"Unleash the Beast!"
With
Hasbro's
acquisition of the Power Rangers brand, we've gotten a full revitalization of both the TV show and the toy line. From the lowest price point entries up to the largest scale figures, the entire line has changed. While the majority of the brand is heavily focused on the currently airing
Beast Morphers,
we are still getting some product from throughout the franchise. One way is with collector style figures in the Lightning Collection line, another is through the mini figure line of
Micro Morphers!
Consisting of rangers, villains, and even some megazords, this line offers a fun alternative for fans of all ages.
Today we're doing a mini-review of this line by cracking open
1 blind bag
of rangers and
1 blind box
Megazord. Check it out below!
Packaging
Individual rangers come blind packed 2 figures per bag in foil style bags. As with any blind pack figure you could maybe feel around a bit to suss out what you're getting, though there was only 1 actual bag left when I bought the one for this gallery. Series 1 has
16 possible figures
in it, though there's no given ratio for how common or uncommon any of them are. Each blind bag comes with a checklist of the 16 figures in the series. Figure's come packed in bright neon green bags.
The Megazord sets come packed in some interesting 6-sided boxes. A bit overdone for what they are, the edges are perforated to break open easily though there's also a pull tab on the top to tear it open. The Megazord pieces come packed in the same green bags as the rangers, with several more bags inside of it containing more rangers and Megazord accessories. A checklist is included showing the
4 possible variations of Megazord
you can get in series one as well as the
12 rangers
you can get, which are totally different from what's available in the individual ranger blind bags.
Ranger Blind Bag Figures
Each Blind Bag contains
2 rangers
each, in random mixes. As noted the included checklist shows us 16 possible figures we can get. In my case I happened to get a
Morph-X Beast Morphers Red Ranger
and the original evil witch herself,
Rita Repulsa!
Having talked things over with some other collectors I can confirm the random pairings so not every Morph-X Red will come with Rita or vice versa.
The Red Ranger is posed swinging his Morph-X Saber with a swiping effect molded to it from his leg. The entire figure is cast in a really bright neon green translucent plastic, with some glitter for added variety. Evoking the activation of Morph-X powers. The details on this little guy are actually sculpted in pretty well, though it can be hard to discern what's what at this scale sometimes. Rita on the other hands is a fairly well painted approximation. Though missing some paint details, at this scale and price point it's a great likeness. There's a bit of a sweeping effect coming off the tail of her dress that makes it appear as though she's floating or flying.
This line of figures is about 1" scale so they're quite tiny. As always be careful with anything at this scale. Also, as a nice little surprise, each figure has a small peg hole on one side that's intended for use with the Micro Morpher Megazord's in the line. They also happen to be the same size as a Tamashii Stage adapter allowing for some alternate display options like what you can see in my gallery below.
Megazord Blind Box
Each Megazord box actually not only contains the Megazord components, but two more random blind bags of rangers! There are 12 possible figures to get with a Megazord as well. In this case I happened to get
Smash Beast Bot,
and
Slicertron!
Smash is posed with a fist (appropriately) smashing down to the ground, even with a molded effect around the fist. Once again, some minor paint apps my not be present like the eyes. But at 1" scale, this is totally acceptable. I mean they even managed to mold Smash's zord face into his back and it looks very appropriate given the figure's scale. Slicertron is a pretty elaborate figure itself with far more sculpted in detail than any of the others I got this go around. He also features a clear saw blade for his right arm with another swipe effect coming up under it from the leg. This figure may be the best one to convey the action it's sculpted as doing.
When it comes to the Megzords, Series 1 feature's 4 possibilities. The
Beast-X Megazord
which comes in standard blue and alternate yellow colors, as well as the
Racer Zord Battle Mode
which comes in standard red and alternate gray. In this case I got the standard blue Beast-X. Each Megazord comes nesting doll style with all the components and the included rangers stacked within. Each Megazord has a top half, bottom half, and back panel as separate pieces. The back panel has one giant sticker pre-applied to get the upper body's details right. The bottom portion has a black sticker placed to "separate" the Megzord's legs, and the upper body has a sticker pre-applied for the face. Two
label sheets
are included to fill out most of the other pertinent details for the front of the Megazord. The two halves of the robot just slot together, fairly securely.
When the whole thing is put together stickers and all, it looks fairly convincing at it's roughly
5" scale.
You can see a comparison with the 6" Red Ranger below. The Megazord has opening leg and chest cavities, which can each accommodate either some figures or other parts from the line. Each of these panels also has two foot pegs on it for rangers and villains to stand on giving you some additional display options. Finally the Megazord includes
6 Morph-X blades.
These parts pegs into the hands, shoulders, and head of the Megazord. While the Megazord isn't poseable this adds a little something extra for another display option.
Final Thoughts
At
$2.99
for a 2-pack of rangers and
$6.99
for a Megazord with 2 rangers, this line is well worth it for anyone looking to collect a diverse line of mini-figures. I'd honestly have been interested in buying a full case of each to see what the breakdown of of packs would work out to be. I'm interested to see how often duplicates pop up. As is though, these are a fun little line!
