I'm usually over on the KR section of this forum, but am going to try and branch out and watch a season of Sentai. I would like to start strong of course so what are some good ones? To give a little bit of perspective, my top 3 KR seasons are W, Fourze, and 555 (I'm a heathen, I know). I've been considering Kyoryuger because it has the same main writer as W, even though I have heard complaints about Daigo. I'm also considering Ninninger, Jetman, and Shinkenger; but I would love to hear any and all suggestions for what s good and what to avoid!
Dairanger Carranger Gingaman GoGoV Timeranger Hurricanger Abaranger Gokaiger Have it you crazy one you.

Also recommend Carranger-One of the funniest/best shows I've ever seen period; combines comedy and badassness to make an incredible Sentai show that is loads of fun. Megaranger-An excellent Sentai dealing with the integration of technology in everyday lives and a coming of age story of teenagers fighting evil and dealing with High School. Balances fun, comedy and drama very well with a great cast, and considering you like Fourze this may be for you. Gingaman-An epic fairy tale-like story of warriors from a legendary forest who fight space pirates in order to protect the Earth and become legends of their own. The world and mythos it builds alongside the great story is a must watch. Abaranger-An emotional story about two worlds colliding and fighting to protect the world around them, and the ones they love. Another excellent story with some really, really good episodes and themes. Dekaranger- A cop series dealing with cops obviously dealing with criminals and aliens. A very episodic Sentai but has excellent one-shots and fun characters, and excellent fight choreography. Boukenger- Now this is going to be one you won't see too much, but it's one of the more underrated series today; Has a lot of good character development, one-shots and ideas of adventure that make it such a unique series. Avoid: Magiranger- The most annoying, boring, poorly written Sentai I've ever seen.

Oooh, oooh! Can I make a list?
Gekiranger - Has a strong cast and places a lot of emphasis on developing the villain to prevent him from being some generic guy throwing monsters around on a weekly basis. Energetic, but doesn't shy away from some powerful drama. Dairanger - One of the few Sentai with a rather interesting series of stories that last throughout the series. Being the second series with a 6th, it gives some pretty interesting stories to meld them in without marginalizing the other rangers. Kakuranger - Ninjas are cool! It's super fun and energetic during the first half, but after a rather heavy series of episodes, it takes a much more serious tone, but doesn't feel out of place. Yeah, those are the 3 that I can recommend, myself. A lot of Sentai are really good, but I feel those 3 series go above and beyond. If I can name a few to avoid, I'd have to say Sun Vulcan and Shinkenger (Rather dull and incredibly slow beginnings, both taking over 20 episodes to really get interesting) Kyoryuger (It can be enjoyable, but the hero worship Daigo/KyoryuRed gets is a bit overbearing. It basically depends on your tolerance)

For other recommendations, you can do Gokaiger, Liveman, or Jetman, but hold on with jetman and gokaiger until you've seen at least 1 or 2 sentai. But overall, It all depends on with concept you like. |

If you don't mind the fact that it's still airing, I would actually recommend Zyuohger. Otherwise, maybe Gekiranger.

My thoughts on some of my favorite seasons:
Gokaiger (2011, space pirates theme) - it's similar to Kamen Rider Decade in that they use the powers of past series as a main gimmick. It's not similar to Decade in that it has great characters and is one of the most consistently entertaining seasons. Gekiranger (2007, animal martial arts theme) - the red ranger in Gekiranger is a jungle man whose personality can get a little annoying, but beyond that it's one of the best seasons. Awesome combat both in suits and in mechs, and a GREAT villain group. The Gekirangers' enemies grow stronger as the Gekirangers do, which is awesome. Shinkenger (2009, samurai theme) - main cast is appealing, and the individual episodes are usually very good, but the story drags in the middle third of the show. I love the suit combat in Shinkenger, but the mecha combat isn't as good. The final twist in Shinkenger's plot is well-known / pretty cool. Jetman (1991, birds and air force theme) - very popular early 90s show for a lot of reasons. The main characters (both heroes and villains) are awesome. The action in suits is sort of generic by modern standards, but the mecha stuff is great and the individual episodes are really good. Very strong Sentai series for characters and story. Dairanger (1993, Chinese martial arts theme) - I *love* the suit designs and mecha designs in Dairanger, and the action is really well-choreographed. The main five Dairangers and their mentor Master Kaku are awesome, but the sixth ranger is a shitbag who gets too much story shine (IMHO, of course). The story is mostly good, and gets bonkers at the end. Dekaranger (2004, space police theme) - I really like Dekaranger's gimmicks and setup (influenced by police procedurals, lots of 2-part episodes) and the characters are mostly likeable. The plot is a little disjointed and isn't a slow build like the best Sentai stories, though. Zyuohger (2016, animals and cubes theme) - I don't know where the plot's going (of course) but I think very highly of the current series. Really likeable cast, great action in suits, okay action in mechs, and cool story ideas. I would at least recommend you watch the first episode and decide if you want to keep going with the current weekly Sentai joint. Maybe avoid these: Goseiger (2010, angels and cards theme) - I really dislike the Goseiger cast and was constantly annoyed watching them in the crossover movies with Shinkenger and Gokaiger. Couldn't watch more than three episodes of the show. Cool helmet designs, though. Ninninger (2015, ninjas theme) - I've only seen the first few episodes (didn't love it, didn't hate it), but it's probably the most disliked recent season of Super Sentai. It has some fans, but the most common reaction to its finale earlier this year was "thank goodness it's over." Ohranger (1995, modern military and ancient civilization theme) - I didn't like the first few episodes of this show, and I've heard that it had to undergo major rewrites partway through the series that really mess with the show's tone. I also think the suits and mecha designs look silly, personally.

I want to defend Goseiger, since there are some good things (GoseiRed's rivalry against Dereputa, GoseiKnight, Brajira, etc), but there's just so much to slog through (The rest of the Warstar are rather boring, the Yuumajuu tribe arc is godawful, and the Mantrintis don't get enough time to properly shine), so it's understandable why most don't recommend it.

Monsoon, ohranger is one my favorite sentai. You can't blame the show to be bad just because of the incidents back in day.

It's not the show's fault that the incidents occurred, but it all falls onto the writers on how to handle things. And if they handled it poorly, it shows. The show doesn't magically become better knowing the history of what went down.
