Hibiki Volume 26.
It starts with the person in the white garb looking to the person in the black garb while the cameraman has a seizure. Things really start off as Asumu hangs out with Hibiki, drumming around and relaxing as Hibiki chills, singing some. There, Hibiki invites Asumu to a taiko drum festival, which is nice. Things start getting a little hectic as the plot jumps around a lot, so, in no particular order: *Todoroki slays another giant crab Makamou *Ibuki and Kasumi are hanging out *Asumu finds out that Akira is briefly helping out at Tachibana's *Another set of summer monsters rear their head *The blonde haired kid shows up at Tachibana's Todoroki suspects the summer monsters may be around, so he calls in for Hibiki's help. This leads to the best part of the episode. ANSWERS. Asumu doesn't know what the summer time demons are, so Midori provides some clarity. The person clad in black creates the giant Makamou, while the person in white creates the summer time demons, which are notably different because they're only human sized, but they have the ability to multiply themselves. Good to know~ I still don't know about their science sticks, but some clarity is always a good thing. So Hibiki moves out to aid Todoroki in slaying them, finding out their cat demons. In the meantime, Todoroki sees a couple walking down the street that triggers...Something in his head, as he immediately hops off his bike and gives chase, but he strangely can't catch them. Every time they turn a corner, they instantly teleport somewhere else, which is strange. Even when they descend down a hill, they manage to disappear as soon as Ibuki loses sight of them. Not even the disc animals help, as they turned up melted and the couple gone...Weird. This was a pretty solid episode, finally giving us a little insight in what the people in black and white do (The biggest problem was that they'd always summon a demon immediately after the Oni killed another one, so it seemed like they were possibly resurrecting them, which made things really confusing). The bits with Asumu were nice, as he's finally in a situation where life doesn't completely hate him. Also, we find out that anyone could look like a serial killer when turning a corner while holding a knife upside down. I sure could go for some watermelon...

Hibiki Volume 27.
So, this one kind of picks up right from where the last one left off. So after Hibiki dispatches 2 of the demon cats, they regroup. In the meantime, Zanki encounters the Douji and Hime, and we get to see action from him. Unfortunately, he doesn't transform, but it's still cool. He's holding his own, but the figure in white (Now referred to as a puppet. Confusion level x2) appears once more and freezes him up, and with a few motions of the hand, manages to send Zanki flying into a river. At the same time, Ibuki runs into his mystery pair of demons, but they mimic the white puppet's motions, causing him to break down in exhaustion. Crazy... After a wave of disc animals, one returns, but damaged. While Hibiki repairs it, he has a conversation with Zanki about Asumu being his disciple. Hibiki seems to be two ways about it. It sounds like he's not against it, but he also wants to help teach Asumu in his own way, so we'll see where that goes. Disc animal repaired, they find a hut where the demon cats were multiplying, and Hibiki and Todoroki eventually take them all out in a pretty cool looking scene (Uh, hey, Todoroki, I think the monster's back would be a better place to drum against, rather than it's rear...) Meanwhile, back at the ranch, we learn about our mystery kid, now named Tsutomu. He was a former Oni disciple (Who Asumu assumed was to Hibiki. Once otherwise, he perked up. Someone is a little defensive~), but had to quit (He says his parents didn't like it, but we don't know if they forced him out of it). He has a brief chat with Asumu about the possibility of him becoming a disciple to Hibiki and an Oni. He tells him that he can't do anything halfheartedly due to the risks involved. It makes sense, and it's advice Asumu needs considering that if Hibiki isn't involved, he kind of just...Drifts. While he's gone Hitomi helps out at Tachibana's. Cute. And brought another watermelon... They enjoy a fireworks show, and Hibiki tells Asumu that they'll have to keep training. Episode was a'ight. I really liked that they're bringing up the prospect of Asumu becoming Hibiki's pupil more often now (If only I didn't know how that's going to end), and I'm really interested in seeing where that goes~ TAMAYA!

Wizard episode 9.
This one came close to freaking me out a little. I'm not used to modern day Rider being as wanton in its civilian-murderin' ways, let alone like this, so...yeah. That was some Grongi level shit. Guess it makes sense how it went down, though. I remain unused to it. Pretty good episode. Still enjoying Wizard a bunch, though I no longer can claim to care much for Shunpei. Still not as bad as Onari. Don't really like the Dragon Styles oh well. |

Hibiki Volume 28.
This episode gives more answers about the people in black and white, and I'm so glad...We learn that the cast referring to them as "Puppets" is correct, as it seems that not only are there dozens of them, but that they're led by some man and woman, the people actually behind the experiments recently. Finally good to learn a bit more. With their next experiment done, they decide to use it on one of the puppets, rather than demons. Interesting idea... Meanwhile, Hibiki and Ibuki are fighting a demon, it's nothing really special, but I bring it up because, this demon was strong enough to break one of Hibiki's Ongekibou while in his Kurenai form. That's surprisingly tough. We then move to see the enhanced puppet create a family of spider demons, and the enhancement spreads to it's created demons. These spiders were quite a match for our newest Oni, Eiki (Another drum user), and he was beaten quickly. Ibuki and Todoroki are dispatched to recover Eiki and defeat the demons, but their strength shines through once more, with the Douji and Hime overwhelming the two, just wailing on them as our Oni have a hard time even fighting back. Damn. On the human side of things, Asumu's luck plummets once more. He appears with a mysterious bruise on his face. We later learn that the shoplifter returned once again, beating the everloving hell out of him. Goddammit. The shoplifter tripped over Asumu, and he held a grudge this long? Asumu didn't actively try to stop him, he just ran into him on accident...Christ. Well, Asumu got his ass kicked, but doesn't seem to bring it up with anyone. So Hibiki decides to take him on a mountain trip on his day off. Hibiki isn't nosing about, and is just teaching him stuff like setting up a tent and the like. While he's gone, Hitomi is called in to Tachibana's (Which leads to how we learn about where the bruise came from), and Hitomi begins to cry over the events that happened. Poor thing, since she's finally realizing how shit Asumu's life is... Back with Hibiki and Asumu, things are going...Decently (Asumu trying to say that Hibiki only brought him on their little adventure because of recent events), but Hibiki writes him off. While hiking up a steep hill (Very steep, seeing as they need a rope), Asumu slips, sliding down the rough cliff face as he desperately tries to grab the rope. Man... This episode was rather nice as it finally gives a little answer into our mystery villains (Since our protagonists seemed to be aware of them the whole time, but the audience was left scratching their heads in confusion). Midori has shown she has spare Ongekibou, so I don't think Hibiki is particularly impaired by the one demon breaking his, but it is interesting to see that the monsters are strong enough to begin with to break them. Their strength is also highlighted by the ass kicking our new Oni, Eiki, as well as Todoroki and Ibuki got. The fighting in this episode was rather nice, too (Though the shots where the lighting was dead center in the camera was an...Odd call to make). I'm just glad to get a little clarity. I'm interested to learn more about this mysterious man and woman. It's also just good to have a proper face to associate with our villains. For Asumu's portion, god...If this kid ever catches a break, I have to always keep in mind that life will shit on him within 2 episodes. The shoplifter from, like, episode 10 returns just to beat him up, he's keeping his feelings bottled up inside him (Well, that's nothing new, but still...), and now his camp trip with Hibiki leads to him sliding down a cliff? Man, this kid...I'm interested to see where it will go, since he tends to open up to Hibiki, but even now, his time with Hibiki is going down south. Hitomi is also slowly breaking as she realizes that Asumu just isn't getting any better with how his life is turning. 1 episode remains. Quote:
Even some of Wizard's biggest fans aren't too keen on Shunpei

It might be because Wizard was among the first few shows I watched, but Shunpei never annoyed me as much as for example the SIU from Drive or Ghost’s Onari.
I didn't like him but I didn’t really hate him either. |

I just didn't like Wizard's cast aside from Beast. Everyone aside from Shunpei were just wet blankets, barely reacting to anything.
One could say it made Haruto "Cool," but it just made him dull to me since, unless it was a major event, his expression and reaction never really changed from a smarmy mug.

I've heard that Eiki, along with another unseen Oni, was going to become a regular cast member if the show had continued in its planned direction. I think that was on a wiki, though, so I have no idea how accurate it is.

Yeah. When I first started watching, I had skimmed some of the changes, and Eiki becoming a main character was among the list of changed ideas.

Hibiki Volume 29.
So Asumu isn't injured too badly from his sliding down a cliff and Hibiki aids him, thankfully. Maybe one day Asumu will have a good day... We quickly cut between that and Todoroki and Ibuki fighting the Douji and Hime. Then soon put their efforts together to just defeating one (Since the 1 on 1 tactic was getting their asses kicked), and eventually succeed, though the other escapes. Back with Asumu and Hibiki, Asumu is being himself and sulking as it soon begins to rain on them, preventing them from cooking dinner. Blaming himself, Hibiki tells him that the rain will pass, and it's not always his fault for what goes wrong in his life. He tells him that he shouldn't blame himself, and to try to rise up. It's a nice heart to heart. The rain passes, and they continue their talk, telling him that pain in life is inevitable, but through training, he can learn to overcome it. I like it~ [Also, Hibiki carves himself a new Ongekibou out of a thick branch] The next day comes and eventually Todoroki and Ibuki stumble upon the Douji and the Makamou, and quickly engage. Eiki, the Oni from last episode, also reappears, healed up, and helps fight. While the Makamou manages to fight them off and run, the 3 manage to at least kill the Douji with minimal effort. The Makamou seems to head in the worst direction, towards Asumu and Hibiki, and Asumu runs right smack dab into it. Poor kid. Hibiki makes the save and pushes him out of the way, getting bit down on instead, but he goes Kurenai and, using his drum (Surprisingly, since he could normally just smack a monster with the Ongekibou and an energy drum would appear), dispatches it. Back at the ranch, Asumu's mom had went to Tachibana's, and basically acknowledges that Asumu has absolutely no luck in life at all. Poor kid, even his mom knows...Hitomi also shows up. Mhmm. Asumu, Hibiki, Todoroki, Ibuki, Zanki, Akira, and Eiki all then enter, too, and Asumu tells his mother about how fun the camping trip was, despite the numerous set backs, and Hibiki notes that Asumu is finally taking a step forward. I really enjoyed this episode. Asumu and Hibiki having their talk that gets to Asumu was great, as his tendency to keep everything inward kind of pushes others out too much. Him finding something to smile about despite falling down a cliff, losing his cell phone, getting rained on, and being attacked by a giant spider demon is also nice, as he's learning to move past the negative events in life, and trying not to be defined by what goes bad in his life. The fighting here was pretty fun. Seeing Ibuki and Todoroki working together was nice as they finally had opponents who could just run a train over them otherwise. Eiki is pretty cool, fun and energetic, though apparently after the staff swap he is never heard from again. Darn. Well...Speaking of...I've hit episode 30. After 29 solid episodes, I've hit the infamous point. And I don't know how to progress from here...
