Unfortunately the king returned with a big stinky flop.
This movie has been a financial and critical under-performer. It did pathetic at the Japanese box office and fans don't gravitate towards the terrible animation, bland characters and exceedingly unremarkable story. I've yet to watch it myself but I'm tempted not to. |

It was okay. The plot was kind of unremarkable, though the concept was interesting. The animation was pretty bad during human sequences, but during the fights it was good. I just can't get behind this recent trend of CGI that wants to imitate traditional anime aesthetics, everything looks so stiff and lifeless. Godzilla looked great though, which kind of makes up for it. The end was kind of like "oh....okay." All in all, it wasn't a waste of time, but it was more of a curiosity than a memorable addition to the Godzilla canon.

It might be my child-like nature when it comes to entertainment, but I LOVED it. I enjoy any fresh take on Big G. I love seeing his destructive nature. The original, Shin, and this one do a great job of that.
It's far from perfect, as I found the beginning rather dull. But the action bits and the climax more than make up for it. I look forward to what the other two films can bring to the table.

Godzilla: Planet of the Monsters is a pretty decent movie. I did like the story and I thought the animation was pretty good. The movie remind me of other anime such as Blue Gender and Attack on Titan. However the biggest issue with the movie for me was the human characters.
I felt no affection towards any of the characters and I found most of them to be boring. Overall, it was not a bad movie and I would suggest to check it out if you are a Godzilla fan. I hope the sequels will be better. I give the movie a 6/10.

The movie was very underwhelming, especially coming after Shin Godzilla.

Just have one word to describe it. Boring. Probably my least favorite thing Ive ever seen that Gen Urobuchi has worked on. The pacing was terribly slow, the characters uninteresting and unremarkable and Godzilla or any monsters for that matter werent featured a whole lot. Which for a movie called Planet of Monsters is pretty lame. I still like the initial idea a whole lot just the execution left me completely cold.

Yeah, having watched it, it was just plain dull. Dull characters, dull visuals, dull plot, terrible rendition of Godzilla, just all around a lame film.

I would recommended to watch Shin Godzilla instead if they want a good modern Godzilla movie. If people want a post-apocalyptic anime with giant monsters, you can check out Blue Gender instead.
