Jetman episodes 4-6, discuss!

My thoughts on this stretch of episodes:

-Kaori got some good character development.

-Ryu is shaping up to be a great Red. If this keeps up, he might even pass the Chief in my book.

-I'm definitely seeing why Gai is such a beloved character. He a free spirit that does as he wishes, but when push comes to shove, he's got your back.

-Road Dimension. Holy crap Road Dimension. I know people probably get hurt and or killed when giant monster and robot showdown in downtown Tokyo, but this was different. It flipped a highway road deck with several cars driving on it. With people actually shown driving those cards.

-House Dimension was also rather impressive. An apartment building(Japan calls then Mansions? I could have sworn I heard that word in engrish) that comes to life and tries to eat you. Really enjoying these Dimension Beasts since they are such Paranoia Fuel.

-The Vyram commanders so off their capabilities in battle.

-Full roll call.

-The Hawken and Jet Icarus are rather cool. I couldn't help but noticed the cockpit set and layout looking rather familiar .

So yeah. I downloaded the first six episodes a trial to see if I'd like Jetman, and I definitely do. Really enjoying this series so far.

Yeah, that really threw me when I first saw it. I think the individual jet cockpits were reused in Zyuranger, too. I can't help but feel less impressed with the Zyuranger versions now, knowing they're just quick set redecos.

The House Dimension at first cracked me up...but then I was impressed on how it turned out. I am so happy now I have Hawk and Condor on pre-order...though chances are I'll have Condor punching him out or something. I REALLY like the Vyram, that psychotic kid is awesome, and I know Grey hasn't done much, but I know he just has a can of whoop ass...for some reason with him drinking it reminded me of D-arts Vile...

Warning: incoming rant.

I consider 5 to be the worst episode of the show. It's not without moments, I mean it has the first Gai vs Grey, first role call, and the firebird attack. That's all cool. However, I HATE Kaori and this episode is why. Okay, hate is a bit strong because she does grow into an acceptable character, but in these early episodes she is quite possibly the worst female ranger ever. In hindsight, that probably was the point of the character, but that doesn't change the fact that's she is useless in the entire series. This episode is when Kaori has hit rock bottom in her uselessness and unlikableness (Not sure those are real words, but I'm going with it).

Episode 5:

I said good stuff is in this episode. I really like Gai's and Raita's poses in the role call. Gai looks like he's posing for the cover of People.


This makes up for the flying brick mode.


Can Grey be anymore epic?



Episode 6:

I really enjoy this episode (even if there's a huge flaw). The first thing that's awesome is the monster. House Dimension is just ridiculous and unique. There's plenty of monsters in this show that's equally original.

Yeah, I kinda hated Kaori's "If I don't like it I won't bother" mentality. Such a fallacy of a mindset. But that was episode 4.

Oh, forgot the one other highlight. Kaori's finace getting dumpped at the alter and getting kneed in the groin. That bastard had it coming.

I originally wrote it as episodes 4 and 5 being the source of my hate, but I honestly could not remember episode 4. After looking back at it I remember why: I am so incredibly sick of the arranged marriage trope in Sentai (and in general, really). The reason I forgot was because I've seen this episode at least a hundred times. The only difference is Kaori is unlikable. I kind wanted her to get married to the jerk and leave the show.

The strange part is that there's another arranged marriage episode in Jetman and it's probably my favorite of the trope, but we'll get to that episode much sooner than you would think.

Thought I'd join in but the series only finished downloading last night, so I've been playing catch up today. Just finished watching 1-6 so i'll just go for a quick summary of everything so far.

First off, it feels a lot older than what it is, i don't know why it does though, can't place my finger on it =p

There's not a lot in the way of supporting cast, heck unless you'r names Gai, Ryu or for the past three episodes Kaori, you may as well have been an extra.

I really like Jet Icarus design, It's one of the few that I liked when doing some past Sentai research and checking out various mecha, so seeing it in action is nice. I can't wait till we get to Jet Garuda and Hyper Icarus.

So far though I'm enjoying it. Gai and Ryu are cool,I hope the others actually get some screen time to grow and develop, and I want the Red Hawk S.H.F even more now. So its doing something right =)
