I'm not complaining or anything but I find the transition really jarring.
I'm a big fan of cartoons but I remember the day when a trickle of blood down the chin was high gore, now you're lucky if a ripped shirt connotes damage. And nowadays you're lucky to even get a sword in a cartoon, let alone it being used for anything other than to cut food or something. And although Power Rangers is by no means gory and it is all fantasy violence, the villains die at the end of every episode, whether they're being 'destroyed' by name. Both the heroes and villains express pain and fear of death. And a lot of Power Rangers or even shows like Dragon Knight have characters and whole stories around tragic backstories, which includes death. Not to mention that they are always armed with bladed weapons or guns and have full contact all the time. I'm just interested how they are able to get away with it, when you see things like that Spider-Man cartoon where he wasn't even allowed to punch people because of censors.

In some cases it can't.
Even though the filming takes place in New Zealand now, the show is not permitted to air there due to the violent content. |

because then it would cut into the mandatory 10-15 percent footage of whats being adapted. to reduce the violence anymore and that would require massive reshoots which would break contract with toei.
also remember lord zedd did deeply offend alot of parents |

Maybe the only reason no one complained about the space witch and her flying monkey was the sheer Wizard of Oz-ness 14 years before we had a proper Wizard of Oz reference appear from Toei. |

I had forgotten about that. As a kid Zedd was a bit scary with the whole no skin look. My dad wanted me to stop watching when he came on because he looked "like a demon". Never really stopped me. The show is violent by kid standards these days but most of the hardest hits some in costume and blood or injuries aren't shown in any extreme way. It's always "destroy them" or "put and end to them" or something instead of "kill them". |

Thompson opened his pie hole. |

Pretty sure they get away with it cause it's fantasy violence.Y'know,a world where people bleed sparks and grass spontaneously explodes.

It think there are people in this world that are just so out of touch with reality that they are against anything they don't like and think it's unwholesome. Many adults grow up and forget that kids create things in their head that is far more graphic and spectacular, regardless of what TV shows they were allowed to watch. I know a lot of parents freak out of pretty much anything that comes from Japan because they have no idea what the heck it is. I mean, people protested Pokemon. Those same people hate half the stuff produced in America too and not because it's poorly written garbage like most kids shows are but because they don't know it is. They fear it and therefore think it will brainwash their kids. Long before TV kids were playing with sticks and play fighting in the fields or using their hands as guns. It doesn't make anyone violent but we all like things to blame because boycotts and bans are easy. Fixing the problems of people who have abusive parents or are just wrong in the head is difficult and can't be fixed with regulations.
