Marathoned Zyuranger episodes 40-50 today and overall I enjoyed this season a lot. All the characters I love a lot, they got pretty good focus episodes and it was a great story and good ending. Overall this was a really fun season I think one of my top 5 Sentais out of all the ones I've watched. Kyoryuger, GaoRanger, Battle Fever J, ZyuRanger, and Gokaiger are the top 5 right now when I finish more I don't know how much Zyu and Gokai will stay there though. Geki is my favorite Red right now and that I come out of a Sentai with my favorite being Red is something different which is kind of awesome. Geki and Dan are my favorites but I love all 6 of them. A Very fun experience ZyuRanger is totally awesome.

I've just completed episode 30 of Kakuranger, and this show is blowing my mind.
Spoilers! After a really fun beginning where I was more interested in the wacky, Beetlejuice-esque Yokai than I was any of the Kakurangers, I found myself questioning whether or not this show had much to offer beyond being a fun/funny diversion. While I was certainly enjoying the show, I wondered if there was going to be any kind of overarching plot -- or if the whole series was going to be the random, unconnected adventures of a group of vagabond ninjas who travel through Japan while living in their sentient food truck. One episode after I registered my creeping dissatisfaction with that format, in waltzes Young Prince Junior and turns the whole show around. You guys, he is utterly fabulous. I've not seen a sentai villain so gloriously over the top since Underground Emperor Zeba in Maskman. He comes on the scene, and the main story of Kakuranger springs to life. Then the Flower Kunoichi Gang (aka the Hanarangers) make their debut-- and this evil, all-female sentai team elevates the story from a series that's fun-with-potential to sublime pulp masterwork. The Hanarangers' first big focus episode, I want to say it's Ep. 20, involves the lady ninjas summoning a literal rocket, which they ride, while firing actual machine guns at an unarmed 10 year old. And with that episode, my love for Kakuranger was completely sealed. But there was still something nagging at the back of my mind, something I didn't like. It was the lack of character development for our heroes. Up to this point, the villains were way cooler and more defined than the heroes. Which isn't a huge problem because the villains were cool enough to keep me loving the show. And then what happens immediately after that? The Kakurangers are defeated by Young Prince Junior and forced to split up to find the Shinobi Scrolls. And so far there have been 5 episodes in a row jam-packed with nothing but awesome, hardcore, tragic characterization for every. single. one. of our characters. The best of these episodes is the two-parter where Jiraiya kills the man who raised him to be a ninja after discovering the man actually killed his father! WTF, sentai, how did I not know something this awesome could happen in one of your series!? My mind was utterly blown. That brings us to today, and I'm on episode 30. Awesome shit is happening with Tsuruhime's dad. Can't wait how things progress! TL;DR this show is the tits. I love it more than I've loved any sentai show at this point in its run. I still have about 23 episodes left, and I already dread seeing this show end!!! People, since I'm loving it so much, please tell me what sentai series, in the vein of Kakuranger, I should maybe check out next. |

The first 21 episodes of Maskman (lost interest, but would revisit)
The first 16 episodes of Jetman (lost interest, but would revisit) The first 20 episodes of Magiranger (did not like at all, not interested in revisiting) The first 14 episodes of Abaranger (lost interest, but would revisit) The first 10 episodes of Gekiranger (hated Jan, but would revisit... with hesitation) And I've seen all of Shinkenger, Goseiger, Gokaiger, Go-Buster, Kyoryuger, ToQger, and Ninninger (so far). As you can see, Kakuranger is the first "old school" sentai I've tried where I've gotten past the midway point. I'm on episode 33 and see no signs of stopping. Try Liveman for another older season or Megaranger. Both are fully subbed. Stay away from Sun Vulcan...it will just piss you off and bore you to death, lol. But the Vul Sticks might be the most dynamic sentai sidearm in the series' history.

Well, I've watched Gokaiger and Kyoryuger, and made it almost 40 episodes into Zyuranger (but lost interest for some reason, though I will go back and finish it) just finished ToQger. Had my doubts, but this season was pretty enjoyable! Makes me sad about the possibility of it being skipped for a PR series.
Now I'm going to start Ninninger. I watched the first episode, and actually enjoyed it! As much as I like ToQger, I'd really like to see a Sentai with more action, so I'm looking forward to Ninninger! |

I am watching magiranger and it is pretty good. I just got to when magishine debuts and he is way more of a playful teacher than Solaris Knight was. Also Nae and Mare are hot.

Liveman is a pretty good season and Megaranger starts somewhat weak but gets pretty good over the course of the show. Sun Vulcan... I'm currently watching Sun Vulcan and still nothing in it caught my interest for more than like one or two minutes. |

Yeah, the early 80s sentai were not quite easy to get into for me as well.
Personally starting with Bioman things started to take shape.

I enjoyed Bioman. I thought the Red ranger was a good leader, but there wasn't a ton of focus on him and every other ranger had some development (although not a ton). Pretty good season I thought. Not my top five, but still pretty good.
