that we treat Amane as just another asshole, and then spends the rest of the story drilling into why she's that way, and how she's not the only one responsible for her attitude. She's acting out, but that acting out
comes from somewhere
. If you don't think she expresses enough contrition for that at the end of the story, okay, but I don't think she needs to be chided or punished for how she behaved. The story is pretty critical of her actions, but it's more concerned with how she got to this point. If you think she's given too much sympathy by the story, then we have a different appreciation for what Amane's story is here.
Which is fine!

Like Isaka, SAYOKOOOOO (this one..), Trial B, Kaimioka, etc.
I mean, sure, some are jokes, but they never once called Tiger Queen or Scissors Undead by any name I can remember, and those were major, multi-episode characters. This show had some problems with naming characters inside of the text!
