Ever wonder about the many different designs for the many different Mechas of Super Sentai? Discuss them here.
The idea for this is to consider the mindset of those who dream these things up, the inspiration or what the design of the Mecha seems to echo or favor, how design receives final approval, and all of those unused ideas and rejected conceptual drawings (should such knowledge even be known among the fandom). Commentary and/or questioning of a design as well as noting the similarity between Mecha designs is encouraged. Using any Mechas name from Power Rangers is acceptable, especially if paired with the Super Sentai Original Example: Ohranger Robo (Zeo Megazord). Any additional questions, please ask. Do try to keep things civil. Last edited by TokuKnight89; 06-30-2015 at 01:40 PM.. |

In my opinion, there was a general shift in mecha design during Zyuranger and later on during Gaoranger. Since Zyuranger, more streamlined designs were emphasised, along with curved edges. Previous mecha were boxy. Since Gaoranger, Sentai mecha have adopted a wider leg stance, and the combining philosophy has evolved to focus more strongly on a larger number of auxiliary mecha.
I feel that with Go-onger, the design philosophy changed again, this time focusing more on collectible gimmicks.

I wouldn't say streamlined is the word to describe the post-Jetman mecha. Sure, they were less boxy, but they were much more detailed, at least imo. After Ohranger they started to realize that they could sell more toys by including more random things in the shows, so that's why we started getting all of the auxiliary mecha and gimmicky things. For a while, I thought we were going to get a new auxiliary mecha in every episode of Ninninger lol.
My favorite mecha designs are easily Dragon Ceasar, Dairen'oh, and Ohranger Robo. The first mecha from Megaranger, forgot it's name, is pretty cool too, I like the simplicity.
