I find critics to be problematic in some cases, I also find the fans to be just as problematic. I find that movies usually fall somewhere just about smack dab in the middle and they're usually okay to solidly good.
You can't fully trust either side of the argument, you must take it all in, see it for yourself and decide then and only then. If the movie's truly good, then it's good. If it's not, then it's truly not. Critics were right about Deadpool and everyone expected them to hate it, yet they pretty much seemed to either really like it or in some cases love it. Critics were wrong about Haywire, they loved it, but nearly ALL of the audience couldn't stand it. (I was one of them.) Fans love Marvel movies (for the most part) and critics usually agree with them, but I thought Doctor Strange fell flat in some places and that it was a thinly veiled retread of Iron Man. (Is it a terrible film? No, but I'm not sure the fans and critics should've given it such a high score.) Fans liked most of the X-Men reboots whereas I found them confusing due to all the time manipulation and critics also found some of it to be more style over substance. You're rarely ever going to please everyone all of the time, except in a very few cases such as Citizen Kane, but we're probably never going to see another one like that come along, it more or less broke the mold. Fans are going to want to defend this tooth and nail, critics will probably try their best to rip it apart, but if the film is solid, it'll do well and it won't matter what others think, only what YOU think. That's really all that should be important at the end of the day. |

I think the trick is to find critics who give you valuable insight, whether it be because you have similar tastes or because you know that the two couldn't be further apart if you tried.

As most people said, It's best to judge the movie yourself, or check the audience rating for RT when it comes out.
I remember when Ghostbusters 2016 happened and how critics liked it, only because of the "Strong Female Character" and how "progressive" it is, but the audience hated it because it didn't respect the franchise and just seen as a cheap cash in. In the end, word of mouth prevails. |

Too bad we won't able to beat Beauty and the Beast this weekend. I did wish that they pick a better release date. I wonder if August would have work better or not.

Saw the movie right after work with a co worker the other day.
1.) When did 2 hours + become the norm for movies nowadays? 2.) Didn't see the need to switch out Billy and Zach. I know it was was a bit of some criticism back in the day. For having the black guy be the Black Ranger. When I first saw Power Rangers I never took offense to it. (I took offense to them gender swapping the Yellow Ranger though) Over all I enjoyed the movie. They actually painted the picture of how it would be in real life. From their suits, the putties they faught, to their zords. My only complaints are that it was too long (but if you're into it, you won't really notice) and I didn't like what they did with Goldar. But anyone who is a fan of the original series should be pleased with this film. |
