Episode 3
Wataru learns the harsh reality that his mother may not have been entirely honest in her descriptions of his father. The crosswalk scene is amusing in the way Wataru, Shizuka and the old guy are struggling against the wind, but then when the two little kids come to cross the street they act like the wind isn't blowing at all. We're introduced to Nago and his button obsession. And he's a badass (for now). Wataru sees him and instantly idolizes him as someone to try to look up to and to be like. Megumi attacks the Fangire of the Week, so she can get her ass kicked and Kiva can show up and rescue her. I admire her tenacity, but she really should train more, she's not a particularly effective fighter. I love Kiva's transformation, both the visual effect, and how he becomes a confident and capable fighter. Be though he has the upper hand fighting the fangire, it escapes into the next episode. And Nago sees Kiva, and swears to kill him. dun dun duuuuunnn! My favorite thing about this episode is that I know what it's leading to in episode 4. XD Episode 4 Continues the story Wataru learning about the less pleasant aspects of his father's personality; Wataru decides to try to make it up to those most affected by Otoya's recklessness. The two old guys realize that their lives aren't that bad, and that they're also responsible for their misfortunes in previous times. They forgive Otoya, but oh no! the lawyer chick does not, and surprise! She's been the FOTW all along. When Wataru finds out Otoya wronged the angire chick, he is unable to defeat her in Kiva form, and we get Kiva's first new form, Garulu, my favorite of the 3 Arms Monsters forms. I like the the wolf motif, the animalistic aggression he takes on, I like that the weapon is a saber (I love swords), and I love the shade of blue used. Garulu is definitely the best of the three Arms Monsters (but also the most featured, so maybe that's not a fair comparison). The actor is great, and I look forward to seeing more of him in the 1986 story lines. Dammit, I need Figaurts of Kiva and his Arms Monster forms. And of the Arms Monsters' true forms. I like the way Megumi interacts with Wataru in these two episodes, and her jealousy that Wataru seeks Nago's help and not hers. Random scene of FOTW attacking some random guy. People complain that Otoya only plays one song, however, that never bothered me. I find it to be a very beautiful piece. Also, I was a violinist in high school, and I can tell it would be a difficult piece to learn, so props to whoever performed it for the show. |

I might be able to join in on this. I just finished one of my shows so I have free time.
However to join on the spirit feel free to watch my Kamen Rider Kiva music video (Warning contains Spoilers): (Insert Blatant Shameless Self Promotion Here.)

I started to marathon through Kiva yesterday, the eleventh.
I’m only nine episodes in but I’m really enjoying it so far. I feel like I’m experiencing the series for the first time. Since I’m watching more than the standard “one-to-two episodes” per day, I’ll probably be finished sooner than most here. I’m thinking of saving the film for Halloween, though. I keep having a “moment” whenever we see Wataru in the bathtub. Seto Kouji! >/ / /<

I appreciate that it's actually the actor playing the violin in this segment, rather than the stunt performer. Jiro! I like how cool and badass he is. Oh, and hey, he's a monster, cool. Honestly, the only reason I have any interest in watching Hibiki someday is for this actor. Jiro and Otoya fight, both give as good as they get. Nago is stupid about Kiva, letting Megumi get assaulted and Kidnapped by the Sheep Fangire. Spider Fangire! Another favorite character, he's so waky and almost out of place, I love it. And he starts out so serious, calling back to the first episode, then pulling out the hand puppets. Finally the reveal that Jiro is a blue wolfman creature (Figuarts when?), what a great design. Also Basshaa Form, which lets Kiva combat the speed of the Sheep Fangire with enhanced senses. Fishy Kiva is my least favorite of Kivas forms, I think I even prefer DoGaBaKi more. Episode 7 Knowing how the show ends, it's kinda funny to see how much Megumi seems to hate Nago. I like seeing the difference in the way Garulu Form fights differently from Kiva form. Nago's blind obsession with Kiva distracts him long enough so the Fangire could escape. Maybe Jiro isn't as great as he originally seemed, since it apepars he feeds on humans, just like Fangires do. |

I think it's cool to see people building an interest in Kiva. Sorry I'm not participating, just don't really feel like rewatching an entire series right now. But I'm all for the Kiva love of course.

Kenji Matsuda is reason enough to watch anything. But really, there are so many reasons to watch Hibiki on top of that.

I don't know what possessed me (Kintaros?), but I picked this back up just before Halloween, and I'm a few episodes away from completing the series. For whatever reason, I'm enjoying it more now. It clearly seems to want to play out as a tragedy. I was baffled by Emperor Kiva's sudden transformation into a flying monster form until I watched the Kiva movie this weekend. (Now, I'm baffled due to Strange Hair Taiga, out-of-nowhere Riders, and the impossibility of fitting the movie into series continuity.) So they'd already cast the actor for Taiga, but because they hadn't actually worked him into the show, they had the actor show up as a completely different character with unlikely hair?
"Go to hell" was amazing, though. I should finish the show in the next few days. (I've been pairing it with the suddenly-reworked Go-Busters, which was showing a lot of promise before the Gavan two-parter.) |
