Episode 4 down, good stuff. I like the Five Venoms, the Toad guy sounds kinda like Kintaros.
Rio is pretty cool, definitely dig his monster form, would buy the hell out of a SHF of that. I'll have to watch 5 and 6 tomorrow. |

I'm so into this show now.Pretty good batch of episodes,6 was probably my least favorite though.I like that we're getting the Rangers' backstories.I'm really interested with what's going on with Retsu's brother.
Introducing the Five Venom-ken is pretty cool.I wouldn't expect a monster team to show up this early.Kinda bummed that they're beating them one at a time rather than altogether in one climactic battle. Master Shafu eyes really freaked me out.He needs to keep them closed. Also,is it just me or are they using REALLY old stock footage?I remember seeing a shot of one of the buildings that exploded in an ep of MMPR. This show also makes me really want some Figuarts of these guys. |

As soon as I turn on episode 4, I remember watching the hell out of this when the episode was new. Having the Five Venom Fists show up and lay the smack down on the Gekirangers, having Rio show up and establishing the rivalry between him and Jan, and then the five on one mecha battle. So much good stuff. I also enjoyed how the Five Venom Fists have their own role call.
Then we move into the Kademu episode and a spotlight on Ran. I still remember going "Holy shit!" when they turned the slab over and there was a perfect outline of Kademu, which was why Ran last to him. Also remember doing a small fist pump to myself back in the day when I called the bag on Kademu's head hiding something important. And of course, we get the start of the Madoku plot. Now for Retsu's spotlight. Moriya was always my favorite of the Five Venoms, just because of how he fought. Standing on the walls and making you come to him. And then he has the whole lizard detach tail and regrow it taken to extremes. Of course, Retsu being Retsu fights Moriya on his own terms and lays a spectacular smackdown on him. To one of Gekiranger's many catchy tunes no less. We also learn that Retsu was a painter before joing SCRTC, and he joined because of his brother. Surely this brother won't come up again . Finally, "We made it~!" . |

My thoughts on 4-9 from a few weeks ago (I won't bother posting next week)
Quote:
Gekiranger 4-9. The poison themed monsters arc. It's pretty much the same as Jungle Fury episodes 4-7. At least the good parts are the same. Honestly, the Disney seasons were really good about copying the GOOD parts instead of...well, Samurai. I think once the 3 aux zords get introduced, Gekiranger will start taking a somewhat different path since Jungle Fury is much shorter.
PS Still missing RJ and still finding Jan obnoxious. |

The problem I'm having with this show right now is that I'm so into it I keep watching, meaning that I'm finding it harder and harder to remember which older episodes we're talking about.
But yeah, the Five Venoms. Honestly, I think the first two were pretty forgettable (aside from the centipede dude's awesome design). The other three were a lot better developed, but we aren't there yet. Aside from these guys, what I remember most about these episodes is the introduction of Retsu's brother. He knew Rio, he's apparently dead, and Retsu described him as the "lone wolf" of Juken? I think that last one is a pretty dead giveaway of where this storyline is going (hopefully without no further appearances from the French dude). Also, Mele is still hot. |

These were the episodes that hooked me, back in the day I always remember people saying "Why doesn't Rita send more than one monster?"
Than we have Rio. I'll send a monster!.....huh....that didn't work......ok....all you footsoldiers fight! you! strongest one! you take the Rangers on!....huh....that didn't work either..... OK I'm sending FIVE Monsters! And as anyone who has seen Gekiranger knows, after the five Venoms arc, Rio has no reason to try all that hard to kill the Gekirangers, he's got his own thing going for the remainder of the show, thats another thing I loved about Gekiranger, it was really two complete shows between the Gekirangers & Rin-Jyuken. no she's not. She is the HOTTEST!

Episode 4 thoughts: Awesome episode. The poison five are a great bunch. I really like Braco's design, the others not so much. I like the fact that they're establishing Rio and co. as a real threat this early on. I dig the advert/info bits at the end as well. I lol'd at the cat mode for the training bot.
Episode 5: So Ran's pretty cool, i liked the twist on why she lost the speed game, very clever. Jan's anxiety seemed a bit random though. It seemed like it would be the focus but it got pushed back, and then got quickly cured. Hopefully it'll carry on for a few more episodes. I mean it's not like he actually did any training... or is it just that he's gaining faith in his team mates abilities more and its lifting that way? Episode 6: Nope, Jan is back to normal... Retsu was a painter, huh would never have guessed. Also his 'late' brother was like a lone wolf... I guess its more obvious foreshadowing as I know that there's a Wolf gekijyuken user, so I assume he's going to be Retsu's brother then? Overall a really good bunch of episodes. The pacing at the moment is spot on, no episode has dragged or felt too rushed. Roll on next weeks batch =) Also, is it just me or does a lot of it seem badly dubbed to anyone else? It's like they didn't have a Mic on set and just got the actors to record everything again later. I dunno, could just be that the sound and video are slightly off... |

One thing I like about this show, from the episodes I've seen, starting with Episode 4, they don't actually "make" the monsters.
