Kamen Rider Taisen
I was the biggest advocator for this movie before it came out. I mean, it's got a ton of Riders and characters from the franchise in it. How could it not be amazing? The best thing I can say about this movie is the visuals, Designs and the action. OH MY GOD. Rider action has never looked this insane and good. Watching Fifteen Decade Arms plow through motherfuckers and seeing Rider kicks and swords clash just feels satisfying. Everybody reflected their fighting style very well.Fifteen had a pretty cool design, with his much more open visor revealing more of the arm's helmet faces was really cool along with that beautiful mix of white accents and black. Decade Arms looked really sharp too. Ichigo Arms, I'm not such a fan of, but I'll take it over the boring alternate forms like strawberry and pine. The CGI is a lot better then most Rider movies. Visually, this movie is stunning, especially in the Faiz flashback with Kaixa's suit lines being a beautiful bright yellow. The subtle details of the more recent Heisei Riders show up on camera this time around. The Showa Rider suits actually hold up really well onscreen and didn't look like crap like I expected them to. Secondly, I have to applaud a lot of this movie's characters. Takumi, Hongo, Muramase, Tsukasa, Shotaro, Narutaki, Kusaka, Kouta, Jin and Haruto all in one movie? That shit rivals Forever Red in terms of Star Power. I don't like the fact that they nurfed Tsukasa's personality, I know that Matrixbeast likes it because he's not a dick, but that's what made him a unique character. This movie just made him a generic snarky good guy. In this entire movie, he only has two witty one liners, that does not fit my Tsukasa quota. But I like the fact that he went out and recruited the Heisei Riders. But I do like Takumi, Jin and Haruto's exchanges with each other. That sequence towards the beginning where Takumi meets Jin and gets to learn from him was a pretty great. I wish Haruto said more, considering he's in a similar position to Takumi, but considering his actor was at the end of his contract, it's understandable. All the Gaim cast are in character. Narutaki did his trolling thing, Kusaka did his dickish thing, Shotaro did his detective sthick, it was fine. I liked the kid characters too. Shu didn't annoy me, in fact I felt kinda sympathetic for him towards the beginning of the movie. (Also, is it just me or was the fact that he died and came back with powers made me think he was an Orphnoch for like half the movie?) Fifteen's character was fine, but the father son relationship sort of strengthened the conflict a little more to add to the theme of the movie. Now for the bad. When the movie started out, the plot was very simple, get this McGuffin kid for an obvious plan. But then Hongo has to come in and be a dick and have the Showa Riders try to kill the Heisei Riders because they "opened a portal to the world of the dead" or some bullshit and then have ZX infiltrate Badan and pull a Decade where the Riders die but not really they were in Helheim and summoned by Kouta but oh wait the actual conflict was real and Gaim tried to save a flower whop de fucking do. I think there's something about a interesting messed up family relationship in there but honestly the "Showa vs Heisei" part of the movie fucked up the plot. Why the hell do these Riders fight each other in every one of these god damn movies? Why can't we have a normal crossover and beat the shit out of the old badguys? And Gaim protecting a flower, really? didn't Tsukasa say in the Wizard crossover that they fought for human rights or something like that the hell? I get the idea, but maybe if Narutaki showed up a bit earlier and was about to get kicked and Rider 1 admired Gaim saving someone who was considered scum. I liked Shu's subplot, Shotaro's shenanigans along with Takumi's mini arc. But dear jesus is this plot convoluted. And ghost Kusaka really didn't do anything... he mocked Takumi and then disappeared. It would have been cool if the World machine or whatever caused the world to flip and now he was alive and became Kaixa and fought Wizard and X. But the biggest atrocity of all... Blade's helmet looked like shit. No seriously, it's got some random yellow shit allow over the mask, TOEI suit department, please clean up Blade next time you use him. Final Verdict...... I like this movie. While it's got a lot of major and minor plotholes, the action's never been better, most of the characters are great, the central father-son conflict is interesting and the movie pays tribute to each show in thier own respective way. Anyone who calls this "shallow toku fapping" or the like just because it's got a bunch of Rider suits with no actors behind (despite the fact this is the movie with the most Riders reprising their roles) them obviously does not understand the respect this movie puts towards the Rider legacy, both new and old. |

Sorry for the double post but I feel like my previous one was kinda lengthy already, so I'll split it up for easier reading.
Time to watch another Rider crossover thing with Tsukasa in it, the Riders becoming the gimmick and the plot revolving around a kid with powers critical to the villain's plan of escape. Wait..... I'm gonna be comparing this special to Kamen Rider Taisen a little bit so be prepared. Wizard Episodes 52 and 53 This was like the weirdest fusion of a Wizard two-parter, A Decade two parter and a Rider crossover movie. Haruto trying to save the gate of the week? Check. Crazy alternate world where the main character stumbles upon the strongest bad guy almost instantly after he arrives and a team up with that World's Rider in the final fight of the arc? Check. Shit load of Riders? Check. The action was great. What I liked about it compared to Kamen Rider Taisen was that the fights had a shit ton of forms and attacks going on. You've got final forms, Final form rides, form switching, Den-liners and Dragredders everywhere, it was fucking insane for a TV show. In KRT, it felt restrained out of the Heisei Riders trying to look within the remote power levels of the Showa Riders. Not to say that KRT's action wasn't fucking insane either, just this special felt unrestrained. Gaim showing up was awesome. Him kicking ass in his normal form is pretty great. I felt like the plot was trying to be bigger then it was. It does that whole "Hey guys, we're fighting you, oh wait not really we were just waiting for the opportunity to help you out" thing Decade is famous for. And what was up with that whole Cross of Fire thing? Was it like one of those symbolic things where he was referencing it not as the literal birthplace but as the center of the monsters? I liked AU Haruto, and Koyomi, just because they sort of tied the themes of the special, Wizard and Kamen Rider all together. Amadam, the villain, was flat out terrible. He dressed like Rider villains, great... Tuskasa was in it. Yay! He didn't feel as restrained as KRT, mainly because he had less screen time and he actually met his quota of snarky comments this time. I recommend watching this two parter. It puts a different spin on Wizard and just Rider in general, plus, who doesn't like more Tsukasa? Even if you're not a fan of Wizard, you can still enjoy this. Damn, that Blade mask was that dirty before KRT? |

Yeah, it's the Kamen Rider Taisen episode and it's really good. I always get a new perspective on Rider stuff from their show and it delivered.

Yeah, Ryuki is one of those endings where it might not sit well with you as you experience it the first time but eventually you realize it was a good ending for ths show.

Black RX Episode 18: Gedorian is just plain cruel, evil and nasty for the hyper one of the Crisis Empire. I enjoyed Kotaro and Joe making plans against the Flying Squirrel monster and even tricking him that led to his defeat. I also enjoyed that Bio Rider was used to help cure the poison instead of just helping him in battle. It makes me wonder if Bio Rider could technically cure every disease on the planet if Kotaro saw the disease. I really love the battle music in this series it really gets me pumped up for the fights, and I love the flip he does into the RX kick too. The next episode looks very intriguing.
Black RX Episode 19: Well Crisis ups their terrorism game here. Though I don't understand how a second sun wouldn't just empower Black RX but that's a question for another time. This shows one of my favorite parts of Kotaro is that he doesn't give in to the evil groups because he knows that they are pieces of shit that can't be trusted. Dear God that Magnetic Force Gun is fucking super powerful to destroy the artificial sun and that it could be blasted on Earth to hit something like that. I enjoy Robo Rider it definitely feels like a tougher and more powerful form I hope it gets more of a finishing attack though. Black RX Episode 20: The most banana-centric episode of Kamen Rider ever! Even more banana-centric than an episode of Gaim focused on Baron. Seriously the only part was missing was the enemy being a giant banana instead of a banana-wielding ogre. I am glad Bio Rider made him split. Love the Bio Blade and his finisher as Bio Rider it's so shiny and awesome. I also love that Kotaro can do split second transformations and de-transformations, I was wondering how he survived the frozen banana to the heart. Joe the Haze also helps make things easier for Kotaro like getting Shigeru's dad out of there so Kotaro can explore without worrying about him. More with Joe next episode so that sounds interesting.

It's been a while already, BUT I finished Kuuga!
What can I say? It was a really cool show and honestly... if I would've had the chance to watch it as a child on TV, this would've been one of my favs, I guess. First of all: Wow. Early Heisei Rider has a lot of blood. Ryuki already had some bloody scenes, but Kuuga? Phew. Not that it was a negative thing though. I thought it helped convey the seriousness of the situation. What I really like is how the show tells a serious, dark story without being to heavy atmosphere-wise (it was really refreshing, considering how depressed I was watching Gaim the last weeks). The cast is loveable, but I wish Sakurako and Jean would've had some more screentime, those two were awesome (also d'awww for the whole Disneyland thing at the end! I usually don't ship characters, but Jean and Hikari were just so cute). And Godai was such a great protagonist. Kudos to Odagiri Joe for portraying him so well, despite hating the genre back then. The visuals were awesome, considering the low budget. The designs look really cool and Tominaga Kenji does a great job at suit-acting. The forms were really interesting, too. It's really cool to have forms that differ so much in strength and use. You don't see that very often in Rider these days (the only thing that might be somewhat similiar is... OOO I guess?). What really bugs me though is that the show didn't explain the actual goal of the Grongi. What's the Final Gegeru and what's the point of it? I also still feel like there's more to know about the whole Daguva-stuff, but the show barely told us anything about it. Overall, Kuuga was fun to watch, I really liked it Btw., started Agito as well and watched the first 4 episodes. Looking good so far. Shouichi is such an adorable dork. Also yay for Teen-Naomi xD Last edited by Suzu; 09-20-2014 at 07:55 PM.. |
