Well, considering all of the hints they've been dropping Sentai: Western themed mecha formation, a sixth Ranger whose monster form resembles a cowboy, a sixth Ranger who is a ninja cowboy with a cheeseburger cellphone morpher (god, there's a combination of words I never though I'd say), I'd put 50 bucks on the next motif being Cowboys, possibly something in the vain of Gokaiger.
As for other ideas: Insects (Kamen Rider has been riding that for over 40 years, so why not Sentai?) An all female team Another car themed Sentai Sea creatures Monsters (yokai or things like vampires, ghosts, etc.) Zodiac (hey, if Kyoryuger can get away with 11, amiright?) I like the sea creatures and monsters motifs. Also the cowboy theme could be really interesting, but I don't think they will go that route for the 40th sentai. Now the 41st? I could totally see it. But then again, this is Toei....anything could happen. |

I don't think we are going to get another car sentai just yet and I still don't think Toei will use insects as a main theme for sentai when KR kicks senate's butt in all categories (I prefer sentai, but KR has higher ratings and toy sales).

Not many ideas on the sea creatures, but I have seen that suggestion a lot, so it'd be nice to see, and the monster sentai is an idea I've been playing around with for about 2 years. Though, what are your thoughts on a team comprised of women? Sure, it'd probably be a turn off to most boys, but as long as it stays action packed and only has ONE of them being girly, it could possibly work. Not to mention, it'd probably attract more girls to start watching. I mean, it is the 21st century, and women have been shown to hold their own in action situations nowadays. But, only time will tell. |

I would wanna see a monster sentai since Kiva. Just to make it up for its lack of story.

i think an all-female sentai could easily work, but from a marketing and toy sales standpoint, I don't think Toei is willing to gamble on their female audience buying up all the toys. The target audience is boys and those boys want to emulate the boys they are seeing on tv. I think that is a stupid approach to anything (especially the boy's club that is toku), but that is how it is and until there is a higher demand for the female merch (what little they give us) we probably won't see a team like this. I think it would be interesting to see the usual tropes used with an all-female team though and a permanent female red would be nice.

I'm against this. Both as a girl and a fan of Super Sentai. Honestly, I like the idea that the teams in Super Sentai consist of both male and female characters. Yes, there was Sun Vulcan, but given that I don't like Sun Vulcan for it's team structure (among other reasons, of course), I really don't want an only-one-gender-sentai again. A female red, eh, I would have been more enthusiastic about that idea when I started watching, but I guess that would be okay. Maybe. But I already didn't like it that much when Kaoru took over in Shinkenger. (which might be more since it was so late in the show, but still)
Yes, the toku fandom is mostly a boys club, but we don't need to temprorarily turn Sentai into a girls club just to change that. And there's actually already plenty of female Super Sentai fans out there. I'm friends with 4 other girls who like Super Sentai (and I tend to find quite a lot of female fans in our extermely small German toku fanbase) and I even got a female friend from university to watch Super Sentai so apparently, the show isn't that unappealing to females. ...are people in a "feminism" phase since we started that whole "female riders" discussion? ... Actually, now that I think about it... we already have an all-female Sentai show. It's called Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon. Last edited by Suzu; 04-20-2015 at 12:26 AM.. |

^I am in Germany too!
I believe a female red could be cool, but I understand the significance of the color/role in sentai. It's won't happen. This is just one of those "what if" situations. Just like people that want an insect themed sentai; as long as KR is on the air, it won't happen. Even when KR took a break, it didn't happen. The closest we had was the bug-eyed look of Akaranger in Goranger. I still want to see a true space themed season. Is space popular in Japan? I guess we will see with Star Trek coming out this year. How did GotG do in the east? |

You are? Wow, I didn't know that!
Hm, space shouldn't be unpopular, but I don't know if it's as big in Japan as it is here. Guardians of the Galaxy seemed to have been received pretty well. According to Japanese Wikipedia, it brought in 15% more money than The Winter Soldier and 22% more than Thor: The Dark World. Considering that we had a space-themed Kamen Rider and occasional use of space-motifs in Sentai (Gokaiger, for example), this might work out pretty well. |
